BlazingTear, A fiery name in all itself. Her small body rested in the tall grasses of the prairie, almost blending in with the yellow grasses. Ears perked forward, listening to the unfamiliar sounds of a new territory she would hope to soon call a permanent home. Her past had been bleak, the scars on her face showing the struggle. Alone since she was a pup, she enjoyed the solace once and a while though always yearned for company whether she truly welcomed it or not.
Her feathery wings rested lazily at her sides. The orangey red of her dominant fur color mixing along with the strange yellows that adored her elsewhere as well, made it seem as if her wings were made of fire though they were truly soft and full of power as they carried her in the winds of the skies above. All four paws, which were also colored in the strange yellows were out in front of her, one bent beneath her chest slightly. It was a lazy day, which is how she spent most of her time when she wasn’t in the mood to hunt. The sapphire of her eyes shone lightly in the soft sunlight that was still hanging on over the horizon. Her eyes making her appearance that much stranger.
She sighed, wishing she had more friends that would come and visit her, making her loneliness subside greatly. She was always lonely, ever since she was a young pup and her father always leaving her behind. She had barely known her mother, brother and sister. They were dead before she could speak her full name. Her father never had the time to properly care for her but did teach her how to hunt and fend for herself, which she was grateful for in the end.
Her head lowered, resting on the one paw that was fully visible. In the soft sunlight, the vertical and horizontal scar that adorned her right eye gleamed. The crisscross of both scars shining in the light as it hit her face just right. This wasn’t something she was extremely proud to carry but with being ambushed in the past, there was nothing she could do to fully heal it without it being visible. The wind blew softly, making the new scents swirl around her nose like a tiny tornado. Suppose it’s worth a try.. She thought to herself. Her position never moved, her thoughts did not disturb her. She was at peace for once in her life.

HiS COAT WAS DRYING,
[/b] slowly but surely it was. The day had gotten particularly warmer, but his dampened pelt did little to insulate the Spring heat the sun had offered over. Why was it that the world was always trying to insure his misery? Could he not keep a little warmth to himself without having it snatched away by the icy fingers of the wind..? Muttering a string of indecent words under his breath, Atris trudged along the prairie flat, little tremors discomposing his generally straight frame. Various buzzing pests swarmed around him as he moseyed, even though he would continually flick his bobtail like a fly swatter against his flanks and shake his head numerous times over; they just didn’t seem to comprehend that they bothered him. He didn’t quite like them along with almost any insect that tended to cross his path, but he just kept going forward and scowled to himself, eager they would all drop dead any second. They wouldn't, of course. It was yet another sign the world hated him and the feeling was mutual. Clearly the Yagi was not in the best of moods.. and the cute, dainty little flowers mocking him from the earth upon which he walked wasn't much of a motivator. They laughed at him, laughed at the chill quivering his spine and how terrible he looked. A once moist ebony nose looked as rough as sandpaper, while his sepia fur was covered in particles of dirt and beginning to curl outward. Even more hideous than his rugged appearance, stupid plants were poking fun and throwing insults at him. They made it evident he was slowly losing his sanity. However, eventually the odd thoughts corroded and he snapped back, late to notice the small conformation resting in his path. Atris nearly tripped over the Keiyou, but held his balance with practiced expertise, keen-edged talons grasping the terrain and lightly tearing it from its place as he brought himself to a disjointed halt. He shadowed over her, narrowed emerald eyes more inquisitive than anything as to why the femme had selected this spot, right here, of all the other perches she could have found. She was a multitude of warm colors, like an exquisite desert flower - again with the flower nonsense. What was his previous notion..? Flowers were cute and dainty. That fit her description, but his face would not portray that thought as he continued to stare down at her with dark humor and mild curiosity. "You don't make a convincing road block."[/color] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Dozing off, she did not hear the other’s advance. Her mind had drifted to emptiness and she was not focused. Enjoying the warmth of the sun and it’s companion of the wind, everything seemed to melt around her. The softness of the grass beneath her frame, the sound of the wind dancing in the high weeds surrounding her, with the smell of the wild flowers filling her nostrils, she had not a worry in the world.
Her odd sapphire orbs opening slightly now and then to see what may be in store for her, but nothing crept up on her nor played around her as would a young pup without it’s siblings or family to watch over it. Auds were kept high upon her head, listening to the sounds around her. Her head picked up, the smell and sound of the other approaching spooked her slightly. They had invaded her quiet time though she did not blame them for walking straight towards her. She was hard to see. Her fur the orangey red that it was blended in with the grasses that surrounded her. Before she could stand to assess the approaching being, he was standing above her, glaring down at her form with the curiosity in his eyes she could see directly.
“Well, it is not my fault you walked this way.” She spoke, her voice soft with an edge of tension shining through.
She got up. She was definitely slightly smaller than he. Now only would the passing male be able to see her true form. She was small but fast. Her underbelly a mixture of yellows, the same wrapping around her paws. The scars were visible beneath her right eye which created the small crisscross near the edge. Her wings were a mixture of her dominant color as well as the yellows which made them seem as if fire grazed them slightly though it was not the case.
She had yet to see a being such as him. His horns that adorned both sides of his head were definitely..interesting to say the least. She knew nothing of his kind nor had ever heard of any who bore such strangeness but there again, she wasn’t so normal either.
“and what brings you to this part of the prairie as vast as it is?” She questioned simply.

