Another year come and gone

[Keely]

Violet eyes peered up at the sky, four tails twitched idley. For once she was not hyperactive, Keely was just relaxing. Perhaps she had finally matured a little...or maybe just mellowed out. Either way the small female was resting lazily in the sun. She had had a good meal and was ready for a nap. The sunshine colored female had a smile on her face as she was remanicing. Hard to believe that a year ago she was playing in the leaves with her daughter. She sighed happily and looked down at her descended belly. She was full from eating, but she set a brown paw on the cream belly. She wanted puppies again....Mimzy was half grown, she missed the tiny little things hopping around her. Keely rolled onto her stomach, of course the thrill brought a giggle to her heart. She stood up, then reared on her hind legs to bite at a leaf that came swirling down.

Her way was made noisy by the leaves she trampled beneath her feet, but she had no reason to conceal her movements here. She was home, just as she had always been. Her midnight blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight that filtered through the trees. She had not lost her sense of wonder at the world around her, and she took in the scene around her and smiled as she too remembered playing in the leaves. Had it really been a year ago? The past year seemed like such a blur. Mimzy had lost a bit of her hyperactivity, slowing down a bit in favor of taking more in. But when things were new and exciting it was hard to keep calm and she still acted on impulse, perhaps more often than she should. But for now there wasn’t much to think about and she hummed a little song to herself in time with the crunching of the leaves beneath her paws. Her brown ears perked at the sound of another nearby and she peeked around a tree just in time to see Keely bite at the falling leaf. She giggled in her lyrical way and ducked back behind the tree. Her mother had certainly heard her, but perhaps it was time for a game of hide and seek!

She did not need to look to know who it was, her daughter had a very distinguished laugh. She lowered herself back to all fours and looked over her shoulder. Where did she go? All four tails raised up and began to wag in different directions, she could smell a game in the making. Her little nose raised to the wind, attempting to catch the scent. The scent was close, she could not help but giggle to herself. She was on the trail! The yellow mother stalked around for a few minutes, she could see her daughters tail, but wanted to let the girl have her fun while she attempted to find her. She stopped in front of the tree, tails wagging. She herself attempted to hide on the other side of the tree. Slowly she crept around, as quiet as a mouse. "Gotcha!" She jumped out from behind the tree with a playful bark and growl to echo through the trees.

She crouched behind the tree, trying to stifle anymore giggles that would completely give away her position. She peaked quickly around the tree again trying to stay out of view. But her mother wasn’t there. She leaned out a little farther for a better look, and even took a tentative step forward to see if she was on the far side of the tree. But she still couldn’t see her mother. And if she wasn’t somewhere in front of her… Mimzy squealed in surprise and delight as her mother called out from behind her. She began to run around the tree they had been circling, looking over her shoulder and calling out in between giggles, “Can’t catch me!” Mommy had won hide and seek, but perhaps she would do better at tag.

[Keely]

She was almost full grown so it was more of a second to recover from the laughter. She dashed out after her daughter, loping steadily toward her. Her pelt seemed to glitter in the sun, she looked after her daughter, and for a moment there was a certain saddness. She looked like her father, Keely had not seen Fyodor for so very long. She pushed the thought aside, Mimzy needed her to be happy and strong. "I'll get you!" Her tails slowed her down a little bit, but she was still young enough for them not to hamper her too much. When she realized they were going in a circle she slammed on her brakes and jumped up in the air to spin around. Her own tails blinded her for a moment so she wobbled a little in the landing. ((Urg....I'm sorry Rose, I fumbled through this))

She loved training with Uncle Obi and learning things from Uncle Toby and listening to Mommy talk about the other Uncles she had never met. She loved singing and hunting and swimming. She loved flowers and dry leaves and bugs and birds. She truly didn’t understand how anyone could be unhappy with so many wonderful things in the world. Mimzy dashed around the tree. Truthfully, she was capable of going much faster when she wasn’t giggling so hard. Clearly she hadn’t fully absorbed the lessons Uncle Tobias had been trying to instill in her, as she barreled along without really thinking of her path or a plan. So when her mother stopped and reversed the pursuit, it caught Mimzy completely off guard. She skidded to a stop less than a foot away from Keely and beamed brightly. “Hi, Mommy!” she said cheerfully, as though this had always been part of the plan.

She reared back and pounced on her daughter playfully. She was surprised at how big she had become. Mimzy was almost as big as Keely, and still growing. She was proud of her daughter, and she was everything to her. She never could imagine a time where she was with out her. She gently pinned her daughter down and smiled, "Hi Mimzy!" She giggled in harmony with her poppet. With a playful nip on the ear, she let her daughter wriggle free and sat back, " Have you learned anything new you want to tell me about?" She loved encouraging her daughter to talk about lessons she had learned from her Uncles or anyone else. Reinforcing lessons would help her daughter in her life.

Mimzy loved learning almost as much as playing. She loved spending time with her family and loved making them proud of her as she learned new things. It was such a great feeling to be able to do something new. “Uncle Obi taught me how to pounce down on a target from up in a tree! It’s kinda hard, cause sometimes you have to wait a long time for something to get close, and you have to be quite or they’ll hear you which means no singing or laughing. And Uncle Obi says it will be easier in the spring and summer when the trees are full of new leaves to hide in, although the color of the leaves works best now for camy-floge since I’m orange and the leaves are orange. And it’s easier to hear things coming now when they crunch on the fallen leaves. It’s kinda scary jumping out of the tree, but it’s also really fun! I almost feel like a Keiyou coming down from the sky on the attack!” She sat up proudly. She had so much to say and got so excited that it all came out at once. “And later, Uncle Toby promised to teach me how to hide my trail, like from predators and enemies and stuff.”

Her violet gaze wandered up the tree that had been playing under. She was contemplating the attack strategy that her brother gave her. It was a good place to hide and ambush. Just had to be pateint. She found it hard to think that Mimzy would sit still long enough for it to be successful, Keely knew that she never could. She plopped down on her belly to continue listeing, looking attentively at her daughter and trying not to giggle at her enthusiasm. Hunting games would be very important for her, especially if something were to happen to the pack. Her four tails twitched as a shred of worry came to her. Maybe Fyodor wasn't coming home. She did chuckle at Toby's lesson though, "Well, that could be a fun game of hide and seek if you could do that. Mommy might not be able to find you very easily that way."

Learning things was so awesome! “I’m gonna practice extra hard!” she grinned slyly. “I’ll learn to hide so well, you’ll never find me!” She hesitated for a moment at that. Maybe she shouldn’t have said that. Mommy never talked about it, but Mimzy knew she was hurting inside. And Mimzy didn’t want to make her hurt any more. It was also a very sobering thought, the idea of going away and never being found. She rushed to her mother’s side and curled up next to her on the ground. She was far too big to curl up between her mother’s paws like she used to, and she missed that feeling of comfort. She laid her head on her mother’s leg, suddenly very serious. “Mommy? Promise you’ll always find me?” Her voice was small, but hopeful. If Mommy promised, then Mimzy would believe it forever.

However it did hurt her heart a little when her baby girl mentioned hiding forever. "I'm sure you will be the best hider ever. " She bit her lip, but tried to remain happy. Her clever girl could see though her and came to her side. Keely smiled and nuzzled her neck. She nibbled and licked a little in a short grooming session that strengthened the parent-child bond. She knew she didn't mean to hide forever, and the gesture of comfort was more appreciated than Keely knew. However, when her daughter looked up at her with that serious face she had to fight back tears. Her violet eyes glistened and she buried her face in her daughters fur, "Of course, Mimzy." Her voice cracked slightly "Mommy will always find you, I promise."
