The sky overhead was beautifully painted with eggshell blue and salmon pink with a tinge of orange. The radiant orange ball was rising defiantly, pushing any remaining night stars away. The light of the sunrise was spreading far and wide, licking the red canyon golden. It was a stunning sight and it was a shame that a lone white wolf was lying belly down on the top part of the canyon, eyes shut and normally distant face so serene. It was as if all of his past experiences were erased from his brain.
The night moonless sky above cancels any of possible light shining down the earth yet an aged wolf is able to find her way through thick forest. Her shining amber eyes flash occasionally as she peers around her almost fearfully. Her normally proud stature is now crouching and wincing with every step. The only thought that flashes through her tired mind is: "remain hidden, remain undetected." One of her trembling paws snaps a lone stick, the cracking sound echoes--
Draugur's sleeping face twitched disturbingly.
-- through the forest and the aged wolf pauses in her walk to safety. Zeto has told her once she has seen a gnarled stunted tree she is allowed to heave a sigh of relief. She would know she is safe. There are wolves there who know how to deal with her pursuer. Her pursuer is a single young wolf but with deadly knowledge and a killing weapon. Okay, in fact he is the deadly weapon. From what she knows someone has hired the pursuer to finish her off-- A loud crack ahead interrupts her thought train and the wolf starts to panic and turns.
Beneath his white lids, his pale red eyes were darting around, frightened.
The white pursuer is gaining speed towards her, his tall body low and swift. Then a painful graze across her flank comes, and with it her blood start to boil. Soon her body is racking with pure pain--
"Get your fucking nose out of my memories, boy!"
That was when the albino keiyou woke; he woke with a start. The voice, filled with hurt and pain, was like a bolt in his mind. Sorry He replied in his mind guiltily. Draugur has been exploring his power for while; recently he decided to try and get into the memories of his spirits. He has had the permission to access into that old she-wolf's memories (among others) so far in the waking world. He didn't know that he could invade the spirits' memories while sleeping. The keiyou soon assumed it was because he has been focusing himself too much into the memories of the dead and, as result, got an easy access. Exact details he didn't know.
He stood up and started to shake himself before bringing himself to the edge of the cliff. Wondrous views of the grand gaping canyon were spread out beneath him but Draugur was busy preoccupying on what he did to notice the landscape. He thought the invading has been an accident, but was it really? But what he really knows is that this power has a love-hate relationship with its wielder.

Morning had broken, and for once, the pups were still asleep. The three had grown substantially now, and were beginning to eat solid food. This meant that the alpha was able to leave them on their own and go hunt. It was treasured time for her, having some time to just think on things. With Forte gone, it was her solely leading the pack. The weight of responsibility rested on her soulders, and so she needed to make herself more known. Hunting gave her solace and time to think.
She left the cave quietly, her paws making almost no noise as she moved towards the opening. A single look back confirmed the three were sound asleep, curled up against each other in the late summer air. One sight of the sunrise caught her breath in her throat, and she just stood, staring at its beauty. It wasn't very often things caught her like this, but having been cooped up for so long, even the littlest things gave her delight. But soon enough she had regained her composure and was off, bounding with glee up the staircase to the top of the canyon.
Moving amongst the rocks and debris was second nature to her now, having spent two years now in the canyon. Each step was like a good friend she was reuniting with, and she knew it like the back of her hand. It only took her a few minutes before she had cleared the top of the canyon. She was about to move towards the brushy landscape when something caught her eye. A white shape, larger than herself, dotted the landscape. She doubted she would have even seen it if it hadn't moved. Her eyes narrowed for a moment, and she tucked her throat to her chest, moving carefully towards the shape. Her wariness stemmed from the fact that most loners called out to her if they wanted passage and refuge in her lands. This wolf, a male, did not.
Her red body stuck out rather poorly in the landscape, but suddenly she was closer to him, hiding herself awkwardly behind a bush. From her position she could see the huge, white wings which extended from his body, his pure white coat, and... red eyes? She lifted a brow slowly; she had heard of white wolves with red eyes before but never met one. She shrugged it off though, watching him. A tingle sent her spine up, and soon incomprehensible words were whispered in her ears. Some sort of cloud was forming beside her. Rhiannon stared as the cloud became clearer, an unexpected brightness radiating from it. In a moment she could make out the muzzle of the wolf, and finally two large eyes turned towards her, staring at her. The intense blue gaze sent shivers down her spine, and its mouth began to open. Soon the ghostly figure was moving towards her, mouth agape. With little time to think her reaction through, the alphess yelped, bounding out from the bush and towards the keiyou before her.

That dream had made him think; if he had accidentally penetrate the memory of a dead wolf, think what else he can do with his power. That idea gave a smirk on his face; those useless wolves would soon realise their mistake in replacing their previous High Chief with a... a coward. Now that he spent more of his waking world thinking about necromancy he started to think that there were little or no limitations to what he could do with it.
A small discomfort began to distract him; the corner of his left eye was blurred with a spirit wanting to talk to him. The familiar dark female wolf, not the usual old wolf (he assumed that she was sulking somewhere) sniffed sharply, her body was aligned into a crouched posture. This meant... There were spirits around him with a host. Not Draugur, but another. But a cry behind him gave him no time to acknowledge what he had just found out.
Before his life as a High Chief, Draugur was polite whenever he entered a pack's land. He would behave submissively whenever a pack member found him trespassing and he would give them his excuse (whether he's hungry or passing through). He would leave if he was commanded to. But now, after being a High Chief, the power had gone to his head giving him a sense of importance. This sense of superiority influenced him to think, since he was an ex-alpha, that he would be allowed to enter any land without grovelling. The idea that he would continue to need to have permission to pass through didn't occurred to him even once. So having a crying wolf dashing toward him was a shock to him. Her scent was the same as those found along the borders; the canyon's pack.
Draugur leapt off the edge in alarm and immediately opened his mighty wings and started to, in a poor attempt, hover around the edge, a safe way from the crazed red wolf. Now that the albino keiyou was a safe way away from her, he started to wonder if this was the one who possessed spirits. She was a small red... myou (he assumed thanks to her unnatural build and markings).
When the shock had completely left his system Draugur began to scream at her; "What the hell do you think you were doing?! Are you off your mind?! If I don't have those wings, I would end up an ugly splat down there and you'll have another spirit on your paws!" He spat those last words without intending to do so before snapping his jaws shut abruptly.

