Sure enough Ahote was pretending he didn't see her crying and somehow despite this she didn't even mind that he had seen her cry. She knew she could tell him anything, and he was quite possibly the only wolf who truly knew her. He seemed amused by her suggestion though, grinning a bit as she looked up at him. Her fur was starting to poof back out in a very outrageous way, making her look a bit like an oversized pup fluffball. "Awwwh, that's no fun though," she grinned back at him, but knew he was just trying to be protective. He really was the brother she never had.
"Oh of course, I'm sure you'll be fending off all the suitors to your little girl. Maybe she can learn some street smarts from me," she laughed a little bit, watching her own pups amusement with his horns. Had they met their father they would know about horned wolves; Forte of course had been a horned myou. The thought of him made her heart hurt, but she quickly hid it, watching as Missy finally made her way towards Ahote. She was glad his pups would enjoy the company, even with her oddballs of pups, and in no time they were off, leaving them to chat. Ahote seemed mad about Forte, and of course, Rhiannon understood. The male had abandoned her when she needed him most, and even though she wanted to be okay with it, it was a wound that was too fresh... and too frequent.
"Ahote, calm, it's okay. I doubt he's coming back. He'd hardly be able to find me. I guess he thought he was doing the right thing. For all we know he could have gotten lost..." she didn't know what else to say, or why she was trying to defend Forte, but she simply nodded at his next words. But soon she was embraced in a hug, snuggling her face into his furry chest. His words brought a new wave of tears to her eyes, flooding her cheeks, but she buried them into his chest, stilling her breaths to calm herself. "I just wish none of this had happened. Everything was fine, and now... I don't know. You're right though. You're always right. How come I let go of you again?" she said, trying to bring the conversation around to another joke, closing her eyes as he began to lick her face and nuzzled her. She returned his affection and nodded a bit. She knew Ahote would care for her no matter what, and it was times like this when she needed it most.
She looked up, her hazel eyes finding his piercing gold ones, smiling a little bit despite the tears. She said nothing, not knowing what to do. But he broke the silence, nodding a bit as he spoke. The last bit he said softly, but the hit home and Rhiannon found herself staring at him with wide, but soft eyes. It was true, really. Ahote had been there when Forte had not and pushed her through everything. Even now he was here, and where was her so called mate? She nodded, but her tongue was tied, her thoughts in such a jumble she wasn't quite sure how to get them out without tripping over them all.
But his next words brought the smile back to her face, and she touched her nose to his gently. "Just sit here with me for a while? I've missed you so..." she spoke softly, moving towards him to close the gap and snuggling herself back into his warm embrace. If only time could stop and she could stay there. Ahote meant safety. He meant a friend. And he meant love, platonic, and from what he said before... something else maybe. Rhiannon herself wasn't even sure.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/lilDiablo_/ahotemid.jpg] Over all the trials and tribulations he and Rhiannon had had, he had seen her cry more than once, but he had also seen her stand tall in front of a pack and lead them, and inspire them all to better themselves to earn higher ranks within her pack. He remembered her fur bright against the stones she sat against, and how when her dragon had first appeared, she had stood bravely in the face of supposed danger why the other wolves beneath her had looked to her for strength. It would seem the wolves within her own pack were still looking to her for strength which was why he did not acknowledge her tears and allowed her to remain strong in their eyes. In his eyes she was always strong, but very persistent as well and thats what made her better in his eyes, better than most alphas and better than most wolves. She inspired loyalty from those around her even now, and even though he had his own pack, he was still loyal to her, still wanting to take care of her and make sure she was okay, and those with her were safe. His eyes roamed over her as he saw here fur began to puff out and she slowly came back to look like the Rhia he knew instead of a drowned rat.
At her comment about suitors his eyes nearly rolled back in his head. He had no intentions of letting a male near his daughter even when she did reach mating age. She was HIS daughter and he would be damned if any male got near her. His fur began to bristle at the very thought of some rogue male coming close, and charming his way into mating with her. It was entirely crazy considering Ahote WAS one of those roguish males who did almost anything to mate with a female he had his eyes on. But because he was one of those males he knew all the signs to look for when it came to his little girl. He brightened when Rhia spoke of learning from her, “Of course she can, and since you are here now she can learn with you close by, instead of me sending her there and having her take the dangerous trip back and forth...so much good will come of you being here..” This he knew was true, with Rhia close he knew his pups would enjoy another mother figure, Rava though she had gotten close to them, was often gone, and now they had someone else who he knew would not abandon them. “They need a motherly type figure...someone who they can run to if they have problems, I know they will just love you.”
