Rayne
Small light brown paws padded slowly over the rocks, her movements where quick but they where careful as the small path that lead to the Cliffside cave was dangerous. It would have been faster for her to fly there, apart from the fact she didn’t really like to fly, and of course her ground bound companion who she hoped was still behind her and not plummeting into the sea.
Tail flickered being held higher now than it had been all day ,mostly because it was swaying this way and that as she used to as part rudder part balance beam. A few jumps over some rocks and she had made it to the entrance of the cave she had slept in the previous night, it was cold and bare her scent no longer there and yet it was the only familiar thing she had, the only comfort. She then looked back to see if Spice had caught up “This is it” I called to him before sitting and waiting for him to catch up.

Spice Thick golden brown fur was buffeted by a wind as Spice nimbly navigated the cliff. It was easy for him because of his second soul. A desert fox. And though this wasn't the desert he knew how to climb rocks. It didn't even matter that it was getting close to dark, Spice was a naturally nocturnal creature.
Heaving the jackalope corpse that Rayne had caught sometime earlier that day he pulled himself into the cave. The antlered rabbit was almost half his size. He wondered how he would eat the whole thing. He also wondered what Rayne would eat seeing as for some reason she couldn't eat this one. Scanning the cave he set the meal down. It wasn't too large though it probably seemed smaller to Rayne. It was bare and lacking much warmth but it was a shield from the elements. "This isn't bad," was all he could think to say.

Rayne
She turned and looked over her shoulder out over the sea and to the darkening sky “its nicer when the moon comes out” she said her voice almost dreamy, it really had been a beautiful night last night with the moonlight streaming in, and she hoped for the same again tonight. Her eyes then looked to spice and she couldn’t help but grin when she saw the size of the Jackalope compared to his small frame “it keeps you safe, and kind of warm” she said avoiding mentioning anything about how it would be a great meal for him, or anything that would refer to him being small, some people had a bit of a complex about their height.
Getting up from the mouth of the cage she padded inside past Spice to the back of the cage, turning when she got to the wall she slowly lowered herself to the ground and lay watching him. The smell of his small meal, well to her anyway, was suddenly alluring and her belly growled hungrily, but she knew one bite and she would feel ill immediately “don’t let me stop you” she said nodding to the Jackalope a small smile on her face happy to be somewhere familiar, well sort of, and to not be alone.

Spice Spice rolled his eyes at her urging him to eat right after her stomach growled. He didn't mention it though and dragged the thing farther into the cave. He consider circling it like he would sometimes do, but voted against it. He had his pride to consider. So instead he shifted and sat down and took a large bite that would be consider small to most. It was cold but still edible and Spice wasn't picky when it came to food. His tongue swept across his muzzle, a quite pointless act for he just got it dirty again with his next bite. During the silence he wonder where he should go he figured his father and one sister would be living near a lake of some sort. Their second souls were both water birds. He figured his mother and other sister may be in a mountainous area. They wouldn't have stuck together, their needs were to different. His ears flickered. Not for the first time he felt like turning back. He feared the answers he sought. Finishing as much as he could and rolled his meal over. He would finish the rest in the morning. Now he turned to his den mate wondering if she was still awake. Quietly he made his way over to her. It would be warmer if they were closer. Spice didn't need extra warmth but it wouldn't hurt to radiate some for Rayne. Scuffing his paws against the ground he settled himself down. His golden fox like tail curled over his snout but he did not sleep.

Rayne
Head lowered to the ground and her eye lids closed as Spice tucked into his meal, she could hear him crunching his food and decided now was as good a time as any to get some sleep, but sleep wouldn’t come. Her eyes where close, and even the sound of Spice eating, such a small sound wouldn’t normally keep her from sleep, but tonight it seemed it was going too. Maybe it was the thoughts of her past? Or maybe I was the thoughts of what she was going to do next, after all she couldn’t go back to where she came from, and yet she had no where but there to go.
One eye opened as she realized she may not find a peaceful sleep for a while yet when she noticed Spice next the her, her eye closed again and she smiled letting her tail flop around him at least tonight would be warmer with them both here. She kept quiet for a moment before deciding a little conversation may help them both “something troubling you Spice?” she asked quietly wondering why he was still awake, normally after a good meal any wolf would be asleep within minutes, but not tonight. One ear flickered lazily “or is it just to early to sleep?” she asked wanting there to be any excuse for her still being awake apart from her dysfunctional family.

