Well, this idea has been running around in my head for awhile, and I figured that since everybody ELSE is getting in on the species game, I'd post this little gem. Feel free to help out, 'cuz I need lots of ideas X3
Name:
Blonaught (plural blonaughts)
Size:
12-14 inches, 11-16 lbs.
Lifespan:
As long as the light on their tail is burning (generally 50-60 years)
Pelt:
Soft fur, usually short. Seasonal pelt- greens and browns in spring and summer, reds, oranges, and yellows in fall and winter. Black or white is rare but can occur, and in those cases, the coat stays the same color year round.
Eyes:
Mismatched, one warm color, one cold
Strengths:
Very, very loud barks and howls, to make up for their size, the flame on their tail, which can light things on fire, small size makes it easy to fit into small spaces, suction-paws, able to climb trees, and the ability to run very, very fast
Blurb:
Blonaughts are ridiculously small. That, coupled with their soft, fluffy fur makes most wolves mistake them for pups at first sight. To make matters worse, blonaughts are naturally bouncy and cheerful, and love playing games. They are good at riddles, and are usually quick-witted, tricky wolves.
Due to their small size and general vulnerability, blonaughts have also developed suction-cup paws, which allow them to stick to any surface with ease. The cups are generally closed up so that they aren't slowed down when they flee or while they're playing, but they can be opened with barely a thought. They love traditional cave-dens as much as the next wolf, but since sleeping on the ground leaves a great chance for them to be mistaken for small prey or eaten by large predators greater, they prefer sleeping in tall trees, which they can scramble up and down easily.
The defining feature of a blonaught is it's tail. Long and thin, it works as a wick for the candle-like flame on the tip. This tail represents it's life span. When the flame goes out or reaches the bottom of the tail, it signals the end of the blonaught's life. However, the flame goes very slowly, and is resilient. It takes a lot of wind and water to put it out. In the event that the flame goes out and there's still any amount of tail left, and the tip of it is still hot, the wick can be re-lit (The wick stays hot for 2-3 years in normal conditions, 4-5 years in hotter conditions, and 1-2 in colder conditions). For this reason, blonaughts often seek the company of a fire-wielding lupus. However, if such a wolf is absent from the area, the tail converts itself into a lightning rod and when the next storm hits, there's an increased chance of the blonaught being revived.
LOTS:
Blonaughts have only just come out of their shells. They stayed away from the whole of wolf society due to constant torment for their small size, but it seems that the newer generation is interested in reforging ties to the outside world. This movement is led mostly by the younger generation.
As mentioned before, blonaughts are partial to lupus', specifically those wielding the element of fire, less so to water and air lupus'. They generally dislike caels and keiyous, because of their strong aversion to water or wind. Other than that, they get along just fine with anyone from any species. They aren't much into battling anyways, preferring to play games and doze all day to growling and fighting.
The blonaughts don't usually record their history, but they have a few tales of a tiny lupine hero who's name has been lost to time. The story goes that the original blonaught was a runty lupus who offended the Great Spirits, and as punishment, he was forced to forever watch his life ebb away on the tip of his tail. Unfortunately, rather than live his life in despair, the little hero ran about and spread his beautiful tail to the next generation, living his life happily. The moral seems to be that "Everyone will die eventually, and it's best to get in all the good stuff before your light goes out" (this is a looser interpretation, usually used by the younger generation).
Ummmnnn... I need help with the blurb and the LOTS. I have enough to pay for them myself, but if you feel like donating, donate! I'm trying to decide what to do about the lightning bit. Would they make a kind of mortui-type thing if they're revived after too long? Should they stay dead if a certain part decomposes? Help! Help!
