A pleasant stillness and silence, quickly broken by a dark crimson blur as it sped through the trees, dodging between tree trunks rather than taking the obvious clear path not so far away. He suddenly found himself laughing to the trees and the mountains visible in front of him, his tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth from the exertion of running, the wind whipping his shaggy fur against his body as he just ran and ran with no particular destination in mind. Of all the environments he had travelled through since he had begun Walkabout, this was his favourites. Plenty of cover in the trees and some small caves, but not too much that it gets in the way, he nodded to himself satisfactorily.
I haven’t felt this free since Solenne and I- Suddenly he stopped in his tracks, unable to finish his thought as it slapped him back to reality as clearly as if he’d ran straight into a tree. Leaving long furrows in the soil as he skidded to a halt, the wolf sat back on his haunches and allowed his head to fall forwards as a single tear escaped his good eye and slowly made its way down to his nose. Swiping angrily at the rogue tear with a paw, the gentle breeze blew through the area once more, but this time passing an unfamiliar scent past his nostrils for the briefest of moments, and he became aware of a presence an overgrown patch of greenery to his right.
Swearing to himself for his softness and lack of attention to his surroundings, he sniffed the air tentatively. The scent was gone with the breeze, and he couldn’t identify what the presence was, but he knew it was there. It was also good at staying hidden and quiet. Listening quietly for a moment, the sounds of running water nearby whispered to his ears. He stood up and padded softly towards the source. As he approached the edge of the spring, he sat back on his haunches and dipped his head to lap at the fresh, freezing cold water, straining his ears to listen for signs of movement.
And so he sat there quietly staring at his reflection in the water as he refreshed himself, a reflection so clear it could have been another wolf staring back at him. You’re getting soft, you idiot. You should have noticed someone there far sooner. Remember the last time you were that stupid and careless? He shook off the voice in his head; berating himself wasn’t going to help now. Keeping his ears alert, he acted as casually as he could manage, continuing to lap at the water while he tensed himself and readied his Dash in preparation for whatever was about to unfold.
[OOC: Sorry for the lack of quality here, I can't seem to get this quite right no matter how many times I re-write it >.<]

A small auburn Keiyou glided above the mountains. Her raptor wings shifted in the warm summer air, bringing her a bit lower. She was tired of traveling and the familiar pangs of hunger had begun to creep upon her. She breathed in the scent of this new place, these unfamiliar lands. Her powder blue eyes looked below for a decent place to land. She spied a small clearing next to a little sping and began her steady descent.
Bara landed carefully and folded her red tailed hawk wings over her back. She slowly walked toward the stream keeping careful control of her movements. As she lapped up the cool water her ears twitched from sound to sound nearby. She had no idea of the dangers here and didn’t want to be caught off guard. Once she had had her fill she straightened up and shook the water from her white muzzle.
She gazed about her, taking in the close up of what she had already seen from above. Many of the plants here were strange and new. There were a plethora of smells that she could not identify. She was starting over again. This land seemed to be thriving. Perhaps she could find a pack that would take her in, one that she could learn from, one that would understand and put up with her unique situation. And if she didn’t she supposed she could move on again. That had been the plan so far. And so far it had been adequate.
Bara only barely remembered what having a proper home and family had been like, so she wasn’t really unhappy with her current situation. She simply felt that there had to be something more, something she was missing out on. And she hoped that maybe this would be where she would find it.

For one of the few times in Ulyxes' life, he had slept a normal schedule. Falling asleep at close to midnight, he had closed his eyes and rested peacefully in the caves that night. The sound of the pups heavy, rhythmic breathing had put him to sleep quite easily. They were in a small tunneled den away from where he was, but even still his ears picked up the minute puppy noises they made. He woke early that morning though, before the rest of the pack. Stretching out his bulky body, he walked slowly out of the caves. His jaw stretched open in a yawn, revealing pearly white tea and a curling pink tongue. He clamped his mouth shut after a few moments, stepping out into the cold. His down and undercoat kept him warm, and he winced his eyes slightly to guard them from the wind.