Having only recently discovered her powers, and, at that not even realising they were powers, Rhiannon was a walking firecracker. Her powers were volatile, and she had very little control over them. The occurrences with the spirits had only happened twice before, and only under situations of dire stress. Why then were they occuring now? She had almost nothing on her mind, save the pups... life was turning around. And yet a spirit had surfaced, scaring the living daylights out of her and sending her towards the keiyou.
Thank goodness for his wings, for as Rhiannon moved towards him he would have knocked over into the canyon if not for them. Instead the keiyou had leaped up, opened his wings and hovered awkwardly next to the edge. Rhiannon rolled, her back end coming upwards too far and causing her body to move further than she had intended. She found her hind end slipping off the edge of the canyon. Letting out a loud snarl, she squirmed onto her stomach, grabbing the rock with her claws and hoisting herself back onto the solid surface. If she had let her body fall any longer it would have been a much trickier manuever.
But all was not lost and soon she was back on her feet, but of course, not without the keiyou's voice booming around her. She swiveled on her heel, turning to face the keiyou as he screamed bloody murder towards her. Her nose wrinkled in distaste, eyes narrowed - how dare he speak to her as such on HER territory! He was the one trespassing. She growled, her hazel eyes focused on him, tail high in the air. Something seemed to stop her though from fully chewing out the male; perhaps it was the regal disposition he had, or the confidence he seemed to exude. Either way it seemed to bring out the... better side of Rhiannon, despite how utterly displeased she was.
"I might ask you the same thing, keiyou," she hissed, her voice low, "trespassing on my la-" His words hit her like a ton of bricks. Spirit? Had what she had seen been a spirit. Her anger died down completely, and she just looked at him with a strange, suspicious expression. "Spirits?"

[scrolly:h(412), w(340),sy] Draugur hovered clumsily somewhere above the jagged ending of the cliff edge, his wings battered against air heavily as he struggled to lift his body and remained in a place. It was a funny sight, a small white keiyou with large wings fighting the air to stay mid-air. Keiyou weren't meant to hover or they would have a pair of wings similar to those of hummingbirds. If you look past the odd hovering keiyou you'll notice that Draugur was silent. He was more or less shaken by this surprise ambush. But this wasn't just a defensive wolf being territorial; for just a split second he saw a jolt of shock in her dark eyes. But then it could be anything but there was something chilling on her face that unsettled him. It was a face of a terrified wolf.
But there wasn't anything apart from him and the spirits. Was this wolf delusional? His eyes and nose didn't tell him anything new since her and her spirit's arrival. He watched her rolling over the edge and didn't even twitch slightest bit. These things happen and in this case, the blame rested solely on her. Yes, Draugur was in bit of a huff; he didn't like being shocked and shaken. To his surprise, she regained her mind and had her paws catching hold of the edge and started to scrabble. He just watched her (slightly nervously) clambered over the edge to safety with a twitching tail.
A sneer made its way to his handsome but aged face as she started to realise that he was a trespasser. "So it wasn't me." He thought aloud. Despite his small disappointment his curiosity was piqued; his myou wolf wasn't spooked by his presence so what was it? With amusement, Draugur observed the female, she was very red, matching her anger with her eyes shooting daggers at him and tail sticking upward. A scornful grin crossed his face once again. He knew she couldn't touch him thanks to his wings. But then he would be banned from another land. With a chuckle rumbling inside him, Draugur realised that he had a price on his head at his home. Who knew?
His grudging amusement was interrupted by this female's words. And by his old spirit's words. Confusion began to overwhelm him as he was forced to hear two voices speaking at the same time;: "I might ask you--" "Don't you realise--" "--the same thing, keiyou," "--what was she--" "trespassing on my la-"
|
[/i] Her words ended abruptly, not by him, nor by that old hag but by herself. With the sudden end of her sentence his spirit stopped talking. Draugur was thrown off when the myou's anger dissolved quickly. What...? His wings allowed him to land almost awkwardly before her and looked at her with his unnatural eyes. She replied with a suspicious glare. "Spirits?" What? The words of the dead hag fitted together just like a complete jigsaw puzzle. She didn't know? She really didn't know? He couldn't blame her. When he met his first spirit, a brother of a wolf, Shano he was completely dumbstruck and clueless. Until the next spirit decided to tell him that she was dead, and the way she spoke... So casual and conversational. Even now, Draugur didn't know why she told him that in a such way (but he assumed that she wanted to scare the keiyou). He freaked out briefly before putting pieces together. "You didn't know?" Oh! Her spirit scared her, didn't it? "You honestly didn't know?" He said in an incredulous tone. How could she didn't know?! Now he almost felt sorry for her, living alone with strange wolves that no one can see popping in for a visit. "Yes, spirits. Of dead wolves if you didn't know what they are." He was silent for a moment then: "How could you did not know?" He was very interested in spirits and how they... 'live' on in some wolves. How they didn't... explain themselves to her interested him. He wrinkled his pale nose and his ears twitched to show that he was so desperate to know her answer.
