Name: Equilibrium
Alias: Paintdrip, Paint
Species: Lumen
Gender: Female
Age: 2 1/2
Pack: Loner
Rank: n/a
Physical[/u]
Height: 40"
Weight: 27 lbs
Appearance: Equilibrium got her name from the uncanny balance between the white and black marks on her pelt. She has a white background color, but her markings are what makes her interesting. She has a black mark down her back almost as if someone poured black paint on her, and the drip marks reach to her thighs, and start at her neck and end at the base of her tail. The marks stand out drastically against her pure white pelt, and it makes it difficult for her to blend in with any scenery. Equilibrium has both front paws all black, but the hind paws only have about half an inch on them, covering only her toes. Her tail is my favorite part of this black/white wolf. Equilibrium has a double-helix mark on her tail. The tip of her tail is black, but most of it is white. Some of the paint drip marks have seem to drip onto the base of her tail, but then they stop and give way to the double-helix, which is composed of two lines intertwining with each other. (Imagine DNA. It's kind of like that, but without the smaller lines in between the larger lines that intertwine.) Equilibrium has light red eyes, and they are surrounded by a flame-like pattern, which is black at the border, but slowly turns grey closer to her eye. She has soft fur, but the fur around her legs is usually rough and coarse, due to the thornbushes she ran through when she was a pup. The thorns would scratch her skin, causing the fur to grow ragged. There are many scars on her legs, chest, and lower belly because of the wounds the thorns made. One of her ears are torn, and sometimes bleeds randomly, but other than that, there are no permanent injuries. Equilibrium moves smoothly, but often she will prefer to stay in one place and stay invisible. Every day it seems that her paint marks change, no pattern the same. She likes to play with her light abilities, and because she can only use light and dark pigments that she gets from her light/dark surroundings, many times the amount of white or black changes. On sunny days the marks will be smaller, thinner, and will cover less of her body. The marks don't change drastically, only gradually, moving a centimeter per 5 hours. Many times Equilibrium will neglect to change her pattern, because of low strength.
Other: When angered, Equilibrium's eyes turn into a darker red, due to her ability to change her light, she just takes light away from her colorless eyes. (Well, I guess they are technically colorless. No pigment, right?) I can't make it whenever making a manip of Equilibrium, but she's completely symmetrical.
Mental[/u]
Strengths:
*Equilibrium can manipulate other wolves.
*She's subtle about many of her greater emotions. Often a wolf doesn't notice anger or sadness. She tends to mask her true emotions with other fake ones.
*Equilibrium can calculate great distances, sizing them up. This is very helpful in battle.
*She likes to befriend other wolves to her own benefit.
*Equilibrium is a great liar. Although this could be a weakness, it is very helpful for reasons to follow a wolf to drain him of energy.
*Equilibrium is extremely fast.
Weaknesses:
*She likes to label certain wolves, categorize them. If she gets a first impression wrong, it is too late for her, because in her mind, once a wolf is in a certain kind of category, he can't redeem himself. First impressions are very important to her.
*To call her selfish is too much, but Equilibrium definitely cares a great deal more about her own health than the welfare of others.
*Equilibrium can't truly find a friend. The prospect of another wolf simply being nice to her is lost. In her mind, a wolf has his own reasons for being "friends."
*Equilibrium will do anything to avoid confrontation. She isn't that bad at fighting, but she would rather not want a wolf remembering her for any particular reason that might ruin her reputation.
*She is rather lazy when it comes to keeping promises. Don't trust her.
Personality: if Equilibrium was human she would have been an actor, and a good one at that. She can switch personalities as fast as you can flick a light switch. Most of the time she uses this talent for her own good, and it is very handy when it comes to manipulating other wolves. Often she will play as a very nice but strong wolf, which many wolves like to have as a friend. This personality is completely and totally different from her true self. Equilibrium will manipulate wolves to get what she wants, and often she will only become another wolf's mate just to use him. She has gone through many mates already. Equilibrium likes to lie to other wolves, and many times deception has came in handy whenever she needs a wolf's energy. Equilibrium is very organized when it comes on taking energy from a wolf. She is subtle and already has a plan for what she will do. First she labels the wolf from first impression. Is he insane? Weak? Friendly? Easily angered? Caring? Dangerous? Then she puts the wolf into a category. Then she will act on a certain personality depending on what category suits him best. After that, he will let his guard down, and soon Equilibrium has a energy source on which to tap off of. Equilibrium often will label certain wolves as her victims for another time. Any wolves that she doesn't like she will often attempt to hurt emotionally. If he is male, often either betrayal or making his mate dislike him will do. She likes to keep a good reputation up, but besides that, she prefers to stay away from large populations. She will try to avoid pack territory as much as possible. Equilibrium doesn't usually want anything particular from another wolf, but once she wants it, she won't let go. Often times she will try to be popular with males so that way if she ever gets bored, she can always have some fun with toying and tugging at some hearts. It seems to amuse her when a wolf emotionally breaks.