He walked outside a few more paces before stretching out his wings. They spanned out above him, and after giving them a few strong flaps, he picked himself up into the air and soared into the skies. The wind up here was stronger, and he had to pay quite a bit of attention to make sure he wasn't uprooted by it. Scowling at the snow flakes falling down, he finally landed near the spring. He stopped by its banks for a few moments, finally dipping his head down to lap up a few mouthfuls of water before lifting his head and sniffing the air. His nostrils flared, filling with the scent of another wolf. Scowling, he looked side to side, finally seeing a large patch of brush. He made his way towards it, his eyes narrowed very slightly.
After settling himself down behind the bush, he waited. The scent of the other was blowing in his direction and it was getting stronger - he was coming towards them. Finally a wolf came into sight, skidding to a halt. Had he smelled him? Ulyxes watched with large, sapphire eyes, his wings folded against his back. He didn't realise it but his hackles were raised, his muscles taut and ready to spring. He couldn't tell if the male knew he was there or not. He'd reveal himself on his own time.
Then another form dropped in, diving from the sky. Ulyxes almost growled - lovely. Two loners and himself. This new loner looked small though, and was clearly female. It might not be too bad a fight. Either way, he'd have the terrain on his side. With that, he let a growl begin from his throat, and he stood up from his crouched position. His muscles were still tensed, and his neck protected with his head, just in case.
"Are you aware that you are trespassing?" he said, his voice a low rumble. He wasn't trying to sound aggressive, more protective. If the loners were intent on joining the pack, he could take them to Eru and she could decide if they were worthy enough to join. But if they meant the pack any harm, Ulyxes wouldn't hesitate to slow them down.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/Tye-Lily/Comissions/skyheartbg.png] “Are you aware that you are trespassing?” The unexpectedly deep voice almost made the crimson wolf jump out of his fur. Skyheart was almost certain the scent he smelled was female. Lifting his muzzle from the water, he turns his head slightly to steal a glance behind him, he stared at the large male wolf standing behind him, obviously the wolf he had heard in the bushes. Skyheart stood and turned around to face this new wolf, but placed his rump back onto the ground; he knew better than to act defensively or aggressively around a larger wolf than he. At least, not until he knew what he was up against. He looked around for signs of another wolf, but failed, having never been able to take his attention wholly from a potential threat.
The confirmation that this was pack territory made Skyheart frown to himself. He had made it a purpose to avoid pack territory for the last two years, going so far as to take the additional time to skirt around it when he came across a pack. That’s what, three mistakes already, and it’s only morning. Forgetting his situation momentarily, he started to growl, quietening the voice of his old trainer. Looking back at the wolf opposite him though, he quickly cut himself off. Personally I think you’re losing your marbles…
Dipping his head in a nod to the other wolf – a silent but clear greeting from his homeland – Skyheart then narrowed his eyes as he took in the details of the other wolf’s body – the coffee brown and cream fur, his bulky form, and his impressive wings. He also took a tentative sniff, trying to catch the wolf’s scent. Well, he’s definitely male. Unless… “You’re definitely male, right?” Skyheart asked, cocking his right eyebrow, in his classic English accent. Without waiting for a response, realising how odd the question was with a slight shake of his head, Skyheart continued. “I didn’t realise this place was spoken for. I’m just passing through. I’ll leave if you wish it.”

Bara tensed at the low growl from nearby. Not only had she been caught off guard, but she had apparently made someone very angry. Her first instinct was to run. To take wing and flee into the air and away from the threat. But she knew she was never going to find a pack that way. She needed to be strong and not run away. At least until there was no other option.
She listened hard to the voice, trying to make sense of the unfamiliar language. She understood a few of the words, but they were thrown together with ones she didn’t know resulting in a jumble that held no meaning for her. The tone of his voice spoke well though, and she knew that he was not pleased. She repeated the most troublesome word to herself quietly, trying it out in her mouth, though it came out in rough syllables, “Tres-pass-ing.”
But then another voice jumped in and Bara realized just how little attention she must have been paying. She had to work on that. She couldn’t afford to be this unaware. But perhaps the first voice wasn’t speaking to her at all. It had said “you” so maybe this other was the you that it referred to? Maybe she really hadn’t done anything wrong. Unfortunately these thoughts blocked out most of her listening and she missed most of what the second voice said. She scolded herself, that might have been important. Or at least useful to understanding what was going on.