Spice Tensing as Rayne's lion tail curled around him his gaze darted toward the brown Keiyou. Slowly he relaxed again and amber eyes wonder to the moonlight just beginning to seep into the cave. The smell of jackalope and sea salt filled the air. Spice breathed in deeply. Only his ears turned in Rayne's direction when she spoke. The air he inhaled seeped out slowly. "I'm nocturnal. My second soul is a Fennic Fox," he considered how much to tell her about himself. But if he wasn't able to sleep he might as well fill the silence for Rayne's sake. "They're desert foxes. My ears keep me cool in the day and my fur is thick to keep me warm at night. I did form my food, insects," he nodded toward the jackalope, "that's new to me, but not bad. Anyway it's also why I'm so small."

Her eyes where closed but her ears twitched occasionally as she listened to him speak, she was interested in what he was saying not that she understood it. A second soul? She wondered what that was, but he looked somewhat like a Fennic Fox and she wondered if it was something to do with that, she kept quiet even though she didn’t know not wanting to sound stupid.
“must be easier to hunt at night” she said changing the subject from what she didn’t know “oh I’m sorry I didn’t know … I guess it was rude of to assume that was something you ate” she asked wondering how he even managed to catch insects, to her they seemed faster than the prey that she hunted. She wondered if there where more Fennic fox out there for a moment and then decided this was a question she could ask “is there more like you? I mean Fennic Fox wolves …. Must be sotra lonely if there isn’t …. being awake at night and all.” she was intrigued by him, not only because he was different from her, but he seemed to know things, things about things that she wanted to know, at least she thought she wanted to know, the thought in itself had confused her.

Spice Spice turned to look at her incredulously. He studied her for a moment then determined that she truly didn't' know. It was kind of funny. Spice wasn't use to that emotion, or laughter. "You were sheltered a pup weren't you? I'm a Myou you know? Myou's they, well every one is different. There may be other fennic foxes but I've never met them." He wondered just where Rayne had come from. He was quiet for a moment. Studding the Keiyou again. His large amber eyes stared at eh face. His head tilted to the side in curiosity. Then suddenly he looked away. He had enough problems of his own, it would do no good to get involved with someone else. He had a sinking feeling he was already involved which annoyed him. ooc: Sorry muse died. And I was on a role too.

Rayne
Her eyes opened as he figured her out, she guessed she wasn’t all that hard to read. She looked to him for a few moments before her head lifted and her eyes looked out towards the mouth of the cave, it was dark now and she could see a few far off stars twinkling in the sky. Sighing a little she shrugged gently “I-I didn’t know there where anyone different, I didn’t want to say I knew you would think I was stupid” she said sighing gently and lying her head back down this time facing away from him.
Rayne had never thought she had lead a sheltered life, she knew a lot about a lot of things, but it seemed that something’s even her mother didn’t know or didn’t tell her, but then again she wasn’t her mother, and she seemed to have no problem withholding information. Her eyes closed again and she squeezed the shut as if to squeeze away these painful thoughts that came back to her again and again, slowly her eyelids settled but her eyes remained closed “so Myou could be anything?” she continued on trying to brush it off . Rayne thought that a species being able to be all different seemed strange, she thought that it would be lonely everyone having different interests and time frames, then again maybe it just made things more interesting.

Spice A sigh huffed from Spice. Great now he had made her insecure about herself. He hunkered down even more he resined himself to educating Rayne. She was going to need a lot of help now that she was out on her own.
"I don't think your stupid," he huffed," I don't blame you for not knowing the world. How old are you any way, a year or so?" He shook his head. He knew his words were... less than comforting. But it was all he had. He struggled for the right emotion. "Any animal that I know of. We take on it's characteristics. Like my sister had white wings but she isn't a Keiyou. And my mother has a cat tail instead of wolf." He wondered if that was enough of and explanation.

