It was a quiet morning. It was probably fitting, since Itachi expected it to be his last morning.
He hadn't eaten much other than the fragments of a carcass the other day, and his disease from the malnutrition he recieved from the first time he was abandoned was now starting to overwelm him. Not the disease itself, but the feeling it brang. It could probably easily be remedied, but it felt worse then it really was in his state.
Sky blue eyes that have seen rejection, scorn and loneliness altogether searched around the swamps he stumbled upon. He had woken up after sleeping under a set of rocks, a space so small only pups could fit in.

But now he was out in the humid open, not able to see much since the trees around the marsh blocked out more light, but he could see it was cloudy anyway, and it would rain soon.
As he was walking, he had forgotten how close the water was to the rocks, and while looking up at the sky he fell on a lily pad, which started to sink. This was bad. Not only did he not know how to sleep, he was to weak to anyway. He leaped from lily to lily, but they sunk more and more, he wouldnt make it out. He found a fallen log and leaped for it, slipping but managing a hold when he snapped his teeth on a small branch that still clung to the rest of the log, which, under his weight, though little of it there was, started to move... Down the canal.
This wasn't occurring to plan. He calculated. Unless his plans involved hopping on a log and drifting in the middle of the canal, surrounded by both dangerous creatures and the inner threat of his disease, this wasnt something he intended to do.
He realized if he tried to call for help, then it would attract the attention of other creatures. Hello, a weak pup that couldnt fight back in the middle of a canal clinging to a log that could turn over and bring him back in the water at any second? It was like a food cart for the predators of the canal.
So he clung there, using his powerful eyes to search around the water in front of him, hoping that the canal ends soon. Thoug the water moved rather slow.

The morning was quiet and beautiful, fitting for the Peacock's mood. He knew the Canal was nearby, and thought maybe to stop for a drink. Coming up onto a rock where a sunbeam was stretching down through the trees. Sasha stretched his wings, reveling in the warmth it brought him before he jumped down, walking up the bank to take a drink of the cool canal water. Just then he heard a splash... followed by another. He looked up, curious, around the Canal. Sasha saw an uprooted lily-pad floated past him. Odd... He thought. Perhaps a rather large frog was nearby? The idea both disgusted him and intrigued him. Will our pack eat frogs? He most certainly didn't like the look of them, but maybe their taste was different. Meh. I'm Alpha. I'll just take the first REAL meat they bring in. The Peacock Myou was pulled from his musings, however, when a log floated past. That in of itself wasn't unusual. But on one side he noticed a small pup clung to the log. It looked thin and sickly... Sasha suddenly stretched his wings and took a leap. "Sashura, defender of Wolfkind to the rescue!" Landing nimbly on the log he used his wings to keep balance. He leaned down to sink his teeth into the puppy's scruff. "Don't struggle..." He instructed.

"Sashura, defender of Wolfkind to the rescue."
Somewhat child-like heroism in the quote, like the stories that his former adoptive mother once told. But just the fact that the voice was heard, and was shouted towards him, made it seem enough of a relief to him. If he had been older, he may not have wanted the help from a loony.
When he almost fell off the log from the sudden shift in weight, he looked up to see a bizzare appearance.
Okay, so things were playing a little differently. It wasn't that this character acted like a loony, its that he looked like one.
He was a peacock... No, he had the head of a wolf, and some of the frontside was reminescent of a wolf, but the other parts of it, such as the bird legs and a huge tail with plumes with eye shapes in them, was not wolven.
He had also been told of birds with such a description, though without the wolven features, that the former mother had called "Birds of Paradise."
Now, since this wolf wasnt particularly a bird, he couldn't call it a bird of paradise. It seemed maybe the creature had been in paradise a little too long.
"Dont struggle."

Was he gonna be kidnapped? The half second after the quote from the creature came to his mind, but he dismissed it in the other half. He was told he was being saved, which had given the word loony to him in the first place.
How could he move? He was already fairly sick, even though the disease wasnt serious. He would permanently be affected from the malnutrition in his younger years, but if he lived to this day maybe he would be able to build it up enough it wasnt distinguishable.
So he made a type of grunting sound, one that resonated with a voice that was mature for his half year age.

With satisfaction he raised the thin thing out of the water. Sasha had a moment to be surprised- or severely shocked at how underweight this little puppy was. Oh my... Deciding they needed to get out of the water, Sasha used his wings to keep balance before creeping closer to the edge of the log. Every step he took made the log tilt dangerously. Almost there... Almost there... just one more step. Go! Sasha made to take a flying leap towards the bank. Unfortunately, the log lost control at just that moment and began spinning. His paws and talons almost being swept out from under him, Sasha was lucky that he'd already been leaping. But he had a bad start. He landed about two inches away from the bank, his front talons sinking into sticky mud while his back half- including his lustrous tail- sank into the deep water. Sasha knew about a half-second of panic. Oh my god! My tail feathers! Plus, Peacocks weren't waterfowl. He could probably swim if he really needed to, but he wouldn't like it and it wouldn't be easy. His front talons weren't webbed, after all. And his tail would really weigh him down. Kicking forward his legs, he climbed up onto the bank and deposited the puppy near a bush. Looking back at his tail, he huffed before fanning it out abruptly, shaking the water from it, he then set to cleaning his talons of the mud.

