Rayne A single mousy brown paw rested on the small carcass of a lifeless Jackalope, its eyes where glazed and a few drops of crimson blood had run down its face giving it unnatural red stripes. The owner of the paw however seemed uninterested in her prize, as her bright blue eyes gazed out through the trees of the orchard. She had killed the innocent Jackalope because her instincts had told her she needed the protein, but as soon as the creature was dead she had lost interest in it, and merely carried it with her to her resting spot thinking it would save her a job when her hunger eventually returned.
Light pink tongue slowly appeared to be flicked round her lips before it disappeared back inside her mouth, as her petite head lowered itself down to the ground resting next to the dead creature, and her paw that still protectively rested upon it. Eyes flickered to it once before slipping closed, but in the dark all she could do was think, all she could hear was the person she thought was her mother telling her that her real parents had abandoned her, telling her that they had never cared. She had been abandoned like the carcass of a animal that had been picked clean by scavengers, and at this thought her eyes opened and she removed her protective paw using It to push the animal away, watching as its furry body rolled over a few times it seemed that she would have to hunt again after all.

Spice The small golden Myou picked his way though the tall grass, amber eyes squinting. The treads of wheat yellow streamed above his larger bat like ears. But that wasn't like he was a bat. Though he did prefer to travel at night. But no he wasn't a bat at all. His nose twitched as he caught the sent of jackalope on the wind. His tongue lolled out of his mouth as it filled with saliva. For a while he thought to just turn around and head back to the dessert where he was comfortable but the sent drew him on. He wander though, fallowing his nose till he made his way out of the worst of the grass. There out in the open lay what he been looking for. Dead and unprotected. Suspicion tingled on his neck and he looked farther and noticed another form.
Moving cautiously forward he made out the small brown Keiyou. A scowl worked it's way across his muzzle. Large amber eyes narrowed more. He stepped lightly and silently till he was right on top of the other wolf. "It's disgusting to waste," He barked curtly and disdainfully.

Rayne
She laid her head back down between both her paws this time, and let herself doze in the first patch of spring sunshine. Rayne hadn’t thought that her head merely touching the ground would send her off to sleep, but she had traveled a long way today coupled with the fact that she had learned of her past caused her to both physically and emotionally drained.
Soon she was in a dream world filled with those of her past, and even some faces that she didn’t recognize and yet brought a warm feeling too her, could it be that she was remembering snippets of her real family? Her parents? She didn’t know, but she longed to stay in this dream with the unfamiliar figures just to keep that feeling alive, but it seemed today fate had something else in store for her.
Her dream world began to slip away and what replaced it was a unfamiliar voice, her eyelids fluttered open and she spotted a strange male hovering over her. Ears flicked back against her skull, but it wasn’t in anger, he may have been half her size but Rayne was still scared. “I-I can’t …..” she started realizing that she didn’t need to tell him the whole story about why she couldn’t eat it “I’m sorry” she said quietly backing out from underneath him in a attempt to get away.
Out from under his nose she stood facing him letting her wings twitch lazily before settling back into place, it was now that she noticed that the stranger didn’t have any wings. Her light blue eye watched him carefully studying his appearance why didn’t he have wings? All Keiyou have wings she thought not even thinking that the stranger could be something other than Keiyou, she then remembered the reason he had spoken to her and her eyes looked over to the Jackalope her stomach suddenly clenching, she was hungry, but she knew she would never be able to eat that Jackalope now “t-t-take it” she offered her head dropping eyes going with it.

Spice Spice sneered at her stuttering as she awoke. It surprised him that she acted scared of him, but even more so it irritated him. He had never been feared, hated maybe, but never feared. And he took no satisfaction in the fear of others automatically assuming he had ill intent. Still, as the she wolf rose, the fur on the back of his neck rose as she towered over him.
His scowl deepened however when she offered him the discarded prey. Amber eyes blazed in furry. He was tired and hungry, and the idea did tempt him, but what if he hadn't come along? That jackalope would have been left to rot. It's death wasted. Spice's thick golden fur bristled with his anger. He took a deep breath to keep his voice from raising or shaking. He didn't need others coming across this and attacking them for the limp carcass that neither seemed to want. "I didn't say I wanted it. I just find it revolting that you will kill it then waste it."

