It was summer. Oddly until now, seasons didn't matter to her. It was summer today and Hawk was near the thicker part of the taiga, and she was careful not to be too far from the den. It was too risky. Who knew what would surprise her and perhaps no one would find her this time. Wrinkling her muzzle she refused to think more about this, not if she was within a running distance to the pack dens. She remembered coming here a long time ago, but she left for some reason she didn't know. Or remember. But she came here again. Why was this pack special to her? It was just a pack.
Although she thought the treatment the Enclave had towards females was odd, Hawk felt relatively safe here. Safer than anywhere else and because of this, she often wondered what had made her to remain as a loner for so long. It was a dangerous lifestyle, even for a wild young wolf like her. But she couldn't remember how wild and careless she was. It should be terrifying, not remembering who she was supposed to be, but it didn't scare her. It only confused her, but it didn't scare her. Hawk thought it didn't terrify her so much because she was expecting it to come back rushing into her any time soon. She refused to allow herself to imagine a life without any recollection of her past self. Perhaps that was why.
Tentatively she took a few steps forwards, her ears prickling for any peculiar noises, Occasionally she jumped whenever a stick snapped or a bird called, but she always scold herself harshly afterwards. It was not a life if she was scared of everything so she inhaled, expanding her chest, and exhaled before going backwards towards the den. But her destination wasn't the den; she wanted to move through the thinner part of the forest, and hopefully she would feel more relaxed there without everything being obscured from her sight. Within a minute she was at the centre of the thinner forest and sat down warily with her back on the pack dens. Every part of her body was itching for the safety in the darkness of the den, but she fought it. It didn't matter how hard she fought, she still felt the same urge to flee. Hawk twitched slightly as if she was going to move but decided against it. Then she stood up and turned towards the dens a little too hurriedly.

He stretched his wings, his brown feathers accented with gold glinting in what sunlight managed to stream through the thicket of the branches that were all around. They crossed one another in intricate patterns of lace, creating a beautiful dance of light and shadows upon the ground and upon the other things within the forest that the canopy sheltered. It was much like a show, to be honest, and whatever was below was merely a piece of paper to be painted upon. It was very beautiful and he enjoyed seeing the wonderful patterns they made upon the forest on a day to day basis. Of course, all of these things did depend on whether or not the sun decided to come out that day. However, today it had and that was really all he cared about. For once, in the midst of his hunting, he was able to concern himself with nothing more than his catch and the beauty of the land.
Alucio sighed, knowing he wouldn't be able to just sit there forever and let the day fly away at his will. He yawned and stretched out again, managing to pull himself to his feet with lovely grace. Leaning to the side, he clamped his jaws around the rather large buck he had gotten his claws on that nice day. It was larger than he was and would certainly feed quite a few of the females within the pack. He intended it for them and not for anyone else. That was a part of his job, after all, considering that the pack worshiped the females like precious gems. They created the future and, quite honestly, no male would ever understand the pain females went through when it came carrying, birthing, and raising pups. He never complained or treated any female badly, knowing that what they went through was a lot more painful that what he could ever go through.
He dragged the kill back through the forest, pulling it over the roots and past any bushes that would get in his way. It wasn't long before the dens came into sight and a few other wolves marveled at his catch. He took it to the fresh kill pile, snapping lightly at a younger male who intended to take it for his own. "Females only." It wasn't often that he snapped at anyone, but he took his duties as one of the two Skoll in the pack, the second in command, quite seriously. He did not care if the males took some of the smaller animals, but he would prefer if they left the larger kill for the females that really needed it, especially those that were expecting. It was important to feed those females, because they needed the protein and other things for their bodies with puppies on the way. He turned to leave, his sky blue eyes landing on a familiar, one-winged figure.
Alucio paused to turn and dig a rabbit out of the pile, grasping it tightly in his jaws before heading towards the female. He approached her quietly, delicately. He didn't expect her to turn around has fast as she had done, their muzzles connecting slightly, which caused him to drop the rabbit between them. He smiled at her and chuckled, leaning down to push the morsel closer to her feet, offering it to her. He sat back on his haunches and curled his tail around his own feet, tucking his massive wings into his side. His gentle eyes didn't glance at the nub on her shoulder, nor did he mind the fact that she had a missing wing and would no longer be able to fly. He attempted to hold her gaze respectfully, his heart throbbing at the beautiful shades of orange. "How have you been, Hawk? Do you fair well?" There was real concern in his voice.