ATRiS TOOK A FEW PACES BACK,
[/b] minding her personal space as she stood to reveal more of her intricate, fiery design. He scanned her visage for doings sake and just so that she'd be recognizable if they ever happened to cross paths again. He didn't much take notice of her scars, however; everyone had them, internal or external, and he accepted the sight as a natural, recurring aspect in the face of his acquaintances. He couldn't deny he had them himself. They just weren't etched into his cheekbone and memory as they were on the petite fae. For a fraction of a second he wondered where she had picked them up, but it would've been impolite to ask the question. Since when had he, though, been one for morals? It was quite often that Atris saw others as being only another obstacle to climb over. This Keiyou, though.. she was burning her way into the crevices of his mind. Perhaps it was because he was never around anyone long enough to establish a proper thought train before he turned tail, never to see nor think about them again. Perhaps it was simply the intense hue of her pelt that was crisp to the eye. Whichever it was, the presence of another was still a completely foreign concept. "Not my fault you decided to seat yourself where I intended to walk," he retorted with a lazy, almost ludicrous grin. Although his temperament often spiked to feel like a forest is burning, he had an aloof side that showed itself to the more tolerant of strangers. "My motives couldn't be quite as intriguing as yours. Why are you way out here, basking in this land of nothingness..?" [/color] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

She watched him silently, noting the way he looked at her. Sure, she was different but her kind were much more common than some thought. Her strange coloration she did not know where it came from. Neither of her parents bore either of her colors though she knew her eye color had come from that of her mother. That her father had told her long ago.
She sat, her tail wrapping around her lithe haunches as she prepared for a long conversation, or so she hoped. She did not fear the male before her. If he had intended on attacking, he would have done so already. She found it quite intriguing that he had not run from her, in fear that she may cause fire to the area around them as so many had done in her past. Everyone was different, things were never truly the same in every place she traveled.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. Free roam here. I could have lain anywhere and it just so happened you decided to walk this way. You could have gone any other way.” She shrugged, “Ah well, I guess I got lucky. Haven’t met anyone around here really.”
She always liked meeting new and interesting beings, even if they weren’t quite wolves. She had had an interesting conversation with an eagle once right after leaving her father’s pack. The male before her definitely was not just simply a wolf but something more.
“Why not lay out in the field? The sun is warm and the breeze makes the temperatures just right. Nothingness is quite peaceful once and a while.” She laughed, her voice ringing out softly like bells.

AT THE MENTiON OF FiELD,
[/b] his eyes strayed from her vast ocean blues to the landscape, which was dry and moisture-deprived, tickling his underbelly. Peaceful.. the word had him realizing something in the midst of the prairie grounds. In all his years of living, he had never had a friend before; it simply hadn't occurred to him to get to know someone different. And now, just as his budding thoughts were turning to such topics, had he stumbled upon this diverse and colorful being. With the task of befriending someone so blatantly in front of him, the Yagi nearly lost his nerve. The lack of friend-making experience put him on edge, and it took internal coaxing to keep the pompous jerk known in Atris from slipping out. Atris, who was no less as hard as rock, unafraid and able to strike fire into his acquaintances without a single word, he was dismissed for the moment. The other, though second-guessing himself, stepped forward with quite a bit of hesitance. That particular side was being shy this afternoon. Vibrant emerald lenses slipped shut, contemplating this sudden and unnatural shyness, but then flickered open, softer than before. "Why not..? Fleas. They're kinda fond of me.."And there it was, with a fragile kitten smile, his first attempt at friendly conversation. [/color] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

