Name/Plural: Cruor/ Cruora
Size: 20-60 Inches Tall; 110-200 lbs
Lifespan: 10-36 Years
Pelt: Dark colours with oddly coloured strange markings
Eyes: Like there markings, start dark from the rim and grow lighter towards the pupil, a solid black is also common
Strengths: Intelligence, Hearing, Adaptability (if that is even a word)
Description: Cruor are rather odd looking wolves with hardly a way to describe them. One may say they are bat like while others may say they look more like a serpent. The oddest thing you may find about this species is that it has no front legs so instead it uses large bat wings that easily fold and reach out in front of the wolf to replace it feet using the knuckle (not exactly sure what its called) of the wing to walk hence giving it a very odd movement and this makes the Cruor unable to move swiftly or easily on land. These wings have strong bones and tend not to brake easily and the skin between each one is like leather (very hard to rip). They also have a large hooked claw that they can use to grab onto stuff and if needed injure another.
They have large bat like ears that curve and end in a point easily turning or swivelling. These ears are extremely sensitive and can easily become deaf by a loud or thunderous noise. Their sense of hearing makes up for their lack of sight for Cruor have poor eyesight, not blind but can't see long distances and can easily be tricked by heat and size/appearance of another wolf. Another odd thing about Cruora is its tail long and serpent like with the fur thinning until at the tip it becomes scaly but also has spines growing from the end and if swung correctly they would shoot from the tail and hit a target aswell as a direct hit with it (used more in defense than outright attack but can be used for attack, but this can be fatal or seriously injure if aimed well and in a bad spot). They start off with about 50 spines and three are shot out each swing and take about 3 days to grow back. It is usually difficult to aim these but a skilled Cruor would be able to. But they can only swing their tail in the air making them better at long range shots and air battling so when they are on the ground the most they can do is directly hit but this is usually more of a loss then a win as they lose a ton of spines by doing this. In this wolfs mouth you will find all the regular wolf teeth within except for the canines which have been replaced by thin almost transparent snake fangs that when they close their mouth the fangs fold up against the roof of their mouth. They can easily break but are replaced the next day. They also have the tongue of a snake aswell as elastic saliva that contains a small senative that can put one into a light sleep for the maximum a 5 min the time is lower for larger and stronger wolves/prey. The only reason they would need this is because Cruor live soly off blood bitting their prey and sucking it out of them until they have no blood left at all.
They have dark fur, any dark colour is possible really along with brightly coloured oddly shaped markings. These marking usually always tend to end in points and changing colour throughout. Ex. One may have a bright blue marking that fades into a navy or a yellow marking fading into orange. But they may only have one colour that fades into another as no other marking colours would work. This species can adapt to most anything given a second eyelid for sand and wind and fur that grows depending on the temperature as well as blood that keeps them just the right temperature in all weather. They also have the ability to survive without food/blood (they don't drink water) for over a week.
Lore of the Species: Cruor tend to live long and solitary lives, fearing they will not be accepted by other species for they are rather different and odd looking and usually becoming jealous of the perfection of other species. This species tend to live in mountainous areas where caves are plentiful and they can easily take flight from the rocks. The Cruora spend most of their time in the air as it puts quite a bit of stress on their wings to walk everywhere aswell as puts them to a disadvantage. Thier limited time on land also minimises their interaction with few others. This species is usually rarely seen as few pups are born with poor health and almost none tend to survive. They usually find it easier to hybridize than they do to mate with their own species. Usually hybridizing to continue their bloodline and hardly ever sticking around after or ever taking a solid mate. The Cruora are also extremely territorial trying to claim a land of their own and defending it with their life. So usually one must be cautious when entering the living space of a Cruor.
Reproduction Concerns: Due to them not having front legs it is difficult for them to give birth and mate so litters usually tend to be between 1-3 pups 3 being rare. It is less difficult for them to hybridize and litters usually end up larger with less of a stillborn and deformity rate.
Reference Pictures: None
I would like this species to be rare and maybe somewhat like a lumen not having to join a pack but if not its fine.
ALL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! I REALLY WANT THIS TO BE A SPECIES!
