The humidity was killing her - Mana lay in a shallow puddle she dropped into when she lost her back legs to her dolphin's tail. She wriggled and wraggled, flapped her fins to get herself deeper into the water, but a few pesky rocks raked on her posterior. Her forelegs strained, pulling her inches with each tug. Frustrated she let go of herself and flopped onto her back, letting her nose sink under the water, breathing there. The water tasted awful - grains of mud found its way into her parted jaws, swirling around in the chamber, cuddling onto her velvety tongue. it tasted so thick, so heavy. her black eyelids parted, showing her golden eyes. A lot of what she saw was brown - the gnarled roots of trees, anchoring the tall body underwater, tiny, half-dead fish fluttering around, the floor of dust.
The she-cael lay like this for a while - the brown water covered her wolf half, leaving her fish-like tail end open to attack. Perhaps a wolf - or another dangerous predator, though she didn't think of it - would see her as prey. She laughed at the look on the face of a a hungry wolf's face if suddenly the already-dead, massive fish they spotted for a one-in-a-million meal at the swamp was alive with the head of a wolf. She decided she would lay there, as if in wait for someone so hungry to scare. It'd be a good pastime, to say the least, once someone arrived, and maybe she stood the chance of making a friend after they calmed down a bit. Waiting would be the problem though, and her scales could dry up and become uncomfortable to host. Throwing away the bad thoughts, she stayed still. If anything, it was relaxing and calming, and it wasn't like she had anything else to do, anyone to see or a place she called home to visit. So she opened her eyes again and watched the scared, half-dead fish that swam around this contaminated water, their eyes wary of her. They didn't seem to be too fond of the deep end either. Poor creatures, Mana thought quietly to herself as she observed their endless journey; round and around they swam, without fail, They live in fear all the time, for everything is larger than they, and they cannot remember anything but each others faces. If that. What comforts them?

Rorschach didn't know how he ended up here in this godforsaken place, but he didn't know much of anything anymore. Ever since his little half-brother had left him, he was lost. All this years, he had thought that he was the one keeping Liev together, but as it turned out, it was the other way around. Without him, Rory was lost.
The black mud made of decayed leaves stank to the high heavens, and caked his snowy white pelt. His appearance had taken a turn for the worst, tufts of fur sticking up every which way, with streaks of mud, blood, and god knows what else smeared across his body. He was desperately trying to any sign of his brother.
He heard a rustling somewhere off to his left, water splashed, and the squelching of mud. His curiosity piqued, he made his way toward the noise, sticking and unsticking his paws in the putrid mud.
He came across a Cael trapped in some mud. His mismatched blue eyes widened in surprise to see a Cael in such filthy water. "A-are you okay, M'dear?" He asked, when she so obviously was not. But he didn't want to go rushing to her, when they were strangers.

Just as she rested her head down, a voice came to her, asking if she was okay. Well, that was her plan out of the window for scaring a wolf - her absolute fail made her giggle slightly. She was seen, time to come out of hiding.
Sun-kissed droplets of murky swamp water dropped from the jaw of the sea-canine. The corners of her lips stretched out, parting from each other to reveal small, pearly teeth and the tip of a pink tongue. before her was a white winged wolf, with an oddly thin tail. Mana wasn't aware of the proper names for any specie, so she simply named them as she went along and bumped into new types. This one was a sky-swimmer. Some fish in cleaner waters also had wings, and could swim in both water and the air - Mana envied them for their multiple abilities. Blinking excess mud particles from her eyes, she replied to this peculiar looking wolf. "No worries, I'm fine. A bit of a struggle to get to the deeper end though - I was just having a rest." Flashing a polite smile, Mana shifted again, trying to get some more water on her fins. There was no point trying to dry off - it was so humid off the water that she'd still have troubles walking, for her back legs wouldn't stretch very far apart. "Sometimes it's a bit of a pain when you're trying to avoid water, or when it rains, or if you step in a shallow puddle, when there's no deep water nearby," she chuckled, offering conversation to Rory.

An animal in distress, that what the splashes and sloshes that carried through the water told Soubek. And as soon as he heard them, he wanted to help it. The reptilian-tailed Cael had been doing nothing with his day, other than combing the littered bottom of the swamp, searching for something, anything, interesting hidden in the muck or drowned trees and branches. Interrupted by what sounded like an animal drowning, Soubek quickly made his way to its source. He pawed his way between the submerged roots of the giant trees as his tail propelled him forward as fast as it could. Soubek was, however, disappointed to find that it was another wolf in distress, and not a stray animal. Not that he wanted an animal to be found drowning, not that at all; Soubek was merely shy, and much preferred animals who could not speak, to other wolves who could. The wolf was not drowning, but he was confused as to what it was attempting to accomplish. Carefully and steadily, Soubek lifted just enough of his face to the surface, so that he could smell and see. A female Cael…hardly in danger of drowning.
He watched unmoving as she struggled a bit more, before finally appearing to give up and flop down. Being of the same species, Soubek understood her frustration, but at the same time he had no sympathy for her, why would she leave the water in the first place, especially here where a Cael wouldn’t keep its legs for more than a few seconds? He was beginning to become uninterested in watching her, but his ears picked the sound of another out in the distance. It was always easy for him to her the movement of animals and others on land, Soubek always wondered how land-wolves could find food and stay hidden from predators if their footsteps were always so loud. Fins and tails in water didn’t make nearly as much noise. He watched the two strangers converse from a distance, wondering perhaps if he was discovered eavesdropping it was cause them to begin an angry brouhaha that would attract others. The thought scared him, terrified him actually…but he still wanted to watch. Hope I’m not interrupting! : ]