She did not say a thing as his gaze shifted. Perhaps he to was new to the area and was just scanning in terms of sight, taking in its vastness before him. As he glanced away, all she could do was study him more, taking in every sight of the Yagi. Her previous encounter was different than this; the male was kind but a little too formal for her taste though at least it had been a peaceful meeting. The color of his fur mixed in with the strangeness of his horns made him all the more unique, as herself. It was likely that there would never be another to match the same colors and markings unless he had a twin sibling or something. She knew she would never find another like her, at least, she hoped not.
“I’ve never had a problem with fleas.” She said, noting the change in his voice and façade., “I’m always groomed well, taking a dip in a shallow river or lake every once and a while helps to. But there again, my family never had much trouble with fleas, at least not that I can remember. “ She said, laying back down upon her belly. She knew he would not be a threat to her and was able to fall into comfortable conversation.
“I have yet to hear your name sir.” She said, though slightly formal than what she had planned, “Though I suppose I have forgotten my manners. I am BlazingTear, Blaze for short.” Her eyes smiled at him, though not literally. The sapphire blue shined deeply in the sun, making them brighter than they appeared.

iNTRODUCTiONS WEREN'T HiS FORTE.
[/b] The "hear your name" part of her affirmation had him grasping for words, and he grew flustered as his eyes averted back to the scenery. No one had ever addressed him in the way she had. Sir... Truth be told, it felt good to be branded something that wasn't a curse or a weak attempt to dampen his spirits. Her own name was very befitting, indeed, and her coat certainly wasn't the only thing 'blazing'; every blink of her eyes was like extinguishing blue flames, only to have them bursting to life again. She had a relaxing quality about her, not brash and overwhelming like most of the women he'd come across. She was so calm and assured, it was almost contagious. When at last his jaws were not refusing the action, he spoke softly and emerald orbs returned again to hers. "Atris."As a seasoned wolf a bit past his prime, he had abandoned the sweet rapture and bemusement of youth to adult issues.. and obviously the common courtesy of introduction was an adult issue. "I don't have.. a s-short."Silence sealed his lips after that considerably stupid phrase. He bit his tongue in embarrassment, and mentally scolded himself. She couldn’t bare to talk to another without knowing the name of the being she was talking to, it just wasn’t her nature. Her piercing sapphire orbs watched him attentively, noting the change in direction he looked. Shy perhaps..she thought to herself. Maybe he didn’t like giving out his name to strangers even though she meant no harm. She was completely at peace with where she was and who she was talking to.
“Atris..” She repeated, looking up at him since she was laying flat on her belly, “Very unique!” She said, smiling kindly. Auds perked at his other words, though the phrase made no sense to her. Her head cocked to the side, sitting up a bit in her posture so her eyes met his more clearly.
“I’m sorry, what were you saying? I didn’t quite hear it clearly.” She asked, her voice soft but slightly worried. She didn’t want her peace to change around her. She was actually finally able to enjoy herself while others would normally shove her away.

SiDES HEAViNG HEAViLY,
[/b] the Yagi sat two or three feets' distance from his kind Keiyou acquaintance, sighing with great force as he did; partially to blow out some of his edgy mood, and partially to rid himself of the dust that had found its way up his sensitive nose. The incentive to sit had been brought on by her own comfort, and he, too, attempted to be comfortable. It took a bit of shifting and readjusting, indecisive placement of his paws on the grassy earth, but he managed to get a firm hold on the shy Atris. It was then when it occurred to him just how small and petite BlazingTear actually was. She had to have been ten or so inches shorter than him, which made it even more astounding that she didn't bolt away at the sight of a three-foot-nine stranger approaching. He silently admired her for that trait; how unafraid and collected she was in the face of potential danger. Atris didn't intend on being a threat, not without reason. He repeated his words in a way they both would better understand. "I don't have a shorter version of my name," he murmured as the hint of a broader smile flowered onto his face, ears flicking forward. His tone was uncharacteristically smooth and placid with the environment, and he coaxed his head to the side in further thought. [/color] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

She smiled towards him as he to got comfortable near her. The sun felt wonderful on her fire colored fur, her eyes closing momentarily to enjoy the silence of the area around her and take in the scent of her new found friend, or so it seemed. She had not sensed his edgy mood, he had seemed perfectly normal to her, well, at least as normal as she figured. His shyness she had also not picked up on either. His strange moods did not seem to affect her in any way.
She was indeed small but she could pack a punch when defending herself. She was quick to flight, though not always fast when it came to attacking. She had a strong will though, and hunting was at the top of her list as strengths she possessed. She was normally shy to many a first but didn’t feel the need to be with him. Something was different with him. He was larger than she, that was true, and she felt safe with his size.
“No need for a shorter name. Your name is fine as it is.” She said, smiling kindly. Her eyes opened to look towards him again, “I don’t think there would be a way to shorten your name any more than it is already.”