He barely had time to think, which was rare for a mental-based pup like Itachi, what with all that had just happened in the last few moments.
But, in the end, the result was what he had hoped for. He was out of the canal, away from the dangers and the suffering. He smiled, which was also rare for Itachi. The creature was now apparently cleaning himself from the mud and swampy water, probably one of those types that are sensitive about their beauty.
Itachi realized how easy it was for the stranger to have picked him up, meaning that if we didnt get some kind of nourishment fast, he would die.
Itachi got ready to thank the stranger.
"Tha-" But he was stopped short as he was thrown into a coughing fit and actually started coughing up blood, making him keel over and collapse, still coughing.

He intermediately began coughing up blood. Sasha was freaked out. What do I do? He wasn't some mother! How was he supposed to help a sickly puppy... Deciding it was his best choice, Sasha hurried over to the puppy before starting to lick his chest. Hopefully that would help. Sasha wondered breifly what was wrong with this puppy. But soon dismissed it. As soon as I can stop this dreadful coughing, he needs food. He observed, looking at the tiny little puppy. Seriously! Who the hell would neglect a pup to such a state?

It wouldnt be much longer. Not much longer until he died. The stranger stood there, not really knowing what to do. He stopped coughing up blood, but it had started running down his nose too. Eventually, that subsided, but now his vision was blurrying, and his ears started to ring.
Was this really how it was going to end? So close to life, yet it was taken away from him at the last second?
He realized that if the stranger didnt know what to do, and he bent his last hopes on a small whim, but one that would hopefully get him lucky.
"If you... have a pack..." His breathing was a little heavier now, and he started to black out, "Get... help..."
He fell into unconsciousness with that.

He had a very real fear that the puppy would never make it. And once they got there, then what? They didn't have a healer yet! Hell, he didn't even think any of them knew how to heal. So how would he save this pup? Food! Yes, the pup needed food, right? Maybe that'd help. Sasha hurried off a short ways away, scouting the terrain. Soon he spotted a Jackalope. It hat it'd back to him. Sasha stalked up to it quietly, before lunging and killing it. Yes! He'd done it. Sasha picked up his prey and hurried back through the trees, towards the waterside. The Peacock Myou set the Jackalope down in front of his face, then began licking his ears. "Wake up! It's food!"

He wasn't going to give up so easily. He had to push himself awake. He couldnt die now, he was only within 6 moons old, there was no way he was going down now.
He heard shouting and the scent of meat came up his nostrils. This made him figure he was still conscious. Good, good. That meant he still had a chance.
His vision started to recover from the blank, near-death state they were just in, seeing red meat right in front of him, standing over it was the bird-wolf creature, shouting to wake up.
Another waft of the powerful scent through nostrils that were supposedly dulled from near death and filled up with dry blood brought him fully back to consciousness. He stood up the best way he could, which was a harsh struggle to accomplish, before taking a bite out of the meat with his weak teeth that were relatively new.
He could feel his insides pretty much annialate anything he swallowed. He was going to live. The food started to go through his system, kicking everything back to full blast, though not right at the moment.
But how was he going to live? Surely this stranger had a home, maybe he could follow? It wasn't like him to ask for help, but desperate times, right?
"Is there a place... That you belong to? I-If there is, could I follow you to it?"
He tried not to sound helpless, for that wasn't like him at all, but he couldn't ask the question and avoid sounding needy.

Sasha flicked his ears forward, and he stood a little taller. Oh, this puppy wanted a pack? How delightful! Sasha could arrange that! Oh, yes yes indeed! "Oh, yes yes! You are looking at the Alpha Male of the Quesse-Anar Clan, my dear puppy." He nodded enthusastically. "I'll take you there and even mentor you! Oh yes, you will be highly respected and everything!" He nodded to himself, thinking over all the things he would teach this pup. Dancing, singing, flying! Well... Sasha was a bird. He was okay at flying, but this Keiyou could probably do better. No matter! He would turn out made of awesome anyways. With a curious sniff, Sasha took in the scent of the puppy. "What's your name? And can you walk there, or would you want to be carried by the great and noble Sasha?"

Itachi managed to stay stable, though how far he could walk would depend on the distance of the travel. He didnt quite realize it, though he probably would soon if there was anything he was going to go to. He had to. He would. The peacock-wolf had pretty much guaranteed it for him.
When he was asked of his name, it made him realized it was the only real thing he had, even if it had been a name given by a cynical foster father.
"I'm.... Itachi."
He took a step. He was able to walk, at least, though not for a long distance.
"I... can walk. Just... lead the way."
He sounded pretty calm for a pup that was close to death only moments before.