| [atrb=style, font-family: arial; text-align: justify; background: #7d7c7c; border: 1px solid #595555; color: #ffffff; padding: 3px; opacity: 0.5]Hawk did not expect to see anything except for a little glimpse of the dens when she turned, so seeing Alucio's sky blue eyes up close scared her for a moment. Quickly she shuffled a few steps backwards clumsily with a wing hanging out, trying to balance herself. Since she had only one wing, she was unable to balance herself properly and she slumped backwards. It was not a very elegant move at all. Hawk felt heat rising up her face and her gaze left Alucio's eyes to the rabbit at his paws. Still deliberately avoiding his gaze, Hawk scrambled to stand up and salvage most of her lost dignity. Then she met his eyes tentatively, hoping that no more blood would rise up to her cheeks.
It did, but not so much so she found she could hold her gaze for a little while longer. "Alucio." Her voice was passive, or at least she wanted it to be. Hawk's gaze went down at the rabbit he was nudging towards her and then up at him again. This time his face wasn't blurred and diminished by pain. She was taken aback by the clear masculineness in his face and body. She was surprised that she had forgotten how handsome he looked, but then she had forgotten many things after the attack. There was a smile was upon Alucio's lips, which reminded her of his generosity, and she felt her mouth turning into a tiny smile. But it disappeared as he spoke.
Although Alucio's words were supposed to be kind, they were like several icy shards impaling through Hawk's heart. Her golden eyes darted down at the rabbit sharply and there was a frown on her face. He was asking how she was. If he was actually interested he would come seeking for her a long time ago. He knew, probably better than anyone, how Hawk's state of mind was after the attack because he was the first wolf she ran into with a shredded wing. Hawk was sure that Alucio knew how confused and broken she felt, yet he wasn't bothered to check on her any time after she had been healed. To put it bluntly, he had abandoned her when she need him, and now after she had learnt not to rely on him, he came back. "Yes, I'm fine, no thanks to you." The words were cold and sharp. Of course, he had saved her life but he had not helped her during the important process of healing; repairing her mind. Hawk thought Alucio was important to her, but apparently he wasn't now that she had went through so many things without him. She should forgive him and accept that he was not that important.
But she couldn't. The way he seemed to have forgotten her hurt her. A lot. Then when he felt like it, he came to her, like now. Instead of feeling all mushy when she saw his face, Hawk only felt anger, like she had been betrayed. To be fair, perhaps she wasn't that important for him to worry about. It would be horrible but it was about the only explanation of his actions. Shoving that idea out of her mind, Hawk did not want to think that, mostly because she didn't want it to be true. "Why the sudden interest in my wellbeing?" Hawk spoke brusquely, hinting his attitude towards her, and sat down with her tail curled around her. With all her anger and confusion, her earlier fear of being exposed forgotten.

Her words hurt him, stinging like the horns of a Yagi piercing the skin. Luckily, he had only ever had that encounter once and no more than that. He had to say that he was glad he had never angered Ahote for any reason. That male is one of the last ones he would ever want to fight for any reason. A friendly spar was one thing, but if a match was meant to have a real outcome that was important, as in one or the other was supposed to die. He was frail, though he would not like to admit such things, and he would not stand a chance against Ahote or even Duchan for any reason. He had only his wings and his hollow bones. He had no massive horns and he had no powers that Duchan had. Perhaps he was used as the kinder leader of the three, the soft one that could provide something of a gentler touch than the other two could.
It made his chest ache, everything she spat at him. He did care for her, more than he would ever admit to anyone at this point, and he wasn't so sure what to say in response to the words that she gave to him. It hurt him and he wanted to curl up and sulk in a corner. What was he supposed to do? What could he say to her that would make her understand this? He had wanted to be with her every second of the day since he had found her as she had appeared on the territory. He felt horrid for not being there, but he was one of the two second in commands. He could not just leave his pack unattended for any reason and he could not abandon the duties he had promised himself to honor. The females needed to be fed, the borders patrolled, and loners fended off, unless they intended to join. Accepting new members was another thing as well.