He couldn't help but be so angry with the male Rhia had called her mate, to Ahote he was a worthless piece of horned shit. There was no way in hell Ahote would let him live if he ever returned into Rhia's life again. He could not look into her face and see those tears again, he just couldn't. He remembered the last time Forte had left, and it was right before he had left and sure enough Rhia had had to shoulder the burden of pups and a pack all alone, and THAT was simply unacceptable. He would have liked to rant on and on about the male and how if any other male got close to her he's spear them into the next territory but he knew the subject was just too much for the smaller red female. Her body language told him it was just something she could not deal with right now and he understood. He had felt the same feeling of uncomfortableness when his pups had asked him about their mother, and it was not for hard feelings for leaving him but mainly for leaving them. So in a way he understood and let the topic drop as best he could.
His brain heard her telling him to calm and the excuses she gave the male that used to be her mate. She still had feelings for him. Ahote's ears pinned back against his skull, but he supposed he could not blame her, just because he had not had feelings for his late mate, did not mean that he had not had feelings for a female once and there was a time when he had made excuses for her too. Why she had left him and not stayed to try to have more pups, they were too young, she was too distraught...the pain in his eyes was so intense he had to look up into the sky to avoid having the smaller female see it. When he had pulled her close he felt the wetness from her eyes slowly sink into the thick fur of his chest and he inhaled deeply, he knew she was still hiding so much in and he knew he could only do and comfort her so much, but he also knew he loved her. He had loved her since they had talked that day on the ridge of her territory which was why it was so heart breaking and hard to leave her to tend to his own family when he knew she was due to bring her own into the world.
“You'll never truly let go of me Rhiannon. I will cross deserts, and plains, snow laden lands, and even the thickest jungle to help you. I would fight the entire mafia for you, just remember that...I do love you Rhiannon, more than you will ever know.” That in itself was the truth, just because he was alpha of his own pack did not mean he couldn't care for her and be loyal to her after all, they were allianced to each other and though he would fight for and with the Children, Rhiannon held his heart. When her nose touched his, he gently pushed her nose up after nosing around her face and neck and snuffling around in her fur he nodded. She wanted someone to be there with her, and he could not very well deny her. “As I have missed you, I had thought about sending a messenger each new moon to you, but each new moon a new litter was born or a new member came and needed help...it has just been so hectic here..but my excuses are null, I should have, perhaps you would not have had to flee as you did...” They had slowly made their way to the valley and there he plopped down in the snow, his body in a semi circle so that if she so chose to she could cuddle into his embrace and stay warm while they enjoyed the silent view of the snow laden valley before them..”I come here when I need silence, but with you here, our whispers will be just enough noise to drown out any thoughts but the best..” His eyes seemed to glow in the night as he watched her eager to see what her next move would be.

Rhiannon nodded to his words. "It will be exciting for both of us. I'm sure Miseria will love having another female around her age here." She smiled a little bit, thinking of her only remaining daughter. She had another daughter once; two actually, but one had been stolen from her by the very waters of the canyon she called her home. Again, thoughts repressed, thoughts pushed back. She almost laughed at the next thing he said, the colour rising to her cheeks. "Ahote, I'm not sure I'm the best mother... I mean, I lost all the pups in my first litter, and now these little ones barely know anything besides me and the two keiyou. And I almost lost them too. I think I might be going out of my mind... but I will do my best. I think a change of scenery will help too."
Rhiannon herself had not even spoken to the pups about their dad... maybe they'd willingly believe Ahote was the father they asked about? It was a thought for another day, and perhaps might just do the trick. If she was going to play mum for his, he could do the same. And maybe they could have a very strange, dysfunctional little family. The thought made her smile a bit before she found herself snuggled into Ahote's fur, consoled by his large, warming prescence.
He spoke to her again, comfortingly and she closed her eyes, letting his words pour over her like comforting solace. She spoke nothing in reply, just letting his words sink in. Speaking about her feelings was never something easy for the small female, but she felt the same. She wished she had just come to Ahote earlier. She hated to give up, even if it was sometimes the braver option. He spoke once more and she nodded. "I understand. Being an alpha is more than its fair share of work. Even if you had, I'm sure the flood would have still swept us out. There's nothing you can do now. I'm just glad we got out and got here safely. All of us," she wandered beside him, curling up in the snow beside him. She wasn't used to the cold powder beneath her body and soon found herself snuggling as close as possible to him. She cuddled up close, laying her head on one of his massive legs.