Now she had two choices. Try to sneak away and assume that the two were as unaware of her as she had been of them, or to make herself known to the others and muddle her way through that. And since she understood so little of what had already been said the former was winning. The voices were coming from the other side of the brush at the edge of the clearing. She thought she could see movement in the brush, so they were very close. If she could make it to the other side of the clearing she could probably take flight without being noticed. Maybe. She was small after all. She tried to get low to the ground and her ears were tucked flat. She cautioned herself to go slowly, she knew haste would likely lead to tripping and falling and unwanted attention. Shyly she began to creep away.

It looked as if Ulyxes had almost frightened the male before him, but he couldn't exactly be sure. It took a few moments for the male to finally lift his head and turn, but finally he did. Watching him pivot and turn to face him, Ulyxes raised his tail high behind his body in a display of dominance, watching the male plop himself onto the ground. Well, at least he wasn't going to be a threat. Ulyxes loosened his muscles, staring at the loner with bright blue eyes.
He watched the wolf dip his head in greeting, and he returned the gesture. His wings were folded neatly on his back, but if he needed to he would take flight. He just stood there, waiting for the male to reply. There was no rush, really. He couldn't exactly tell what the male before him was thinking until he opened his mouth. Was he male? That was kind of a... strange question. Ulyxes' brow furrowed slightly and he tilted his head.
"Uh, I am most definitely a male," he replied, his voice still deep, but with a slight air of uneasiness behind it. The male before him had a strange voice, and yet, to another person, it was not unlike his own. Even though he had left the brush, there was only the male before him, and not the female whose scent he had picked up earlier. Hiding? Probably. Ulyxes sighed, half wondering whether he should try to find her.
"If you mean no harm, I don't see why you would need to rush out so swiftly. But do be warned, if you harm any of my pack members, I will find you, and I will tear your throat out," he replied, his words, especially at the end quite serious. He gave his head a shake, exhaling slowly, and then turned back to the male. "My name is Ulyxes, and myself, along with Erulassé are the alphas of these lands. If you wish the join the pack, you will be welcome with open arms. If not, I can allow you to stay for a few nights. You don't seem to be too big a threat... though right now my attention is quite divided. Is it just me, or did you smell another wolf around here?" he asked, his eyes scanning the bushes around the lake. He could have sworn he smelt another wolf there.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/Tye-Lily/Comissions/skyheartbg.png] Skyheart frowned slightly and found himself examining his paws. Joining a pack? The thought of joining another pack hadn’t even entered his mind. Raising his rump, he began to pace to and fro in front of the other wolf, oblivious to his presence for a moment. Now that he was thinking about it, though, it had been a long time since he’d been in any real company other than his own. Was he even ready? How would others react to him? How would he react to them? Did he even remember how to act around others? Shaking his head, he jumbled up the barrage of questions and shoved them to the back of his mind. Skyheart stopped his pacing and turned his head towards Ulyxes.
“My apologies, it’s been a long time since I’ve had to consider other wolves. You tend to avoid others company on Walkabout,” Skyheart said quietly, the thought of pack life dredging up memories he had tried so hard to bury. “I have to admit though,” he continued, a little more confidently, his regular façade of confidence returning in small leaps, “that it’s definitely tempting after all this time alone… I apologise again, I must come across somewhat… loopy. As I said – long time since I’ve had to talk to someone other than myself. Well… not that I talk to myself, I just-” Skyheart stopped himself. Why was he rambling like an idiot? “Actually, never mind.”
Skyheart trotted back to his original position by the spring and turned to the water, lapping up several more gulps of fresh water before he turned back to Ulyxes. “Alright, let’s go to this pack of yours. It should be an… interesting experience. My name is Skyheart, by the way. Ibram Skyheart. It’s a pleasure to meet you Ulyxes.” Skyheart dipped his head again but froze just as a breeze blew a familiar scent across his nostrils.