HiS TAiL FLiCKED NONCHALANTLY
[/b] as he grew satisfied by her presence. Solitude was what he roamed by - what he lived by - but not on this surprisingly pleasant afternoon. Today, he had made his first friend, and he considered it a milestone. A bubble of accomplishment swelled in his chest, causing him to feel childish; one of those delayed 'firsts' he was just now experiencing, and that, too, felt great. His breath came in almost silent intakes as he indulged in the feeling, barely catching her additional tidbit about nicknames. As he had, he decided they should move on to another subject. This conversing thing, it really wasn't so bad. A grin played his lips and his eyes became curious emerald embers in the broad daylight. "Is this what you do, then..?" he queried, rather thankful he wasn't talking to a brain-damaged vegetable. He gradually grew fond of the freedom that came with selecting topics with a wolf that didn't sound as monotone and repetitive as the others. "Just sit out here in the field waiting for strangers to amble on by and spark conversation? What an exciting life.. not that I reserve a right to judge where excitement is concerned."[/color] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

The quiet was nice with the occasional conversation. She hadn’t spent time like this in a very long time, not since she still lived with her father when she was young. While he was much different than she, they did spend time together in the peacefulness of a open field, valley, or lounging by a lake or river on days that not a care in the world seemed to affect them. Oddly, this brought back those memories more so than she wanted.
She glanced around them through the tall grass, seeing a small pond not far off. A slyness crept up in her mind, perhaps it was time for a little fun since Atris seemed like one that was always serious and didn’t quite know how to play, at least it was what it seemed.
At the sound of his words, she looked back towards him, smiling as if thinking nothing in particular, “No, I do other things. You just so happened to stumble upon me when I was laying in a place as such.”
She stood, stretching her lithe body and flexing her fiery wings that had laid upon her back. She stalked closer to him, her tail raised high in play, wagging happily. She pounced down around him, her front paws lower to the ground than her back. She nudged him at his side with her nose, as if a playful puppy trying to get its mother to play with it. She would get him up and in the water she had seen even if it killed her enough to get him into a playful mood. It would be better than sitting around here all day even though she found nothing wrong with it. You needed to play every once and a while, even if you were well past your prime. She was definitely not a pup anymore, but it was always good to have a little fun once and a while.

iT CALMED HiM DOWN
[/b] just a little, to be around Blaze; even if she was just an acquaintance and might possibly remain so, her presence was like a lullaby to an upset pup. And at that moment, he was struck by the irony of the very thought, for in actuality that was exactly what he was - an annoyed child. Perhaps not physically, but Atris felt like one mentally. He was far too wise for his years, having seen chaos and torment and everything horrible enough to rob him of his youth, and at the same time, he was making up for the seasons of intuition he had given up so early. Around him, he knew terrible things were unfurling; in that very second, however, he was sitting there, unharmed, in the macabre tranquility of the field that encased him. No outrage quelled in his chest like usual, no terror, fear, hostility. He had seldom seen contentment to be able to truly identify it, but this was as close as it had ever been to touching him. Atris was quite confused when the femme returned to her feet and stuck her rump joyfully in the air, nudging him and inviting him to play. Under every little bit of movement, the brittle grasses crunched below her as she continued with this display he'd never witnessed. Vivid orbs scanned her visage for the billionth time, trying to read her emotions, and he realized that she was looking into some of that excitement to fuel her. She was determined to play a little game with him..? He wouldn't deny her. "You're a spontaneous one."The Yagi mimicked Blaze's playful gesture, awkwardly raising his lower half higher than the rest of his body, and in the process managing to stumble; no better than a kitten with no sense of balance in the world. It was more of a bow he had settled in when his eyes sought his company, glistening with a new-found respect for her, his dusty facade lighting up in a cute way. She laughed, bounding away from him a few feet. She still had the playful stance, her tail held up high and her tongue rolling from her mouth. Eyes were alight and happy as she stared back at him. She came running at him suddenly, nipping the side of his ear as she pranced by though quickly ran to the other side of him. She never strayed far, allowing him to catch on first before trying to get him into the waters of the pond near.
“Come on. Let a little excitement come into your life. A little fun never hurt any one!” She giggled, bounding away again and staring back at him. Her wings fluttered slightly, making her hover a few feet from the ground before setting herself back on the hard earth. The grasses crunched beneath her weight, making a path with the way she had come and it was obvious that someone had been there, laying in the fields of nothingness.
She could remember her youth, even if it was just her and her father. Her siblings had been killed long ago, as well as her mother. Her father saved her before the rest and when he went back, it had been to late. As a young pup she only had her father as both a parent and a playmate. She often displayed this sort of play towards him on days she was just antsy and bored. This was not the case now. Her display was to get Atris up and out of his shell. She could tell he was a bit of a loner, or so he seemed. Perhaps a little play would open him up.
She turned again, running at him this time as her wings fluttered open and wind caught her. She glided over him before landing behind his form, turning to look back at him. It was the opposite direction of where she wanted to go but she would get there, all in due time.
