Cough.
'I'm the epitome of health,' Arseus thought, though in a more joking manner than in annoyance; it seemed almost every other day he came down with an illness of some kind - not quite a shocker that he caught something again. 'You've proven you can catch a sickness, good job. Better catch something of the food variety before this damn cold gets worse.'
...
Who was he trying to kid? That had been his goal for the past few days: get some food. Oh, he found some food - Seus had spotted a jackalope just earlier this morning. Catching it? Well ... He'd been less than successful. His body was becoming stiff with age and it was beginning to show it even more in recent days.
Even now, as he trudged along the unfamiliar grassland overlooking a nearby canyon, his movements were rigid and almost unsure. Nearly eleven years of life and traveling and he never really felt old and alone until now. He should have settled down and joined a pack or something years ago - that's what he was always sure that he was going to do. He loved to travel, no doubt. He enjoyed being out on his own.
But it was awful to be out on his own when his body was falling apart around him.
A quick sniff to survey his surroundings and -
Oh jeez. Maybe his mind wasn't as sharp as he thought. Seus had managed to wander into a strange pack's territory. All thoughts of how he was 'supposed' to settle down were wiped from his mind. Previous encounters with unfamiliar packs told him it was time to get out of here.
Cough.

Isealdyr had quite nimbly escaped from the clutches of her parents' den. Her first solo venture out of the hatch, so to speak, and the little pup was bounding up the staircase with her little gray wings flapping on her back. Her mouth was hanging open, tongue lolled out as she went. Bounce, bounce, bounce. There was no one telling her to go back, or she couldn't. Half of her knew her parents would be furious, and yet she wanted to explore, and have the freedom of her parents not watching her every move.
It was easy enough to slip out of the cave too, and having already been countless times up to the top of the canyon, she knew the terrain well. The stairs, though complicated at first, were fairly easy to maneuvre and though high up, if she flapped her wings enough she could hover herself onto them quite easily. Her little mask face peered up above each step as she went, announcing her presence. She giggled to herself as she went, peering down below at the side of the canyon. She was quite a ways up now, and no one seemed all too alarmed.
Pleased with her stealthy skills she wobbled a bit in her place, moving her paws and making them more steady. She didn't want to fall - though she had wings they weren't strong enough to allow her to fly. So she was careful on her way up, despite the bouncing. Her little tail was furiously wagging behind her, the hair still quite curly from being a puppy. This was indeed an adventure, and she was more than thrilled about the prospect of going to the top alone.
She finally reached the top, peering down once more behind her to see if she had been followed. No one seemed to be there so she waddled a bit, plopped her butt down on the top and puffed her chest out. "I am Isealdyr, QUEEN of Styrrstdar!" she said in a loud, yet squeaky voice. Her chest quickly deflated and she giggled once more, rising from her seat and wandering around. "Yes, yes, loyal subject. Tie the griffin there. Good good," she would have continued if she hadn't heard something from a little ways off.
Blinking furiously, the little female shot her body around, her amber eyes finding the form of a clearly, much older wolf. Initially taken aback, she said nothing, letting her mouth hang open for a second. She didn't recognize the male at all - he wasn't a pack member. Though she felt threatened she was also fairly curious, and yet, having seen her parents, figured she knew what to do.
So, little Isy let her ears pin back and she growled a little bit, letting out a series of little yips as she bounced around the top of the canyon, trying to make herself look threatening. Because clearly, pups are super scary. It was hard to stop her tail from wagging though as she went.
ooc | Yours is fine. xD I hope you don't mind me sending you a pup. I'm sure someone else will come too. If not I'll bring Rhiannon in. :3 I just wanted to play Isy.

