Brightness wasn't sure what he was doing as he wondered out into the flowered prairie. His larger paws decimated the yellow blossoms as he trotted through. It was hot out here, hotter than the Children's territory where there were trees to take cover under. But the Children made him nervous. He could tell he wasn't truly welcome there. The Mafia smell had already begun to fade but what he was would never fade. At least not everyone there hated him.
He paused and thought about the wolf who had risked her life to save his. He had helped her back to her home but that place wasn't his home. It seemed to the golden hybrid that he was homeless now. Brightness shook out his heavy coat and beat his clumsy wings trying to cool himself down. A fresh scent of jackalope crossed his nose and his stomach rumbled. Brightness had been hungrier more often now that he was getting full meals. Or at least, he noticed his hunger now after being aloud to eat his fill. The once thin pup had begun to fill out into a proper wolf of almost two years in age.
The Yagi, Keiyou hybrid stalked the scent. He tracked the jackalope as the sun passed the noon mark in the sky. It was hot and Brightness was sweating but he refused to give up the chase. He would have to learn to hunt on his own if he wanted to survive. Once the jackalope came into view of his bright blue gaze Brightness used his wings to lift him up off the ground into the briefest of hovers. Quickly as he could he hauled himself up a few feet before diving down onto the horned rabbit. The small beast must have herd him because it began to look around franticly, unsure of which way to run. Brightness' large paws thudded onto it's back. There was a sickening crunch of the animals spine that reminded Brightness of his Mafia days.
The poor beast was still alive and Brightness' heart shuddered with pity as the jackalope tried to scramble away using only it's front paws. Swiftly, Brightness snapped it's neck and muttered a soft apology for it's suffering.

Stirring from his afternoon nap, Crow stretched and scratched behind one of his ears and when he was satisfied he laid back down and gazed at the sky and the wispy clouds that traveled along the horizon. Yes, today was perfect, a little hot, but perfect nonetheless to him.
Suddenly, it caught his umber orbs. A swift and vibrantly colored butterfly passed him. He slowly came into a crouched position and when the timing was right, he jumped for it. Barely missing the fluttering insect. Laughing and enjoying himself, the golden and forest colored Yagi chased after the bug. He was so concentrated on catching the thing he didn't even notice the wolf now in his path.
Crow leapt after it once more and suddenly was nearly atop the other lupine. He skidded to a stop and was only inches from the other. He smelled of a clan, but they were mixed. Could you be part of more than one? The Yagi also noticed another familiar scent a bit like his own. But this creature had wings and clearly Crow did not have the ability to fly... or did he? Mustering the last of his breath after panting a couple of times he asked.
"Are you like me? I don't have big wings like you..." The male Yagi cocked his head to one side in confusion. He sniffed the air once more and his mouth drooled. This lupine had just caught some fresh prey. Crow's stomach grumbled, he couldn't recall the last time he stopped to get a bite to eat. Being a loner for awhile and all, he kind of learned not to let his hunger get the best of him.[/scrolly]

The golden hybrid nearly jumped out of his skin as a Yagi, not much smaller than he, came barreling toward him. The young wolf maneged to stop himself before colliding with Brightness. He sucked in a breath under the umber gaze of the other wolf. Brightness hadn't really ever spoken to a Yagi before but already this one seemed.. off. Not as high and mighty and proud. But that could just be they way he was running around after a butterfly, something Brightness had never been able to indulge in.
"Are you like me? I don't have big wings like you..." The other male cocked his head to the side as he asked. The Yagi didn't have the distinct smell of a pack on him. Maybe he was a loner. Alone maybe, just like he was? Probably not.
"I'm half like you," Brightness choked out, his words half mumbled. He dragged his catch closer to him. It wasn't that he didn't want to share, he was just used to it being stolen from him. He was half tempted to take his prey and run back to the Children where at least they wouldn't attack him. Brightness swallowed the urge and bowed his head some, a reflexive action. "I'm a hybrid," He continued to explain," Half Keiyou, half Yagi."

