Elpidia was resting peaceably with her pups suckling tenderly at her stomach. They had no reason to eat because they were Harbingers, but it seemed to bring some calm to them and it was a necessary calm. The tired mother looked to the dream-sky, the scape of it dazzling with aurora lights despite the fact she was nesting herself by the sea. There were such grand things that wolves imagined. And when the whole of wolfkind pleaded to see the Northern Lights, then Elpidia got to see what they were missing out on.
She lovingly looked on over the five pups who suckled at her teats. Softly, she nuzzled each one. Oh, she did miss being a mother. However, she wondered the reason why everyone called a newborn and infant—without a voice—they seemed to be quite the noisy bunch as they mewed and cried for attention. Their eyes had opened as well as their ears. Elpidia only waited for their minds to clear and for them to realize the poor luck they had been born into. A Harbinger is a creature of woe. Even if she saw the dreamer’s dreams… she lived in what they would most likely perceive to be a nightmare.
She paced an almost empty world, chasing voices, chasing abstract thoughts. And, in the end, it was likely to do nothing. She had found solace in the Kingdom by the beach, comfortably finding herself safe inside the mind of an Alpha. He had invited her in and it gave her promise for existence. Whenever she was weak or needed assurance that she did exist, she only needed to go there. But for now, it took everything to move her pups. She had to wait until they could clumsily walk behind her before she could return.
And when most females felt their strongest—when extra lives depended on them—Elpidia felt her weakest. Without a soul to speak to, she couldn’t define herself as ‘I’.
How can you say ‘I” without “you” or “it”?
In the end, “I” is only opposite the rest of the world and because of that, Elpidia couldn’t’ exist for herself. And neither could her pups. For now, their relationship together in this lonely world was the only thing defining them as wolves.

Malrook opened his eyes and yawned. It was late at night and his sister was sleeping soundly. The Myou turned around and gazed at his sister. She was a pretty swan Myou and had an elegant and delicate look about her. He let out a little sigh then bent over his sister and nuzzled her then turned around and started trotting off in to the distance looking for something to eat.
Malrook padded along the shoreline them took in a deep breath. Many smells flooded his seances, and one of them was jackalope. He quickly saw the creature and started stalking it then lunged at just the right moment. He quickly killed it and rapidly ate some of it then picked up the other half and took it over to his sister. He dropped it next to her then nudged her and barked, "Mar! Wake up!" Mar raised her sleepy head then saw the prey and barked, "Thanks." Malrook smiled then barked, "I'll be right back, okay?" With that he turned around and trotted along the shoreline.
Suddenly Malrook felt like someone else was there, for Malrook and his sister believed in Harbringers. He glanced around and barked, "Whos there?"

Something always interesting about the Myou species was that they seemed more willing to accept a Harbinger. It was as if the fact that they were twin-souled made them more susceptible to the idea that a wolf can exist solely in the realm of ideas.
And without nothing to push him, he asked her, ”Who’s there? It made her feel warm inside. Her bright blue furs burst into nothing more than shine. Her mouth opened and rays escaped her maw. She then proceeded to speak—feeling like a goddess.
The mother Harbinger shut her eyes and asked him, in her lovely Latin, “Sum nemo si me no cupes.” She smiled. “But if you do want me, I’m Elpidia.”
It was always good to put it into a wolf’s head that he wanted her. It was always good for them to think that they needed her rather than she needed them. Or that they just wanted her company.
“Solus…” She smiled. “Have you ever been so alone with a sister by your side?” The Harbinger knew of the wolf’s sister because she could feel that there was another Myou not far off—a female and she naturally assumed.
Elpidia softly touched her sleeping pups and stood up gently. “Sum nova mater…” I am a new mother… She glanced to her pups. “You will help me?” And she gave a sigh. She only wanted to somehow make it into Rostyn’s pack again. She was so close… yet so far away. She couldn’t move as freely with her pups needing her company. And she felt it foolish that she should ask a common wolf for help. But sometimes, such things are necessary.
