The large, bulky green wolf approached cautiously, head down, ears alert. His dark golden eyes flickered up and down, scanning the world around him. The land was dry, dusty, and a dull red color. His paws created faint footprints in the soil. Small, thorny shrubs dotted the landscape, and occasionally pricked the wolf's hide. But this did not even cause Yakone to flinch in the slightest bit. He was too tough for that.
As Yakone made his way around the rocks, the foliage slowly began to dissipate. Musty scents of many wolves wafted to his nostrils. This finally made his scruffy mane stiffen. Who could these strangers be? He began to lose concentration, and stumbled a bit. Perhaps a group for me to join? But what will this entail?
Suddenly, a new scent became clear - blood. Although very stale and apparently old, it was nothing to ignore. Instantly Yakone became frightened, and his pace quickened. The smell of wolves and the smell of blood both became stronger as the shrubs became less dense. Dried spots of blood began to appear on the rocks. What is this?
The scents became too strong, overpowering. A slope came up, and Yakone followed it down to a clearing. No plants grew here, and blood was splattered on the red rocks. His spine stiffened with fear. Where am I? What is this?

The early sun was beginning to disperse, and her black, silky fur was starting to radiate with the warmth of the rays. Perhaps it was time to move into the shade. Not that there was much around at the moment. Most of the plants in this part of the canyon had long since shriveled up since the peak of the summer hit. The only shade was behind the rock she was currently laying on.
With a mighty sigh, the graceful sennyo pushed herself up from her laying position. In her mouth she was playing with a long thin bone. The former owner of the blood splatter in the area. She alighted to the ground, spreading her butterfly wings out to only cause drag and make her appear to float to the canyon floor. She kicked a few more bones out of the way, nonchalantly attempting to amuse herself.
Her gem like blue eyes found a stranger a few yards away. A yagi. A preoccupied yagi. She raised a thin brow, her feather-light tail seemed to float behind her, the white tip flicking now and then. Her antennae came forward, the blue baubles bouncing slightly with the movement. A new male to play with.
She stood tall, ears erect and nose pointed to the male. She lightly tossed the bone to the ground to free her maw. It clattered onto the red earth before falling as silent as the death it represented.
"Who are you? Wandering so far into pack territory?" There was an icy edge in the fragile looking female's voice. Her eyes were cold as they looked over the male. What had him so worked up? | |