Rayne
Eyes flickered up to him and then back down to the ground, he seemed angry and she didn’t quite know why, had she done something wrong? “I-I’m sorry” she almost whispered her feet then took her a step backwards, away from him, she was frightened he was the first she had met out on her own. When she had left home she had thought that all those she would meet from then on would be different from the ones back home, this encounter was showing her that she was wrong.
Her lion like tail flickered down to the floor and began to slowly swirl in the dirt her brow furrowing for a second before her eyes flicked up to his “I-I-I …..” she started not really knowing what to say, and most defiantly not wanting too say the wrong thing and make him worse “I didn’t catch it just to leave it there!” her words were quick as if she where a naughty child giving out their explanation “ I-I just … I … cant ….” her words again quiet and stuttered, she sighed greatly and her eyes faltered from him the image of the small Jackalope being her as a small child, pushed away by family instead of predator. They instead looked down to the ground “I wouldn’t have ju-just left it there you know” her voice was small and she could feel her small body begin to shake just slightly, she didn’t want him to be mad at her anymore.

Spice Irritation swelled as she stuttered though her explanation. His ears folded back as something wrenched in his gut. 'Don't feel guilty!'he chided himself. But it was too late. His fury at the she wolf had peaked and boiled over but thats about the time it always retreated. He eyed her warily as she backed away from him. I ruffled fur began to lay flat and all that was left inside of him was an icky feeling of being a bully.
"Look, I don't understand why it's a big deal, but I'll take it if you won't eat it. No sense in wasting it's death," he looked away from her and surveyed the land. With his anger retreated he remembered why he was all the way out here in the first place. He wasn't sure how far away from home he was, but it was far enough that if he changed his mind now he wouldn't make it back to his den by dusk.
He tore his gaze away from the land and down to the carcass. It wasn't his normal kind of prey but he figured it was better not to waste. And he should learn to act more like a wolf if he were to be interacting with others more often now. With a sigh he returned his focus to the cowering Keiyou. His muzzle stretched in a wolfish frown. He felt like he should apologize but his pride kept him silent.

Rayne
A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth as he spoke, he wondered why it was a big deal and yet he was the one who had come in and made it a big deal, this amused her a little bit. Her body had stilled and even her ears perked up a little from their scared hiding place upon her head, she sat letting her twitching tail flop around her side still twirling in the dust as it did so. “its ok .. I guess you just don’t like waste” she said shrugging her stutter completely gone as if she had relaxed the moment the other wolf had, which she guessed she must have done.
His eyes turned away from her then and she studied him as he did so taking the opportunity to wonder about his wings, or lack of once more. She had never met another species before after all her pack, the one she had grown up in had only had Keiyou in and no one had ever spoken of other species before “uhh …” she started wondering if it was polite to ask him or if he would go off in a rant once more, she decided against it especially now he was looking this way once more “I’m Rayne by the way” she said grinning for a second before it disappeared and she lowered her head a little wondering if he would reply or grab his snack and leave, she guessed the latter.

Spice She was right in her assumption of him disliking waste. But what could he say. He grew up in an environment that didn't have much to spare. He couldn't afford to waste. He thought back to the times he almost died of dehydration or was sick because of the cold desert nights. Oh how tough his pad had become from the scorching sand, extra fur or no. Thinking like this left a foul taste in his mouth. One that tasted too much like pity. He was proud of his strength to over come the harsh life of the desert. And he would be happy to return once he got the answers he was looking for.
He had stopped paying particular attention to the she-wolf he had just scolded and was surprised when she spoke again. Now the polite thing to do was to tell her his name sense she had told him hers. He looked at Rayne contemplating. His birth name was Peppercorn, (which never made any sense to why his parents named him that) but he went by the nick name his sisters had given him. "You can call me Spice," he said, a touch of fondness in his voice at the memory. Yet as the scene in his head got to the end the bitter feeling was back. With a tight shake of the head he got up and padded over to the dead jackalope. He supposed he should take it and be on his way. Unintentionally he let a yawn escape the confines of his mouth.

Rayne
She smiled as he offered his name, and was just thinking he would stay with her for a while longer when he got up and went to the dead Jackalope. Panic swept through her for a moment, sure he had been mean and snappy yet she thought he may have his own reasons for this, but he was the first that she had met, and without him here she was alone. “Spice…..” was she really going to up and ask a complete stranger to stay with her during the night just because she didn’t want to be alone? To her it seemed like a good idea, but she didn’t even know her he could be some murderous raping beast for all she knew.
Then he yawned and she wondered about a different side of him, what if he were actually tired and wanting to get back to his den. She frowned momentarily at this thought he may be on his way back to a mate and small pups after all she knew this was the time of year for them, and this thought made her decide her next words. “……it was nice to meet you” she said offering a small smile “maybe we will bump into each other again one day” she said knowing that this would probably never happen, but it was nice to think that maybe one day she would meet him again.