Crow grinned, trying not reveal his grumbling pit below his chest. He had never met a hybrid before. Heck he had never met another Yagi before. He took this chance to sit near the other fellow lupine, to pose as no threat. "I wish I could fly, I bet it's fun. Ya know, to be all up in the clouds and stuff." he sighed as he umber eyes sparked with imagination.
"What did you say your name was again? I don't think we formally addressed each other..." his tail began to wag ferociously as he bowed his head down, revealing his ram-like horns behind his ears. "I'm Crow... nice to meet ya!" lifting up his head once more the young male Yagi panted. [/scrolly]

Brightness was getting more and more uncomfortable by the minute. Though this wolf seem harmless and friendly, if not a bit scatter brained, it didn't stop the younger wolf's instincts not to get close to anyone from going hay wire when Crow sat near him. The hybrid tried to slow his breathing and relax his shoulders as the Yagi rambled on about flying.
Then he asked for Brightness' name. And and he almost replied immediately. But how common was a name like Brightness Darkly? Could he be recognized just for his name? Would mother or Nightmare come find him?
"Um likewise Crow, I'm Bri." He shortened his name, the i having the I sound. He released the jackalope ,that was slowly loosing it's warmth, when his stomach growled. He took a bite, devouring fur and all. He had learned in his two years of life not to waste anything. Swallowing his licked his jaws. Then as a side note he nodded to Crow.
"If your hungry you can have some. And I can't really fly, I'm too heavy, and my wings aren't strong enough," Brightness explained, though he left out the part where his brother had no mercy when they 'play' fought.

Your one of the first to ever really share with me... the Yagi nodded back in thanks before tearing off a limb and chowing down. Man, he didn't know how hungry he really was. Lately it seemed he had been eating only once a day.
He got a surprised look on his face when Bri told him he couldn't fly. Wonder why he would carry his wings around then. Well, come to think of it Crow never really used his horns... unless by accident of course.
Maybe if Crow could get into a pack or make his own they could hunt together and all share food with each other and tell each other their stories? That would be fun. "So what's it like?" He paused before continuing. "being in a pack and all. Is it fun?" he just had so many questions lately.[/scrolly]

A warm feeling spread through Brightness' chest at Crow's surprise to him sharing. He understood exactly how the Yagi felt. No one had ever shared their prey with him before either, that is, until he met Moonrose. The young hybrid relished the moment a little longer as his companion ripped off a limb. He had never known it could feel this good to do something nice for someone else.
It was for that reason that Brightness felt a little guilty when he couldn't answer Crow's questions about packs properly. The one he had been apart of was vile and cruel. The one he was residing with now didn't trust him. And he didn't plan to stay for long. How could he? It didn't seem possible he could ever earn the alpha's trust. Besides that wolf hated hybrids anyway.
"Um, I can't really tell you much about packs. I haven't truly found one I like yet. Too much... bad history with one and the other, well they don't really trust me because of where I'm from," Brightness tried to explain without giving away too much. The hybrid realized he may very well have dug his own grave. With the way this wolf asked questions, being vague was bound to spark curiosity.

Maybe being in a pack wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Crow stood up as the breeze drifting by ruffled his fur and he got a stern look on his face, staring off into the distance.
"Then I'll just have to form my own pack! A pack where we can all live happily amongst each other. And... and.. well." he paused, sitting back down and taking another bit or two from the prey he shared. In thought he shrugged. "That's all I got. My moment in the sun has gone into the clouds. Crow laughed lightly.[/scrolly]

Form his own pack. Brightness looked at the other wolf like he was crazy. What would he do with his own pack? How could he take care of that many wolves? Then Brightness remembered the warm feeling he had gotten when he shared his meal with Crow. Form his own pack? One where everyone could live happily. Where no one could ever do what had been done with him. Where mothers loved their sons, no matter how weak or defective they were?
Brightness swallowed. The idea didn't sound half bad. But now Brightness was dreaming just like Crow, without anything to support the idea. Maybe when he was older. Maybe.
"I think your head is in the clouds," Brightness chuckled softly and took another chunk out of the jackalope. Though there was only fondness in his voice and some wishfully thinking. "Taking care of a pack is a big responsibility. You have to feed and protect them. Make sure everyone is getting along and keep outside threats away. And it's not like the one I'm... with, now is bad. They just don't like me," Brightness said reasonably. It was the most he had said in a long time. He almost hated how this complete stranger had opened him up.