“By the way, I don’t suppose when you got here you smelled something, or someone… else?” Skyheart started to move towards Ulyxes, slowly, so as not to alarm the larger, stronger looking wolf. Or maybe it was just the wings which made Skyheart want to be on his good side, or maybe it was just the way Ulyxes looked at him as if he knew Skyheart would be a jumble of body parts before he could say “My, what sharp teeth you have”. He stopped as his muzzle was on level with Ulyxes ear, and spoke in a low whisper. “Smell that? Off to the left, behind the scrub.” Skyheart’s eyes darted in that direction as he caught movement from the corner of his eye, the scar bisecting his left eye twitching at the sudden movement. Slowly, Skyheart turned towards the movement and started to move as casually as he could in that general direction, as if to leave the area entirely.

It was hard to sneak and listen at the same time. And as much as Bara wanted to disappear, she was also curious about what the two were saying. And so she found herself pausing to listen to the strange language the two were speaking, her pace slowed to a crawl. She understood that the first wolf had introduced himself with his strange foreign name. She had caught “alpha” and “join the pack” and he sounded fairly genuine and welcoming. But she had also caught the phrase “tear your throat out.” The pups she had learned it from had said it in anger and jest, but this wolf was powerful enough to probably mean it and he had said it very seriously.
The second wolf was much harder for her to understand. Why did he have to speak so fast? If she was paying more attention she could probably have made some sense of it, but as it was her brain felt muddled and confused. She finally caught “let’s go” which might mean that the others were leaving. And another introduction. Sky heart. She knew both of those words, and it made her smile to herself. I have a sky heart too, she thought looking up to the blue sky above and thinking of the wonder of flying. It was a very strong name.
Smell. There was that word again. The first wolf had said it too. It was familiar. I know this one, I know this one, she thought hard trying to draw the meaning from her mind. What did it mean? Smell meant….Yes! Her mind made the connection and cheered triumphantly. But wait…that means they smell…me? Uh oh.
Feeling she had overstayed her welcome she moved quickly, too quickly in fact. For while her mind had been busy translating her big feet had gotten all tangled up. She tripped and rolled from her hiding place ending up on her back looking upside down at the two other wolves. She felt a flush of embarrassment creep over her. She swallowed nervously trying to fight the overwhelming mortification. “Eto… Hello. I am Bara. N-Nice to meet you,” she stumbled through the standard greeting she had learned though her stress and rhythm were strange. She wanted to say something else, something to explain or defend herself, anything at all, but she couldn’t find the words. So instead she said the safest thing she knew, “Sorry.” Her voice was a nervous squeak as her gaze leapt between the two males. Which had mentioned throat tearing again?

This male seemed very shy... almost sheepish. When he spoke though, it cleared this all up. He hadn't been around wolves in a while? That explained it. Ulyxes merely nodded as he paced, finding it odd, but understanding at the same time. Though when Skyheart mentioned Walkabout Ulyxes's brow shot up a bit, questioning the term. He didn't ask though and waited for him to finish his thoughts. He seemed to ramble a lot, and Ulyxes tried to keep up with his thoughts, but eventually just ended up staring blankly at him. "Well... either way you're welcome to join us. Perhaps it might do you some good," he replied, padding beside him as he walked to the water and drank. His tail was still held high and he nodded again as Skyheart introduced himself.
"The pleasure is all mine, Skyheart," he said, not catching the scent until after his new companion had. Ulyxes's nostrils twitched and he nodded. "I smelt something. Perhaps that's why you thought I was female?" His wings ruffled for a moment and his body tensed. He hissed a reply, merely saying yes, his hackles rising, as his eyes veered towards the shrub. The other male took off slowly in that direction, and so Ulyxes circled around, coming at the shrub from the opposite direction. This way the intruder would have only two ways to go, and either way he could use his wings to follow her.
Then suddenly the intruder tripped, giving away her position, and rolled out onto her back. Ulyxes immediately tensed, snarling loudly, and pounced towards her, landing close to her body and shoving his face down. She spoke before he could get a word out. Her voice was hard to understand as she spoke, and he relaxed slightly as she did so. She was obviously no threat. Sighing he backed off, staring at Skyheart for a moment and then back at the female who had introduced herself as Bara.
"What are you doing here Bara? And why were you hiding?"
