There was utter silence. Not a breath was heard. Not a movement was heard. She crouched there in complete quiet, her striking blue eyes locked upon the unknowing brown rabbit gnawing on some plants just feet in front of her. Her wings were extended upwards, ready to thrust down with such speed that the creature would hardly know what hit it when she did attack. For now, she remained still, studying it as she hunted it. She watched it eat, watched it move around a few times, making sure she was not seen nor heard nor smelled. She had been practicing these skills while hunting the smaller creatures, not that she could hunt anything much larger with the fragile bones she had, and had excelled in them quite well over the past several months. She never cared to be a Guardian. She wasn't a fighter. She was a Hunter.
Naomi moved like lightning, thrusting her wings downward and back to propel herself forwards. She came down upon the tiny herbivore and clasped her jaws around its tiny neck swiftly, snapping it before it could cry out and warn any other prey in the area that there was a predator nearby. She stood there a moment, feeling the life drain out of it as it finally fell limp in her jaws. Then, she sat down and folded her wings in, dropping the kill at her dark feet. She stared at it in disdain, wishing with her heart that there was someone she could show this to, someone she could make proud because she was an accomplished hunter. However, to her there was no one out there or even within these boundaries that wanted to see her hunt, that wanted anything to do with her. Perhaps it was a misled thought, but it was her heart feeling.
There was no doubt the hybrid felt unloved and unwanted. After all, her mother and her sister and one of her half brothers had long since vanished from the pack. She didn't understand why she and Nocht were the only remaining pups of the Aurora litters to stay with the Children. Aurora was gone. Alla was gone. Altan was gone. Of course, there were those half siblings of hers that belonged to her father and the Queen, Satinka, but she never really cared for them. She wasn't sure why exactly, now that she could reflect upon these things. They had never done anything wrong to her, but in her young mind merely months ago, they had stolen all of daddy's attention. Quite frankly, as silly as it was, it made her angry. Watching him take care of them, and there were quite a few of them, made her angry.
Naomi felt the tears press at her eyes, slowly beginning to fall from them and dropping into the moist ground beneath her. Why did Reynard not like hybrids? She asked herself that question all the time and oh so often wondered if that made him hate her, hate her sister. She didn't really know, though, to be honest. She didn't want to ask either. She didn't want to hurt him, to make him feel like he wasn't doing a good job as a father. No, she understood he was busy. He was the alpha, after all, but that didn't stop her from feeling unwanted. The chill of the day in that moment reminded her that she would have no one to keep warm with this winter. It saddened her, honestly. She would miss her mother, her sister. She was afraid to snuggle with some stranger. She was afraid to ask to den with what was technically left of her family.
Naomi didn't know what to do. She was just broken.

His head was low and his wings sagging a little. He was so tired. He had patrolled the entire territory, much like he did so many times, but for some reason he felt drained. For his age, the simple task of patrolling was becoming more and more cumbersome. His sons were old enough now to patrol, but it was hard to tell if they had taken such initiative. Reynard was nearing his tenth year of life, he was littered with scars, half blind and suffering from some arthritis. The question was nagging him more often now. Who would take over for him when he was gone?
He had a plethora of children, but could any of them lead? Perhaps he could father one more litter....though he knew that there was more danger for something to go wrong at his age. He had one daughter that was completely blind, never able to see the beautiful world around her. His tall black ears twitched as a sound grabbed his attention. He lifted his head and saw a pale orange figure not too far off. At first he thought it was Halcyon, however as he drew closer, he recognized one of his bastard daughters. He froze in place, watching her.
Naomi.
The last time he had really interacted with her on a one-on-one level was when she was getting her first flying lesson from him. She and Loca learned together. His heart wrenched slightly. Loca had left the pack to wander the world with Altan. He fretted for his willful daughter, but trusted his adoptive son to care for her. Now he realized that Altan had left behind his blood sisters. His nose flared slightly as the smell of prey blood passed his olfactories. She was hunting? That made him happy, that she was able to provide for herself. Though a pang of guilt washed over him.
Where had the time gone that she had grown up so fast? Aurora had made it plain, without ever saying it, that she did not want him seeing their daughters. He had reluctantly respected the mother's wishes, however he had not seen hide nor hair of her in months. Had she abandoned this litter too? At least she had waited till they were old enough to fend for themselves this time. Naomi had the pack, but it seemed she has distant from the family it contained. It was hard to blame her. He had not made it easy by having other litters. If Loca felt shunned by him having more kids, he could only imagine what Naomi felt.
Then he saw her tears. Without thinking he began walking toward the young adult. No matter how old, a daughter's tears were compelling to any father. Not that he had been much of a father to her. He had a dislike of hybrids true, but as far as he knew, he had never said so outwardly to anyone since Draugur was in charge. He had guilt enough now for how he treated Skyler in the past. It was hard to look past to be true, but he was working on it. His thoughts went back to Aurora, she was one of the few that knew of his past dislike. Had she told their daughters that?
That thought made him wish he had used his powers as alpha to see his girls more often. Though that would have hurt Satinka as well, considering his actions had left their relationship in jeopardy at the time. It was a big complicated mess that he would never be free of it seemed. Perhaps though, he could attempt to make amends.
"Naomi?" He kept his voice soft, not wanting to raise an alarm. "What's the matter?" What else could he ask but that? It had been so long since they had spoke, he was unsure how he would be received. He stopped a few feet away, not wishing to impose.

Her tears. She hated them, she truly did. Aurora had vanished and so had Alla. She didn't know where they were and she was angry about it, but she was also heartbroken. She was able to fend for herself, hence the rabbit at her feet, yet nothing seemed to be the same. She missed hunting and playing with Alla, even though they were very different creatures. The same species, yes, but their personalities were opposite reflections of one another. While Alla adored their half siblings, Naomi hated them. Perhaps hate was a strong word, but she was young and hardly knew any better. Her mother had left her, so she exaggerated many of her emotions. She just wished there was something she could do about it. She just wished there was some way to bring them back to her, even though she couldn't find them.
The voice, though it was one she had recognized, startled her deeply. Her wings upon her back ruffled slightly, having the silence suddenly disturbed. She could only stare at him with her wide blue eyes, which mimicked his own more than her mother's. She definitely took after his appearance. The orange fur, the blue eyes, but the white had come from her mother, as small of an amount as it was. She honestly didn't know what to say. What could she say? He was her father, but she truly didn't know. It almost hurt to see him. She loved him. She was jealous, though, very jealous of her half-siblings. Her mother had told her many things about him, some good and some bad, though she could hardly differentiate the two. It generally had depended on the tone of her voice and even then it had been hard.
"I..." The words wouldn't come to her, but the tears did. Naomi could only slump her shoulders and drop her wings to the ground. Her gaze was locked on the rabbit at her feet and she idly pushed at it with a dainty, winged paw. The tiny wings at her feet, which enhanced her speed in flight incredibly, fluttered as she moved it about. In dismay, she bit back on the sob that was threatening to spill out in her throat. The thought of being alone pained her, though it had been that way for a long while. Aurora had been gone awhile now and she was at a loss. She was just a hunter, but she patrolled too. She could see and catch things from the sky most others with wings could not. She often searched for her mother and sister's pelts. She could distinguish the reds, between Nocht and Moonrose to another pack member or even a stranger.
Naomi looked at him, wondering if he would know. "Where's Mother?" It was all she could say, because she wanted to know. If he knew, she would be joyed and pained at the same time. Joyed to know she was still around, pained to know she had been hiding. She didn't know the verdict, and was even afraid to hear it.