"Hawk..." That was all he said for a moment, unable to stew up any words to say to the still beautiful female. There were no excuses, no compliments, nothing he could say to make her forgive him for what he had done. He had left her, especially when she needed him most. His ears went flat and he hung his head in shame. His voice had lowered in its volume, "I will not feed you excuses or compliments in order to let what I did slide. You are smarter than that and wouldn't let it pass regardless, but...I am sorry. I wanted to be there...every passing second of the day since I found you. I never wanted to leave your side when Vanya healed you." That was the least he could say at that point. There was very little he could say. He just wanted her to know he was sorry.
Sudden interest? He'd been interested from the start. He cared deeply for the female, even though he had his choice amongst many other females within the pack, and he cared for her. He didn't care if she forgave him and never spoke to him again. She had every right to hate him, to push him away because he had not been there for her, and he didn't care if she did. He believed she had her right to feel the way she did and he wouldn't stop her from doing so. "I have always been interested, Hawk, but...I cannot abandon my duties to this pack. I am only one of two Skoll. That is no excuse, though, and you have every right to feel the way you do towards me. I should have been there, I know that, but I wasn't." He was calling out his own faults, being sure she knew that he was aware of them himself. "Don't forget you are still beautiful, though." No missing wing could make him believe different.

| [atrb=style, font-family: arial; text-align: justify; background: #7d7c7c; border: 1px solid #595555; color: #ffffff; padding: 3px; opacity: 0.5]As Hawk glared at Alucio, her angry golden eyes met his hurt blue ones, she could faintly recall the time she thought they met for the first time. It was probably a dream she had, but she didn't think so. It was too real and sharp for a dream. She remembered feeling lost and confused, which promptly changed into relief when she ran into a friendly keiyou. The conversation... It was unclear, but she guessed it was about the Aurelian Enclave. What else, really? Another sensation she could remember was her heart beating frantically, and she remembered worrying that the blue-eyed keiyou would hear it. A sudden wave of nostalgia hit her, leaving only confusion in its wake. Was it possible to miss something you didn't remember clearly? It was a horrible feeling; missing something you couldn't remember. She felt guilty but when she focused on the male in front of her, her guilt disappeared.
Hawk listened to Alucio quietly, but not without a scowl on her face. It was time for him to make excuses, after all. He should have some good ones because he had weeks to come up with a few. Her gaze softened when Alucio said he was sorry and that he never wanted to leave her. But he mentioned Vanya. Was she the healer? Hawk had imagined the wolf who healed her without a face for a long time. Because it was easier to deal with it. Imagining a wolf with a face, eyes, and mouth tearing her wing off and healing it afterwards was horrible. It made it all more... Horrifying. Hawk didn't know what to think about hearing about this Vanya since she had tried so hard to avoid hearing the healer's name ever since she lost her wing. But why was she thinking about this Vanya if she had Alucio trying to apologising to her. She should be listening. But he didn't deserve her listening. He had left her. He had left her alone for weeks. Once again her glare hardened into stone and stared at him icily.
Alucio's next speech caused a flurry of confusion and mixed feelings in Hawk. She felt elated, with her heart fluttering like a butterfly, but so very pissed off. He always had been interested in her. Even when she cringed whenever she thought about the impossibility of him liking her. But his duties stopped him from visiting her. Incredulously, she shook her head. At least he admitted that it was not an excuse. Really? Ahote was a Drott of the Enclave but that didn't stop him from spending all of his time with females. Hell, he even visited Hawk; she didn't mean anything to him, but he still cared enough to check on her. If she was right, Skoll was only a rank lower than Drott, so if Ahote could do it, so could Alucio. "Ahote had time to drop in and talk with me and he's the Drott." There was a faint traces of a snarl in Hawk's voice and her lips stretched into a twisted smile with no hint of amusement, "And you tell me your Skoll duties had prevented you from coming to see me." Although her lips was curled into a wry smile, her golden gaze remained stone hard.