Fortissimo was not happy. His precious little daughter was gone from the den! GONE! Who knows what could have happened to her?! Griffins, Dragons, and wolves! Crawling all around! Well at least this was pack lands, hopefully someone captured her. Forte was on his way to her now, following her scent up the canyon, beside him his son struggled to keep up.
Mesoforte had demanded to be taken with Forte. He threw a hissy-fit because his sister got to go out before him, and he threatened to just run away like she did. Of course, Forte would rather be able to watch his mischievous son, then have to worry about him too. It turned out to be a big mistake.
"Great Spirit, Father!" Meso said, with a snide little grin on his face. "How could you let your own daughter run away?!" He snickered. Meso loved to tease his father. He liked to taunted the head of the pack, and be able to get away with it. "She could be dead."
Fortissimo growled, Meso had gone to far. "Son!" He said sharply, turning on the rooster myou. "Show some respect! How do you expect to rule a pack when you are an arrogant ass?" He continued at a quicker pace and did not stop to help the little pup up a high shelf. It was some time later before Meso caught up, and was able to say the snide remark that he had though up.
"That never stopped you!" He giggled, but was disappointed because Forte did not raise to the taunt.
Finally they reached the top of the canyon, Meso's little chest heaving. It was quick work to find the missing pup. "Isealdyr!" Forte growled, running up behind his daughter. He tried not to smile at the little pup who was trying to act threatening, but was achieving the exact opposite. He pulled his brows together more firmly. "And what do you think you are doing, young lady?" Forte growled, momentarily forgetting about the loner. At his heels, Meso snickered. This is why he had really wanted come, to see his sister get punished. "Ooh, Isy is gonna get it!"
Forte shot a warning look at Meso, before turning his attention to the old male. "Im sorry, stranger. I hope my daughter did not disturb you. I am Alpha Fortissimo, why are you here?"

Arseus leaned his head slightly to one side, his ears raised, intrigued by the little pup before him. He couldn't help but grin softly at her antics. (Or, what he could make out of them. She mostly looked like a little bouncing blur - yet another thing Seus grew to dislike about his age. His eyesight was horrid.) But ... she's awfully young, what was she doing here alone?
The sight of the stranger male bounding up to the pup answered his question before it was even asked. The old wolf's tail quickly tucked itself between his legs - best not to try his luck. Appear as unthreatening as possible. Get out of here as soon as you get the chance.
"N-not at all, Alpha," Arseus responded, lowering his head. "My name is Arseus. I'm -" Cough. Great. His nervousness apparently irritated his throat further. "I-I'm just a traveler."
'Unfortunately.'
"I apologize -" Cough. "I didn't mean to intrude on your lands. My sense of smell -" Cough. "It's .. not quite what it used to be."
'He doesn't seem upset with you. Maybe there's a chance you could join them.'
"I was just -" Cough. "Leaving," he said, eyes darting away for a moment. That's not quite what he wanted, but ...
'Stupid. You just met them - and you're old and sick, anyway. Why in the world would they allow you to join them? Stop getting your hopes up!'

Isealdyr was trying to act all threatening when suddenly she heard her name. Whipping her body around she came face to face with one helluva angry dad, and a brother. Isy screwed up her face in momentary shock and then plopped herself down on her butt, giving her father the puppy-dog eyes. "But but but, Daddy..." she whimpered, sticking her bottom lip out as far as it could go. "I just wanted to explore... I'm sorry Daddy," she curled her little tail around her body, making herself look very cute and innocent-like. She ignored her brother's comment, but made a mental note to harass him later.
She couldn't keep her attention on her father though as she stranger replied to Forte. Isy turned her head to look at him, and then her whole body, staring at him for a few moments as he spoke. He seemed sick, coughing and he also looked old. Older than her parents. Which was OLD. So he would have to be ancient. Isy blinked a moment, rising up on her paws and bouncing a little bit towards him. "But why do you want to go Arseus?" she said, her voice stumbling awkwardly over his name as she spoke. "It's fun here! We've got a biiiiig river, and a waterfall, and everyone's really nice. Except Meso, he's a pain in the butt," she said, shooting him a look and sticking out her tongue.
She wiggled a little bit more and bounced closer. "Why do you keep coughing? Is there something in your throat?" she asked, tilting her head up to look at him. He looked kind of like Rawls, except without antlers. She didn't know much about the different species, so she had no idea he was a lupus. "I can try to get it out for you!" she suddenly thought, giving him a wide grin.