"Mmm, it's beautiful... even with the snow." she said softly, her puffy body helping to keep her warm. She half wondered what the children were doing, bouncing about in the newly found snow. She had seen snow before, but her children had never ventured from the canyon. "Do you believe in fate? As in... do you think everything is pre-chosen? Or do you think we can change our paths?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/lilDiablo_/ahotemid.jpg] Ahote wasn’t quite sure why he was so happy at the very moment, he had missed Rhia that much was very true, but did that mean he did not have a fulfilling life here in the Taiga with his pack? Of course not, Ahote found himself more than often quite content, even though through the beginning it had been very hard. He had just found a home in the Cadre’s lands and become attached to his alphess and pack when one decision turned his world upside down. He had built a pack from scratch and the rubble and rabble that it had been, and as it stood he thought many of the members were rather content, he did not rule with an iron paw per say but he did give of himself and provide for his members. Here was another alpha sitting next to him, looking a little out of place with all the white and green of his land, here she was, such a vibrant color of red with white markings, and more fluffy than any female he had yet to meet. It actually brought a rather large smile to his muzzle as he glance at her, like a small, fuzzy bundle of fire sitting in his snowbound territory, and she would also be the fuzzy flame as far as he was concerned. Even if she had been run out of her canyon, she had saved her pups and the members as she could, it was what a good alpha would do.
He snorted with attitude at her comment that she might not be the best mother, but decided to take the time to try to reassure the female who had a good piece of his heart. “Rhiannon. We all have to deal with nature, and you know as well as I do that the lives of pups are never promised to us.” His eyes took on a rather painful glare as he remembered his own first experience with being a father, and he knew now was a time Rhia probably needed to here it, “Rhiannon, when I was not much more than an adolescent, I became a father, and I even took a mate…she was beautiful, and powerful…everything I thought I should have in a mate.” His shoulders shook slightly as the scenes replayed behind his eyes, the pain quite visible before the special female before him. “We were loners, but we found a den in a beautiful valley and just knew we would soon have a litter that would keep us busy. I hunted for her, kept her as safe and away from the elements as I could. After the pups were birthed she had left the den to stretch her legs and try to hunt something for herself…” His voice cracked slightly as he looked up into the night sky, his breath coming out in small puffs. “A storm broke, and the valley flooded so fast, too fast, our legs no matter how long got us there too late, our first litter, my first litter, drowned in their den, the den that was supposed to be safe.”
He felt the tears behind his eyes, but refused to let them fall, he had mourned the loss of his first mate and first litter a long time ago, and though it still shredded the large Yagi’s heart to remember it, he kept it as a close memory for many reasons. “I looked for her, searched for her but soon after she disappeared, I always thought it was because she couldn’t stand to look at me, knowing that neither of us could have saved them, did save them. When I left the canyon the last time, I flew on the wings of spirit to return to these lands, so that I could help Seven, knowing she would be giving birth any day. I returned to find my pups on the entrance to the Home Tree. They lay there being buffeted by the strong winter winds, no protection, no mother, no nothing.” He looked down on the smaller female then his eyes strong, “Had it not been for a member of this pack who was willing to suckle them and keep them warm, they would have died, I might not have been fast enough to save them once more. So when you say you might not be the best mother, I might not be the best father, but there are always going to be circumstances beyond our control. It does not mean it breaks our heart any less. But you and I both have a chance to do the right thing by these litters.” In his case, he had two litters he needed to do right by and he had made sure the Avalon was well cared for as had Pyke, and Ahote raised the entire litter as though he had a hand in their making, because it was the right thing to do.
“Being here, with your two winged wolves, who by all means seem very loyal, just you, them and the pups will take a load off your mind. I promise it will do you good. Maybe it’s just time to be a mother, without necessarily being an alphess. Give yourself and your time to your pups…I fear I have had to leave my pups in the care of others for a good portion of their early life, because I came here and had to change things, and protect these lands, for their futures. I hope some day..they understand. If you are just yourself I am sure Adraxxia will love you. Aroh, well…he’s a big boy, and soon I hope he realizes just what his place is…Syver is more shy so don’t take it personally if he doesn’t take, he spent the majority of his pup hood sleeping and fighting off a breathing problem….he about scared me to death so many nights I can’t even tell you. Your pups, you, you and yours are my family, they might as well be my pack Rhiannon. Anything you need, you have but to ask.” As she came closer he pushed his nose into the thickness of her fur, brushing his face, careful of his sabers against her body for his own sense of home and comfort.
He let out a slow rumble of appreciation as she lay her head against his leg and he curled his body around her as best he could to keep her warm. He was missing a large fluffy tail, seeing as his was naturally docked but he did his best, and his body put out enough heat that they should both be okay, at least for now. If she passed out, or could not move anymore, he could carry her to the home tree and place her in a warm den if he had to, without question. His eyes had closed and for a long moment silence prevailed over them, though he didn’t mind, he knew Rhia and he also knew that trying to get how she felt about anything was like pulling those sharp fangs out of her mouth. “It is beautiful,” he said following her train of thought, “It get hard in the winter, but it makes spring and summer all the more enjoyable, and with the abundance of prey most of the wolves have learned to try to save feathers and furs to pad their dens to insulate them better.” At her final question his ears perked up, and even fell to the side as he thought about whether there was such a thing as fate…”I would like to say it’s a little of both, we can make all the decisions we want, but we can’t make it rain, or make it stop, we can’t turn a snowy wonderland into a jungle. We cannot stop nature, but we can choose how we react to it, so in a way I guess I believe that up until a certain point, yes we choose our own paths, sometimes however, the Great Spirit, or nature decides to knock us off course, then it is our decision to change our path to suit, or fight to go back to our original path…what do you think?”