His last addition of her being still beautiful. Normally if she was in a good mood, she would creep forwards to give him a tentative lick. But today she wasn't in an excellent mood. Still? Still? Did Alucio view her as an invalid? As an one-winged keiyou? It was like saying to a wolf with three legs still beautiful. One eyed wolf still beautiful. Her hackles rose and her ears flattened back. This was not what she wanted to be. To be seen because of her one wing. He could have said "you are beautiful." but he didn't. He added the word: "still". "Oh thanks! That's just what I wanted. To be still beautiful." Hawk's voice was thick with anger and hurt. Again she knew Alucio meant to be nice, but it wrenched her heart. |

Alucio didn't know what to say to her, what words to formulate in his head to speak so that he would not offend her. He had never been through something like this, to have suffered through watching someone be attacked and nearly die. His adoptive mother had just...up and went. He couldn't have done anything and she had known it was coming. He had never wanted to accept it, just as he had never wanted to accept the fact that Hawk would possibly die, especially after an attack like that. A Gryphon....he had a vendetta against them now, officially finding himself with such a hatred that it could probably light something on fire if he wasn't careful. His emotions in general were a jumbled mess and, to be completely honest, he had no idea what to do or what to say to make her see that he had always cared and would always care. His mother had been right when she had told him his ways with women were awkward, but at least he tried.
But am I trying hard enough...?
His wings shuffled uneasily at her words and her gaze, something he found so absolutely entrancing about her that it was often hard to focus on the situation. His heart ached, though. He never wanted to lose her, to see her in that position. The only bad things he had ever suffered through in his life was the loss of his mother and learning that he was abandoned by his birth mother. It had broken him to know that he was unloved and unwanted by that female, and that she had just disappeared. That was his thoughts. Rylee had told him to think differently, but had never given him any reason to do so, never gave him a separate subject to think about. It had hurt him, because he just didn't know nor did he even understand. That was simple compared to this. He didn't know how to react. His mind was in a whirlwind he couldn't seem to straighten himself out of, one thought flying into another and creating a collision that caused only more pain.
Ahote had dropped in. Of course he had. What else could he expect of the Alpha male? He made sure to do that, since the entirety of the females in this pack seemed to be either his harem or his immediate family. However, he wasn't an Alpha. This wasn't something he had done. He was as new to this as the next person. Often times, he wondered why Ahote had chosen him to take a second in command position, when he had no experience and was completely different than him and Duchan. Alucio opened his mouth a small ways, searching for the words as his ears flattened further against his skull, "I...have no words, I really don't. All I can tell you is that it was my way of praying you would survive. The last time I was near someone that I cared about, she died." He spoke of Rylee, the female that had taken him as her son. He had felt responsible for her death, though it was entirely of natural causes. However, whenever he had been near to her, there had always been something wrong and he had noticed that. It had broken him. "I thought if I stayed away, then you would survive. I have always cared, Hawk. Whether you want to believe it or not, that was my way of showing it..."
Perhaps he should have worded his sentence differently. Still was not something he believed would affect her so much, and when she snapped back at him for it, he felt his chest puff up and he straightened his back in a dominant fashion. "All I want is your forgiveness and your love. I was trying to give you a compliment because I was under the impression that you had emotionally succumbed to all of the whispers of the other pack members. I don't care how much you say you don't care what others think, but in my personal experience, anyone who says that does not truly mean it. I was trying to be courteous. You are beautiful, missing wing included." He stared her down, not blinking or flinching in his stance. While he cared for the female, he refused to be berated, even if it wasn't right out there in his face. He was not stupid. He just wanted her to know he cared, that he loved her and that he didn't want to have her hate him. However, he felt guilty for snapping. His tone had been gentle and calm, but there was a firmness to it to show he wouldn't necessarily be put down or rejected by something he intended as a compliment.
"I'm sorry, Hawk, if I came off as snippy." Alucio still offered an apology. In every sense, he was still the easy-going and well-mannered male most knew him as.