History: Alas, to have the life of Equilibrium! She was born in a large litter, and knew little of her father. She couldn't complain, though, for her mother visited many males in and out of the den, and therefore had many new fathers. Her mother had too many litters, and the oddest thing was that all of them were yellow or white. Poor Equilibrium was the only wolf in the entire litter who was born with markings like her own. Possibly her true father had an odd gene that was rarely found. Oh, but it bothered Equilibrium so. The other pups and siblings, (About 12 of them,) would constantly pick on and fight with Equilibrium. Equilibrium, already an outcast within her own family, retreated from her brothers and sisters, missing out on one of the most important things in a pup's life: Play. Equilibrium, now hurt physically from her cruel siblings, and mentally, learned a new way of survival. She would adapt. Equilibrium soon learned how to fight, and she would snap at any wolf that comes near. Her mind grew twisted, and it would only take seconds for her to become enraged. She bared her fangs constantly, and many pups would run from her, whining. She had adapted, but could she turn back into the wolf she was supposed to be?
(Now Equilibrium isn't a small pup, but still is very young. Possibly 8 or 9 years old.)
Equilibrium no longer was bothered by the other pups, but now they wouldn't go near her. She was alone, and hurt, with no one to comfort her. Until Sena came along. Sena was pure black, literally the black sheep of the bunch. She was treated not unlike Equilibrium, but only wanted a friend. One day she stumbled upon Equilibrium, and quickly introduced herself. "Hi, my name is Sena! You must be another one of my sisters!" Equilibrium, taken by surprise by this sudden attention, jumped back and fell in the river. Sena didn't laugh, but instead helped Equilibrium back out. "Are you okay?" She asked, concern showing on her face. "Um, yes, I am. My name is Equilibrium." Sena smiled. "I think we'll get along just great!" Equilibrium smiled too, but in her mind she was wondering what the wolf could possibly want from her. The two young wolves actually did get along, but slowly. Sena visited every day, helping with some hunting, and the two showed each other their own special hunting techniques that both had taught themselves. "You see, if you crouch like this, a rabbit might be able to smell you, but in the right conditions, he won't be able to see you. Just move downwind of the rabbit." Sena said during one of her visits, demonstrating a hunting crouch. Suddenly she stopped, staring off into the distance.
"What is it?" Equilibrium asked. Sena didn't answer. Then, slowly, without moving, she whispered. "Dragon." Equilibrium looked up. In the distance, there was a dragon. He was heading right towards them. "RUN!" Equilibrium shouted, breaking Sena out of her trance. Sena hurriedly scrambled to her feet and ran away, with Equilibrium close behind. Then Sena tripped over something and fell. It growled. Equilibrium turned to see what she had tripped over. It was a baby dragon. The larger dragon roared and started to pursue Sena. Equilibrium looked frantically around and saw an old abandoned fox den. She grabbed Sena and pushed her into the fox den. The dragon was getting closer. Equilibrium started to climb into the den after Sena, but suddenly a burst of fire made her jump back. The dragon was in the air, a trail of smoke leaving its jaws. Then it shot a stream of fire right at the den, causing it to catch on fire. The dry grass inside the den lit easily. Sena was trapped.