Spice Spice looked up when she said his name. But silence then stretched as she searched for the words. His ear flickered as he held off annoyance. Patience had never been his strong point. He took her period of silence to finally truly study the other. She truly was half his hight, but her meekness made her not at all intimidating. Not that Spice was ever intimidated. And her bright blue eyes were nothing like his own.
Then again there was nothing to compare to Spice. Not even his own species seeing as every Myou was different. His family was the perfect example of that. It seem everything he though about brought him back to why he was out here.
He was yanked from his thoughts as Rayne finally found what she wanted to say. He almost scoffed at the thought of this being a nice meeting. She sure was optimistic. But the thought of bumping into each other again wasn't terrible. That is if she didn't plan to waste any more food. With a nod to Rayne he picked up the now cold body. A though hit him that maybe she knew her way around this place. He set the jackalope down again so he could speak. "Do you by any chance know a good place to shelter for the night?" he asked his tone a little haughty because he refused to seem ignorant.

Rayne
She watched as he picked up the little Jackalope and wondered what she would do when he had gone, she guessed she would leave this place and venture onwards into the lands that smelled so unfamiliar. Then he stopped and dropped the creature, and for a moment she wondered if he had changed his mind, if he didn’t want to go back to his family, but his words made me wonder if there was actually a family in his life at all “well, I’m new around here …” Eyes flicking up to him the small smile still on her face “I have been staying near to the coast, its alright if you like the sea I guess” shrugging she continued on “there is this place called ….” she paused trying to remember “key cliffs. There are caves and stuff …. Its pretty safe for a lone wolf ….. Or even a family of them if you plan to move your family there” she said her ears finally popping up into their proper positions.
She remembered her short journey here, from the cliffs through the underground river and then to this place, not that she had planned to go back there. It had been safe and she had enjoyed her first visit to the beach, but looking for comfort and safety wasn’t in a beach cave by the sea. She stood lifting her tail out of the dirt and letting it wag slightly behind her, her wings stretched out to their full span showing that they were smaller than her species should be before settling “I can walk with you if you like?” she offered wanting to stay in his company for as long as she could, fearing being on her own once more.

Spice Spice tried not to scowl at the mention of the word family. He realized that Rayne was talking about a different kind of family than he was thinking about but it still hurt. Shoving down bitter resentment. He considered the option that Rayne presented. It sounded good for the night and , though it wasn't underground, it had a roof. That was better than nothing. "Yeah, showing me the way would be nice," He said, not in a mean way but it wasn't exactly nice. Spice didn't know how to be 'nice'. His best nice was a curt nod or that's the direction you want to go to get out of this sand hole. Though now that he was out of his territory it felt odd to be the given directions. "I don't have a family you know. I'm out here for...," he paused. He had never had anyone to talk to so the word slipped out before he could stop them. His ears flickered, wondering if the company was getting to him. But sense he started the sentence he might as well finish it. "I'm only out here for answers."

She brushed off his tone without even thinking about it, there was something about his tone that seemed uninterested and mean, but to her it seemed like it was almost forced, a front, either way she didn’t mind it. Her eyes widened when he said he was out there for answers and she echoed him quietly “answers” she frowned for a moment and then her eyes dropping before she looked up and into his eyes “looks like everyone is looking for answers today then” all she smiled briefly but beneath the surface there was only sadness.
She walked around him and too his side so that they could walk together and began to mull things over. So this was my first day here in this strange world, and my first day out on my own, I had explored, found a place to sleep, food and a possible friend. I thought it had gone pretty well, and so far there were far more up sides to life alone, I just hoped that this was the first good day of many.

Spice Spice contemplated what she meant. He reminded himself once again not to feel guilty. There was no point. He saw the sadness behind her smile but didn't mention it. Everyone had baggage, even if he sometimes forgot. He nodded to her as she came to stand beside him. His mind once again drifted to cold desert nights. Tonight wasn't cold. And he force away the idea that it might be because he wasn't alone. You could take the wolf out of the desert, but you can't take the desert out of the wolf. Harsh as the sandstorms that plagued the dunes. But what if that wolf was placed in that desert and abandoned to learn and fend on his own. And once again he cast the self pity aside. He glanced over at Rayne, who seemed calmer now then during their entire encounter. "Lead the way," he said and picked up the Jackalope. ooc: Yeah That's fine.