Forte smiled at his silly daughter, despite himself. Behind him Meso growled, knowing that a scolding was all she was going to get. He was not interested in the dying wolf in front of him, and he thought it would be weak of his father to except him into the pack. He turned his back on the going-ons, sticking his feathered butt in the air, acting superior to everyone present. But, he turned his attention back to his sister when she started talking to the stranger. He narrowed his eyes at her, and snorted. Only when he was insulted did Meso pounce. He hit his sister in the back with his paws, but took care not scratch her with his long talons, he was her brother after all. They tumbled over and over again, away from the paws of the adults. Meso ended up on top, and commensed to bite his sister's ear.
Forte rolled his eyes, used to the pup's squabbles. He turned his attention to Arseus. It was not his nature to go out of his way to help anybody that was in need. But his daughter had already opened his pack to the stranger and he could not recant such an offer. "Why don't you come and stay with us Arseus? The sun's warmth feels good on sore muscles." Forte said from experience. Usually a member had to prove themselves with a joining brawl, but he would not push it on Arseus.

Arseus immediately stepped backwards away from the pup when she bounded toward him - he wasn't sure that whatever illness he had this time could pass on to others around him or not. Best not to take chances, especially with a youngster like her. "Thank you - Isealdyr, was it? - but," he said, once again unable to keep from smiling at her antics, "It's just a cold." Cough. "I don't think you can get it out, as much as I'd appreciate it," he finished, just before the two puppies started their play-fight.
Arseus' ears perked up as the alpha male spoke to him. "Would t-that really be okay," there was a slight pause as he spoke, attempting to recall his name. He couldn't blame that on his age - he'd never been great at remembering things like names. "Alpha Fortissimo?" His head rose and tail untucked itself from between his legs - he almost wagged his tail, but held back.
He'd have to remember to thank Isealdyr again later.

Isy knew that she probably wouldn't get much of a punishment for wandering off. Perhaps that was why she did it in the first place, disobeying her parents wishes. But even still, she did feel bad for making her father worry. Isealdyr's attitude was much different than Meso's towards the stranger, Arseus, clearly. She strived for equality and fairness - of course, ranks were fair because they correlated to one's skill. But why should they turn this wolf away? There was little to no reason, despite him being old and sick, and it would be unfair of them to give him the boot. He was just a wolf, like everyone else. He didn't show them any reason to be a threat.
So Isy stood before him with her little tail going like wildfire, beaming up at him. He replied back to her and she giggled. "Everyone just calls me Isy," she said with a very extravagant nod. "Oh, that's too bad. Maybe the canyon will make you feel better! I'm sure Gypsy knows how to fix you! She glows blue!" She had spouted those words out just as Meso had pounced her. She let out a stunned yip and then tumbled underneath him, finally ending up underneath her rooster brother. She let out a little puppy growl as he began to chew on her ear, batting at him with her front paws.
"Mrrr Meso," she growled a little, batting him lightly. When she had had enough of his chewing, she coiled her back legs and then pushed them up, lightly pushing them into his stomach to push him off her.

The Alpha nodded his consent. "Of course, the pack could have use of your," The slightest pause. "wisdom, an elder wolf is needed to teach. We need you to become healthy though, you could be contagious. For the time being you shall be placed as a subordinate, and I forgo the mandatory joining spar. My mate might be angry if she finds out, but that's if she finds out." He winked, and offered the old wolf a smile. He had said the last part in an undertone so the scuffling pups would not hear. "Have you eaten lately, Subordinate?" He said, his easy manner changing abruptly into that of a leader.
Mesoforte let out a small 'oof' as his sister pushed him in the gut, and pushed him off of her. He tumbled sideways. "Hey!" He complained, looking at his belly. Her back claws had scratched him. He ruffled the feathers that covered his neck, giving him the appearance of a mane. "That hurt! I was only playing." He stuck his tongue out at her, and ran back to his father, just in time to hear that he had let the old wolf in. He let out a disgusted noise, and stuck his nose in the air, acting to good for the present company, and trotted past them. He sat with his back to them all.
Forte shook his head, disappointed with the stubborn little pup. "Excuse him." He said to Arseus. "He is a little high strung for his age. He will grow out of it soon enough." He growled the last part, making it sound like a warning. Meso, who was listening, only ruffled his feathers and resumed ignoring them.
