Step after step, wingstroke after wingstroke – Zan moved inevitably forward. He wasn’t sure where he was headed, only that he needed to go; needed to move on. He’d never been the type to sit still, after all, he had too much energy for that. He didn’t just want to be around other wolves, and didn’t just want to travel the land and fly and help others and chase and hunt – he needed to.
And so he ran, half trotting, half flying in an odd, bounding gait. He soared across the prairies and ran across the uneven, rocky terrain of the mountains; he ran through rainstorms and forests and rivers, still empty-hearted and lacking a family. Sure, he’d met a few stray wolves here and there, but pack life called to him. He missed it, being part of a family, being part of a group… and his Keiyou heritage only compounded the problem. The sudden lack of a stable family to call his own was a startling experience, and though it didn’t leave him unhappy or unstable… he knew without a doubt finding another would bring him even more joy.
The forest soon gave way to an open meadow, fed by a slow-moving river, and Zan eagerly fluttered into the clearing. It smelled wonderful there – he spent a good hour just wandering, his nose all but glued to the ground, tail wagging lazily. Other wolves certainly walked here often; the air was rich with their scents.
Wings folded, he rolled happily in the grass, covering himself with the musty odor of earth and grass and them. He paused for a moment, panting, and stretched his legs – the aching muscles, tired from such a strenuous trek, all but sighed with relief. With a wide yawn, he rolled to his feet and took a few tentative steps forward, sniffing at the air.
Should he… announce himself? Or should he go looking for whoever it was that must live here? His feet did hurt…
He decided to take a seat, wings half-folded behind him, and howl a greeting to the skies. It was a low sound, slowly growing in pitch and frequency as he held out the single, wavering note. The howl tapered off into silence and he bowed his head, letting the tune carry itself off with the breeze.
Hopefully someone would hear him – but for the time being, he would have to settle with resting by himself. He flopped lazily into the soft grass, tongue lolling from his open maw.

She made sure she kept the other Fighters busy with their regular duties just the same. There was no need for the pack to become lazy and let their guard down. Such things could lead to a devastating attack that would result in the death or injury of many. She trusted Kainashi would be able to help anyone who was injured. She smiled as she walked along the underbrush, the thought of her mate on her mind. She missed Kainashi and she loved him, despite the fact that they didn't get to see one another often due to their new ranks and more duties.
Evelyn came upon a field and froze when she caught the scent of a stranger. Though it was not uncommon for a loner to cross their lands, she could tell this male had been in the field for quite awhile. Her crimson eyes narrowed. She did not much like strangers, but she had promised Keinvarii that she would try to behave and get along with others. It was not in her nature to make friends so easily. It did not happen often at all. In fact, she remembered when she met her mate. She had been terrified of seeing another Lumen as the last ones she saw had nearly killed her. She did not like the memories of her old home, but she loved her mate to death, as he did not treat her the same as the others did.
She padded into the clearing and watched as the male proceeded to roll around in the grasses. She flattened her ears and perked an eyebrow in question. She wondered what the male was doing. He seemed to be of an average age from where she was standing, but she couldn't fathom why he would act like a puppy. She gave a smile, finding the act simply adorable in a way. She loved puppies, though this male was older than one, but it still made her smile. She watched as he sat down, then called out for someone to come find him. She laughed, "No need to call so loudly for someone. I'm right here." She paused a moment to see his reaction. "My name is Evelyn. I am the Master Fighter of the Philia Alliance. Now, why have you come upon our lands?"