As he told her that he didn’t think she was stupid she lifted her head and pulled it around him until it was resting under his feet “really?” she asked looking up at him from the ground. She then kept silent and listened intently as he went on to tell her a little more than an explanation. He mentioned a sibling and only mentioning on she thought that it had only been the two of them as youngsters, either that or the one he mentioned was one he had been closer too, and then he mentioned his mother and not his father, to her this was odd. She looked down for a moment thinking and then her eyes returned to him “I understand, but doesn’t that make it hard for you to know your own species … because they can look like other?”
After her question she went back to thinking but her eyes stayed on spice, she had many questions to ask him, but knew too many wouldn’t be wise and chose a interesting one instead “so …. Are you the only different species? Or are there more out there?” what she didn’t know is she had asked the question with the longest answer. Her tail then moved over to him, pulling him tight for a moment before letting go almost in a hug only using a tail, she was glad he was there to teach her.

Spice Her affection was getting to Spice, making him nervous. Being nervous made him irritated. But most of all it made him afraid. He wasn't sure why these icky feeling were welling up but he didn't like it. But with Rayne staring at him and curling around him he didn't have the heart to snap at her. Instead he settled for a begrudging answer to her questions. "Yeah it makes it really hard," He mumbled. What he didn't say was that's why he was all alone. He was so different that his parents plopped him in the desert when he was old enough to survive. 'It's what's best,' the told him. Now the resentment was getting to him. So he moved on. No point dwelling on the past. "There are more. You know Keiyou and Myou. I met a Lupus once. They are odd colors and have elemental powers. Ceals swim. They are half fish in water. Lyxxus don't like being around other species much. Yagi have horns and green coloring. There's one, I can't remember their name, that can live to be over 200 years old. I know there is a plant like one that only lives for 5-6 years and a few others but I learned most of this though wolves lost in the desert."

She listened intently as he spoke wondering about each species as he talked about them, there were many and now she wanted to see each one for each interested her greatly “they all sound so interesting” she said quietly now wondering if they would find her as plain and boring as her childhood bullies had done. The all seemed so interesting where as Rayne thought herself plain and boring, and she also wondered if she would see another Keiyou ever again what with all theses other species running about.
“The desert?” she asked suddenly after he had finally finished speaking, she figured he would live somewhere like that but she was still a little amazed “I didn’t think anything could live there” He must have had a hard childhood, she thought trying to picture how she would fair in the desert as a cub “are you headed back there?” she wondered out loud her eyes flicking back up to him. After this she thought she would be done with the questions, she still had so many and yet felt like she had bombarded him with them tonight. There would be time for more in the morning, if he was in fact still there.

Spice He thought about the rolling sands and the waves of heat. That was all other wolves thought of the desert. But at night the place came to life. The temperature that dropped drastically and made it necessary for his thick coat. If others could see what he saw they wouldn't think so badly of the desert. "A lot of things live there. The desert is an allusion. We wait till the night, that's when we come alive." He yawned, reminding him of his off kilter sleep pattern. He had made a split decision to travel. He had been going sense the middle of the night before. Amber eyes were half lidded and his body sagged. "I don't know. Not for a while at least. I'm traveling. My parents thought it best to leave me there but I want to know if I can live outside of the desert. What about you? Where are you headed?"

Everything was but a allusion. She thought someone had said that to her once, when she was very small. It was true, that saying, people could show themselves as anything they wanted to be, but on the inside that may not have been who they were, maybe it should have been everyone was just a allusion. She pondered on the thought for a few moments wondering if Spice was just a allusion, was he really who he seemed? Or was she going to wake up missing some limbs? Her eyes closed and she scrunched them up, she didn’t want to think things like this, not now, not never.
Her eyes stayed closed but slowly relaxed as she listened to him sleep. They left him? Her mind seemed to shout at her, his parents left him in the desert, why would they do that? What had he done? No, no not him she was sure it wasn’t something that he had done, parents where mean they seemed to think they had the right to decide what was best for their children “least they didn’t try to kill you” she mumbled sleep taking over, and her fighting it all the way. She managed to keep herself awake for a few moments even though sleep was winning the battle “I don’t know where ….” she started yawning quietly “wh-where I’m going….need to find ….something …. Looking for …..home” she managed before sleep took her down. Her features settled and her tail that seemed to be constantly flickering lay dead on the floor, her only signs of life her chest moving slowly and her short breaths.