"Equilibrium! Help me!" Sena cried. Equilibrium looked from Sena to the forest. The dragon was about to strike again. She could pull Sena up, but at what cost? Equilibrium turned and ran, stopping only when she was safe and out of view in the forest to look back. The dragon fired again. Sena was dead. Equilibrium turned away, sighed, and continued walking into the forest. She could hunt, and possibly survive on her own. Survive. Adapt. Live on. These were the only things important to her now. But now she needed shelter. It was night, and plenty of things were big enough to prey on a young lumen. Equilibrium found another fox den, but shuddered. She would find somewhere else to sleep. She looked around, calmly at first, but now more and more frantic. She needed somewhere to hide! The darkness wasn't the problem. It was the absence. There was no sound. Nothing except her own breath and footsteps. It was as if the forest was holding its breath. Equilibrium knew that the dragon might want to look for her next. She looked up, hoping for something to show up, even a bird would reassure her. Then it hit her. The trees! Surely Equilibrium could climb a shorter one and sleep in its branches. Equilibrium scanned the area, and saw the perfect tree. She ran towards it, fear making her run faster than ever. But the problem about fear is that you can't stop once you start. She saw the bushes, and the wicked looking thorns. She tried to stop, but that didn't stop the thorns from tearing into her flesh, leaving hundreds of small but deep scars on her legs, chest, and haunches. She cried out in pain and struggled to free herself from the painful grip of the dead bushes. She managed to unhook herself from the bushes and she jumped up on a rock, where she jumped again, halfway landing on the lowest branch. She scrambled to hang on, claws digging into the rough bark, and she climbed up on the branch, sitting close to the trunk of the tree, huddled up next to it to keep warm. She cried herself to sleep the first night on her own.
Murder! Murder! Equilibrium suddenly woke up. Who said that? She snapped her head around, and found the source of the voice. It was a crow. Only a crow. Caw! Caw! Equilibrium shivered in the cold wind. It was early in the morning, and it was still dark. The sky had a navy blue hue to it, and everything was silhouetted in black. Equilibrium yawned, exhausted from lack of sleep. She had nightmares of Sena, begging her to save her, all night. The crow was right. She was a murderer. Equilibrium jumped off of the tree, stretching her stiff joints. Surely this anxiety and fear will eventually lead to depression, and depression will lead to starvation. Adapt. Equilibrium stared at the crow, who eyed her suspiciously. Then, it started to croak. It tried to fly away, but it fell to the ground with a thud. Dead.
Feeling refreshed, Equilibrium trotted away from the tree. She needed to get to a better spot. She was still hungry, and this forest only had squirrels and things too big for her to handle. Then Equilibrium heard a voice. She hid behind a tree and attempted to turn completely invisible. It was an old white wolf whose pelt had turned more yellow than its original color. "Come out, wolf. I could hear you. Just because I can't see doesn't mean I don't know you're there." Equilibruim creeped out from behind the tree. She was glad that the wolf couldn't see, because if he could, he would know that she was plotting something. Adapt. She walked closer to the wolf and started to cry. "Oh, please, help a wolf in need! My mother has been attacked, and I have no one to take care of me!" Equilibrium wasn't actually crying, of course. This was the first time her acting skills have came in need. The wolf tilted his head to better hear the wolf. "Oh, poor pup. Come with me." Equilibrium smiled, and said in a trembling voice, "O-Okay...."
The old wolf smiled and led her to his home, where he made sure she was comfortable. Then he lay next to her and started to sleep. Equilibrium leaned away from him, but then started taking energy from him. Just a little bit. The old wolf sighed. Equilibrium hadn't intended on draining a lot, but an old weak wolf like the one she was with right now didn't have much energy. He woke up. "Are you hungry? I know a friend who.... He trailed off. That was the last thing he ever said. Equilibrium snuck out of the old wolf's cave and ran away, looking for other wolves. Adapt. She knew what she would do now. It was obvious. Equilibrium knew who she was, and what she would do. The old wolf would not be the first one of her victims. Equilibrium soon found another wolf who could see, but he was very suggestible. Equilibrium acted as if she had injured a leg, and unexpectedly, the wolf fell in love with her within the first week. Then Equilibrium experimented with a new thing: Manipulation. Equilibrium started to train herself on this, and soon developed the label-and-categorize system. Equilibrium lived like this for 10 long years.
One day, sitting alone on a tree, Equilibrium looked up at the black night sky. The dark invited her. She would come. Equilibrium smiled. This was who she was. A flash of Sena came into her mind. She waved it away. There was only one thought allowed in her mind: Death is inevitable. Why not embrace it? I can help you with that.
Adapt.
