Her soft pads pressed into the slightly damp, still somewhat frozen soil, and her muscles tensed slightly with each step. Soft jolts of pain coursing up her legs from the self inflicted injuries on the tender bottoms of her feet which were shelled in dry blood, chipping off with each step. This revealed the still bright pink wounds caused by the nervous gnawing of the femme’s teeth on the ends of her feet, also evident in the outrageously short metallic silver claws. These were at jagged points, barely beyond hitting the quick of the nail.
A soft sigh spiraled from the femme's maw as her mournful eyes peered up into the deceptively blue sigh, watching a lone bird soar high above; she wished with all of her being that she could be like the bird, free as the wind, without anyone to tell her what to do. She would do that, but she had a pack to think about, and being alone, quite frankly, frightened her. Now, if only she could find someone that grokked her existence...

High up in the sky, a small, dark auburn Keiyou fought to remain aloft. It was windy and cold, with few thermals to ride. Her red tail hawk wings were powerful, but not suited for long periods of flapping. She was getting tired and as much as she didn’t want to, she knew she had to land in the mountains. Bara hated mountains. Some of her earliest memories were of nearly starving as she had attempted to cross a seemingly never ending range of mountains. She knew the range in these lands wasn’t nearly as large, but she still didn’t like them. She wasn’t even sure how she’d ended up here, other than getting turned around as usual.
Her sharp powder blue eyes caught movement below and she headed toward it. Maybe it was something small and weak that she might be able to eat. She tucked her wings back and began a dive. The icy air stung her eyes and she fought the onset of panic. Blinking to clear them she noticed that the movement below wasn’t prey but another wolf. She tried to pull up, but only succeeded in slowing her decent a bit. She flapped clumsily, diverting her course from the wolf’s path and not-quite-crash-landed in front of her. She waddled about, turning to face the other wolf. She smiled a small, embarrassed smile. “H-Hello,” she stuttered nervously. The word stumbled out of her mouth, as though it didn’t really belong there. “Sorry. I’m not good flying.” The rhythm of her words was odd and they seemed to gallop out of her mouth at an awkward pace. She ducked her head down a bit, hoping she hadn’t already ruined her first impression. “Sorry.”

The femme's eyes jerked upwards to the vast expanse above her once again as the sound of beating wings began to descend upon her. These were not the wing beats of a bird, however, but a Keiyou. As her neck arced backwards, Cinderella looked up at the figure, which was smaller than most Keiyou, a dark auburn pelt gracing the petite frame, large wings spread parallel to the ground, until the figure above seemed to notice the fae whose feet were firmly in the ground - and always would be, unless, of course, you counted the sea as not being solid ground.
There was a sudden pause in the beating of the wings, and the Cael instinctively straightened her neck to its normal position, which followed the line of her spine, and took a few steps to the side; as a child of the sea, she was often mistaken for a huge fish, which was seen by many animals as food, and Ella did not want to meet her demise due to a mistake on the Keiyou's part, thinking she was food. However, the femme's heart was soon calmed, though, as she heard a flap of wings once again, and then a soft thunk on the ground as the Keiyou landed, stumbling a bit against the earth. One of the Cael's paws instinctively shot to her mouth, like she did when she was nervous, chewing thoughtfully on it whilst the Keiyou spoke, the words not quite so fluent upon her tongue as they would be on Ella's, causing the head of the fae to move to an angle of thirty degrees or so as her head cocked.
"Hello," Ella repeated the word of the other with a warm smile, letting her paw drop back to the ground. "It's fine, I'm not good at flying, either," the femme tried to make a small joke of it, but her eyes still gleamed with a warmness that showed the joke was not intended to be cold hearted or mean. "It's quite alright; it really wakes you up when something exciting like that happens."

Bara collected herself a bit more and took a proper look at the wolf before her. She was glad it wasn’t another Yagi, with their sharp, scary, pointy things. Although this new wolf was a good bit bigger than she was, like all the wolves in these lands it seemed, she seemed to have a kind face and didn’t seem angry at almost being ran into from above. Her warm smile put Bara at ease and allowed her to concentrate a bit better.
At first, when the wingless wolf mentioned flying Bara thought she had messed up yet again, either in speaking or comprehending what had been said. But after a short moment of confusion, the meaning sunk in and Bara grinned, less at the humor of the joke and more out of pride at understanding that it was, in fact, a joke. Which of course made it just about the best joke ever in her mind. The rest of her words washed over Bara. She understood the general meaning, if not all the exact words. The important thing was that the other wolf wasn’t mad at her and things were, for once, starting off well.
Her eyes were drawn to the other wolf’s paws. They seemed to be bloody and looked quite painful. Her own paws kneaded the ground in mild distress. “Eto…” she wasn’t quite sure how to voice her concern. “Paws and blood. Okay?”