"I don't mean to sound psychic or anything but from the way it sounds, it seems you've had it quite tough Bri... Crow trailed off and stared at the different shapes of the clouds. He might be a dreamer, but only if he didn't pursue his dreams. And the way Crow saw it, he had a long future ahead of himself. So he may just accomplish anything if he put his mind to it.
" I can tell I'm not the alpha type... if anything I would most likely be an omega." he huffed. Just laying there dazed for a moment or two. "Though I could easily pass for someone to confide in, I don't have the best memory and I've never really told secrets. I just like to make others happy and optimistic like me. Ya know? I don't want others to waste their life being in misery. There is so much more to live for..." he laughed again.[/scrolly]

Brightness watched as Crow exposed his belly, something Brightness would never feel comfortable doing. Too much of a risk, someone could easily pounce and rip out his guts. Brightness shuttered at the thought of it. He knew wolves who would do just that. Crow had obviously never met the Mafia to be this carefree. He was almost jealous. But he was also glad he was more careful than this Yagi. One day Crow was gonna get himself hurt, and he may not have anyone around to save him.
The golden youth eased himself into a laying down position. He listened to Crow ramble, letting himself enjoy someones company for the first time. He rested his head on his paws. The faint scars on his face had already been hidden by his fur, though he scratched them now for they itched.
"I," Brightness started and stopped. Then he started again strongly, "I could be an alpha I think. I could protect a pack with my life." But his conviction faded as he spoke. Could he really put others above his own safety? He thought back to Moonrose. He would protect her life with his own. And he thought about this new friend of his. He would definitely need someone to protect him.
" Maybe," he said," maybe I could be an alpha, when I'm older. And you, have got me talking way too much,"he grumbled. Crow was right though, there was so much more to live for then wallowing in the past.

He could see his friend being somewhat of an Alpha, you had to be serious to take that kind of job, right? That's the only reason Crow didn't jump at the word himself. This Yagi was waay to easygoing to be marching around all the time with his chest puffed out.
"I may have you talking but at least were enjoying it. That's what counts... right?" Watching Bri scratch himself made Crow itchy just thinking about it. Then a question came up to mind.
"Say, you dunno why I always lose my balance... do you? It's like my head is a huge rock with these things atop my skull." Crow itched around them with a hind leg. Even though they were his only means of protecting himself, sometimes he wish he weren't a Yagi.
He began to daydream again thinking what it would like to have wings or fins. He shook it off, he had to admit, he liked himself for the way he was too much to change anything about him that was so drastic, now that he thought about it deeply enough. [/scrolly]

At the sudden movement Brightness flinched, his heart speed and almost braced for and attack. It was all purely reflex and he calmed down once Crow started talking. The silly wolf was grinning like a mad dog. Brightness found truth in his companion's words. He had enjoyed talking to him. It was kind of nice to let his guard down everyone in a while. To be himself, instead of always bowing and sucking up to those how meant him harm. Maybe one day, if he spent enough time away from the Mafia, he wouldn't be so twitchy and always looking over his shoulder.
Brightness chuckled as Crow went on to talk about his horns being heavy. It reminded the young wolf of what he lacked. Being part Yagi there had been a chance that he could have grown horns but he hadn't. Instead he got these over sized wings that couldn't do much more than glide. And he was a bright golden brown. He had stood out so much in the jungle and in the valley's lush grass. Here, where the flowers bloomed yellow and the grass was brown with dryness half the year he blended right in. As if he belonged here where no pack roamed.
"Your horns are probably heavy because they are compensating for something else," Brightness joked, "Like my wings compensating for the lack of horns."

How were they keeping their balance? He just couldn't put two and two together. He took a deep breath, then sneezed.
Stretching back out in the wildflowers and yawned. Yup. A lazy afternoon with a friend, he liked this very much so that he would want to do it again whenever they get the chance to meet again. Considering he was a wandering loner he felt uneasy leaving him now. What if they never saw each other again? (This is a lie cause of our other thread P: xD!