Ahote seemed to share in Rhiannon's joy, and truly she was happy to be with him. The snow was perhaps not her favourite thing, as it chilled her belly and paws, but his presence was warming and she could barely think about that when her mind raced with his name. But after her little pity party about her parenting skills, Ahote snorted, bringing Rhiannon back to her cold reality. Was the snort in agreement, or...? He soon clarified, and Rhiannon felt a bit better. She knew she was being hard on herself, even if she did believe it. As a pup, her own raising was not completely smooth, but it was at least not as bumpy as her own pups.
She nodded with what he said, but replied with silence, knowing he was speaking the truth. She had no control over the death that surrounded her first litter. It was misfortune that had taken her first children away from her. She had been a doting mother even then. She had tried... she was doing her best with the second. She was not quite ready for his next words though, and she looked up at him with huge hazel eyes, taking in his words. She found herself nuzzling his neck as he finished the story, knowing where the end would lead. The tale was horrific, and though she was shocked to hear about his first mate and that he had fathered a litter before, she was more worried about consoling him. Her pain seemed nothing compared to that. She had at least gotten her pups out safe. The older pups had found their own ends... save Isealdyr whom she was unable to save from the raging waters of their canyon river. She took a deep breath to steady herself and focused back on Ahote, licking his muzzle gently.
"I'm so sorry," she said, not really knowing what else to say to make it better. Ahote was the one with the words; he knew how to say things and make them sound good. Rhiannon was the go-getter, the blunt one. Emotions and consolation was not her strong suit. Even still she tried, nuzzling him as he continued to talk, but she couldn't help gasp as Ahote said what happened with the birth of his current litter. Seven had just left the pups? She couldn't help but feel her hackles rise, as her head shot up to look at him. Trying to control her temper, she listened to him out, nodding with approval to his words. "You're right, you always are," she said, not in a sarcastic or mean way, but in a truthful one. Ahote had the right words and he was far more insightful. It was a truth she knew.
"But damnit Ahote, if that Seven ever shows up I am giving her a piece of my mind, and you better not hold me back because my paw is going to go so far up her a-" she was cut off by his next words, probably a good thing for her, and she settled back down beside him, still a bit grumpy at the yagi who had almost caused the death of her god children. Again, he was completely right with what he said. She needed a break, time to just be mother and not be a leader. She nodded her head and remembered about Adraxxia and how excited she was to meet him. The other two boys would be fun too, and she couldn't wait to meet his pups, even though they'd be much bigger than she herself. The part about Syver's sickness though caused another nuzzle from Rhiannon. Going through such a time must have been hard. They were family, he said. Even if not by blood, they were family. Rhiannon nodded and licked him right by the nose. His face snuggled into her fluff, and she nuzzled her face next to him.
Rhiannon enjoyed the silence, snuggled up next to her big angel. Despite being encompassing it was comfortable, and soon conversation ensued, Rhiannon nodding a bit. She knew the taiga would get cold; there was nothing she could do about that. Even with all the personality in the world, she couldn't douse the snow with it. He seemed disheartened by her next question though, and she frowned a bit. Maybe it was something she shouldn't have asked. She pulled away a bit, trying to gauge his answer as he spoke. But his words were true and she found herself nodding to what he said. It was right; no one could make it rain, or snow, not even the lupus. But she had made her own decisions, for better or worse. Sometimes they had gone well, others... well, the proof was in the pudding. "I'd like to think I have a say in what I do, but the Great Spirit does like throwing obstacles in my path. I suppose life is kind of like the journey you choose... but sometimes I think there must be things you can't avoid. Or things that occur for the sake of an end. For example, the flood. It was terrible and I was terrified out of my mind that we would all die. But it lead us here, to you, and to this... and now I think that this will bring nothing but joy to our lives. It was for the better. Got my sorry, sad ass off the canyon ground moping and into your pack. Though it shouldn't have taken that for me to come see you. I should have visited sooner."
She sheepishly found herself looking at the ground, but rose quickly after, bounding up [which wasn't much compared to Ahote, she basically stood as high as he lay] and circled around so she could look him in the face. "But now that we're here, we're family, and everything feels right again, and gah, I'm just so happy! I don't think I can stand to be sad for any longer." With that she bounded onto his face, trying not to give him any time to react. Hey, they were family right, and who said that the Rhia-clan weren't just as horny as Ahote's?
