Toby seemed happy with his promotion. Patrician… It was a respectable rank. In his old pack, most wolves lined up for the votes were Patricians before they became the head of the pack. The Consuls, the Aediles, the Quaestors, and all. Fyodor knew that probably, one day, Tobias might get one of those respectable ranks. He relaxed a bit, feeling that the storm was over. The pups were out and Keely was still alive.
And it wasn’t long before she woke up. Her eyelashes flickered and she seemed groggy and sick. Fyodor was instantly worried. He came close to her and moved the jackalope out of the way, seeing that she wasn’t ready to eat it just yet. He nudged her empty stomach, “L-L-Look, Keels, y-you are yourself… uh, ag-g-gain.” He smiled upon the pups. “You r-r-rrrr-really earned them. I love y-y… uh… you”
But then, Keely’s other brother came. It put Fyodor on edge a little. Even though he and Obi were on good terms, he couldn’t help but go back to that first day and the first impression. He watched meek and quietly, but all in all with keen anxiety. It felt like a cold knife in his heart. What would Obi think?
Keely’s pups were simply Lyxxi. They seemed not to inherit any of their parents’ faults and Fyodor hoped that they were simply the best of both of them because the birth, though dangerous and nerve-racking, seemed to go without a hitch. There weren’t any horribly deformed puppies. There weren’t any stillborns. The litter wasn’t incredibly huge, though to little Keely, it probably felt that way. All in all, Fyodor was happy with the results. He wondered if Obi knew all the troubles these pups were worth. But then, the Centurion made his approval and Fyodor couldn’t help but smile. He jut his chest out and lifted his chin just a little bit. He remained silent though because he knew nothing could destroy his façade of strength and pride like his stutter.
The fact that Obi accepted the pups so easily made Fyodor’s feelings grow more fraternal. He was willing to accept this brother-in-law. “Mine and h-h-hhhers.” He forced the last word out, but continued. “I.. uh… I um.. I think th-that they are f-f-fffff… f-ffff… fuh-fine. Just sleeping.” He nuzzled the puppies with his pink nose. He felt friendly with Obi now.

He smiled as Keely rejoined the waking world. His heart sank a little when she refused to eat, but he knew better than to take it personally. She simply wasn’t ready to eat yet. When she was ready it would be there for her. He had still helped her in a small way.
When Obi entered, Tobias tensed a little. It was an almost involuntary reaction to the presence of his brothers. He saw his own quite anxiety reflected on Fyodor and felt a little better. At least he wasn’t the only one who Obi made nervous. He was sure it was for completely unrelated reasons, but it still helped put him more at ease. And he reminded himself that this time he had arrived first. He had shared a moment in Keely’s life that the others had missed, and he had helped her mate through it as best he could. He knew it was a wee bit selfish to think that way, but he needed a little bit of selfish pride to help build up his confidence. And for once he felt he had done something that his brother’s couldn’t outshine.
“They’ve had a busy day,” he said with a small smile. “And so has their mother. You should have seen her, Obi. Our little Keely was so brave and strong for her pups. Mother and Father will be so proud of you,” he told her, his amethyst eyes shining brightly.

She gave a weak smile to Fyodor and nuzzled into his warm fur for comfort. She really just wanted to sleep, but she could not bring herself to lay back down. She looked down at the slumbering pair.
Keely was a bit surprised and startled when Obi rushed in. Her little jump made one of the pups wake up and begin to whine and mewl. She looked up at Obi, a slight smile still as weak as before. "Obi..." Her ears twitched toward Tobias, she was glad that their parents would be proud. "Thank you, Toby..."Then the gears in her head began to turn. She looked down at the wriggling pups.
"Fyodor...we need names" Her usual spunk was muted, but the spark was coming back to her eyes. Her tails wavered, her family was here. It made her happy. Now the little pup had awoke its sibling. Both began mewling and kicking at one another. Keely looked down at them, still amazed that they were not long ago struggling to get out of her.

Obi leaned down and licked Keely's head. Her sister had done very well. Obi's eyes never left the pups.
Pups! Obi absolutely loved pups. His mind soared with ideas of playing with them when they got older. The pups were already playing with each other. Obi walked around Keely and sat down at a close but respectable distance from the pups.
Obi finally pryed his eyes off the pups to look at Toby and Fyodor and flash a toothy smile.
"Their wonderful!" Obi almost laughed. He was so happy. Even in his old pack he loved pups. Just seeing such newborns excited him.
"What are you going to name them?" Obi asked almost the exact same time as Keely.

Names. Fyodor scrambled to find names. He tried to find anything that would both suit the pups and please his mate. He looked at his firstborn son with eyes that expected a name to jump out at him. Oh, and what if he messed up the name? What if he suggested a name and fudged it up so bad that the pup was stuck with a rejected word, born from his stutter? Fyodor became tense and anxious and it showed.
His ears were held slightly back, their tufted ends kissing the back of his head. His eyes seemed worried, the brows wrinkled with self-doubt. His pink nose sniffed, as if tracking for the name. His tongue came out in a flicker that licked his pink nose in a nervous gesture. But he knew that Keely and both of her brothers expected her to come up with something. Some sort of name. And he thought back to his packlife.
There were few wolves who were kind to him after his leg had stopped growing. At first, it was an imbalanced look, but in his adult life, it was completely noticeable and to those who didn’t know him, slightly disturbing or at least curious to look at. Fyodor tried to think of a wolf whom he admired, but he could only think of his father. He erased that though, “H..” He was almost going to say something. He felt committed to that letter and continued. “Henri.” He smiled. It was a good strong name. But it was plain—something that Fyodor thought would promise normalcy. He didn’t want the pup to end up anything like him. The fact that his son took after his mother made Fyodor love him instantly. And his daughter, he loved her just the same because he loved both of his pups.
“H-Henri, yes, Henri.” Fyodor smiled and his paternal pride made him glow. “Y-y-you can n-nnn-n-name the daught-t-ter, Keels.”

Her ears flickered with keen interest at her mate's words, though few. She played with the name on her tongue. It made her smile come more alive as she looked up at him, there was something about the 'y' sound at the end of names that made her happy. That and Fyodor. He always made her happy too. Her sporadic thoughts were returning, she was slowly recovering. Though it would take a few days for her to completely bounce back.
She looked down at her daughter, her eyes filled with those joyful tears again. She loved being a mother already, and it had not even been a day. She contemplated a few names in her mind. Then, it hit her, "Mim...Mimzy..?" She looked up at Fyodor for reassurance. Was it a good name? She liked Henri, and she felt that Mimzy was cute.
She reached down and nuzzled the squabbling pups, trying to make them go back to sleep, or eat, she was not sure what they wanted. They were not crying....so maybe they just wanted to play? Her tails tapped the ground happily.
