Never before had she made such a stupid mistake. Not in all her 24 years of life. She'd always been so careful. So careful not do... well, this sort of stupid idiocy! Why now, you say? Her judgment must be slipping. Waning with the thoughts of warmth and summer.
Morningstar had just been wandering around. She knew it was a pack territory, but she couldn't bring herself to care at the moment. Sometimes, a Sennyo just wants to see a beach, y'know? Ah, but then she'd spotted the island, and the sandbar that reached out to it. Trouble was, it was a bit later in the day, and a few minutes after she'd lightly stepped to the island, the female had found herself stranded. The tide rolls in fast, it seems.
And now, it looked like a distant storm was rolling in. The sky was dark with clouds on the horizon, blocking good portions of the sun's light. And the wind was blowing; violently. The waves were getting higher and higher. Morningstar didn't want to be stuck out here all night with rain. She padded back to the end of the island and looked at the distance to the shore. It didn't look that far, maybe a dozen yards. None the less, Morningstar wasn't so good a swimmer in the first place, and this would be suicide.
But another thought of spending a lonely night out in the open on the small island made up her mind. She'd swim back to shore or die trying. She just hoped her wings wouldn't get torn. With a huff of air, she began her descent from the island into the water. It wasn't so bad at first. As long as she could still touch the bottom, and she'd slowly take it. Yes, almost there and...
"Achk!
A wave had crashed over her head and sent her tumbling into the point of no return. She came up for air, gasping and pawing frantically. There was the shore! Just had to make it! As she paddled though, things only seemed to get farther away. Was she even making any progress? Morningstar didn't know anymore, and exhaustion was quickly setting in. But then another large wave came tumbling down and washed her under. The Sennyo managed to claw her way back to the surface, only to see she was no longer facing land.
Where was it? Where was she? Turning her head, she saw nothing and she couldn't seem to turn around. It was then that she realized she was being carried farther out to sea. The violent sea where the waves were even bigger. "Help..." She called out weakly, doubtful that anyone would hear over the roar of the waves. She suddenly wished Erredor was here, even if he couldn't physically help her. Perhaps he would take her soul to the dream realm where she could live in peace forever... Even though a part of her knew that was impossible. Her eyes began to droop, and her paw paddles became even weaker. She was dimly sure she was going to drown.
