As the mouse started toward Toby, he immediately started to move away. Obi was already in stalking position and he didn’t even consider making the kill for himself. Rather something in his mind seemed to signal him to move away. It wasn’t even really a thought, more of like an instinct or a well trained reaction. Obi was the superior hunter. Move out of the way, his mind seemed to say be way of reaction, let those who are better than you handle it. So, as he always did, he moved aside for his brother.
But he smiled as he watched. Obi looked so serious and fierce, as though he were going after much larger prey than a simple mouse. “Every hunt is important,” he remembered being told as a pup, although he couldn’t quite remember who told him now, “Big or small the prey is vital to our survival. When you hunt you must forget that you are a wolf, and must not think yourself superior to your prey. Do not underestimate your prey or the power of hunger. You must think as the hunter only, hone your instincts, and treat every hunt as though it alone will determine your survival.” Had Obi been there for that talk? And if so, had he somehow managed to pay attention to the whole thing? Tobias couldn’t remember, but seeing Obi now called those words to mind. Because before him he could clearly see the hunter. He waited quietly and watched.

Obi saw his brother move aside but didn't let his eyes stray off the mouse. He stayed low, and still controlling his breath so that it wouldn't scare the mouse.
He inched forward as the mouse skittered farther away. His tails blended in with the movements of the grass. He emptied his mind from everything except the mouse.
Slowly the mouse got a false sense of security. Obi released himself and pounced. Quickly he snapped the mouses neck. He turned and smiled proudly at his brother.
