The black keiyou patrolled the prairie restlessly flying at a breakneck speed as he desperately tried to escape his own thoughts. Like a debilitating disease the female lurked in his thoughts on a constant basis, destroying his sanity ever so slowly as Valkyrie fought a dying battle to regain his composure and his life. His eyes were bloodshot from a lack of sleep, his ordinarily shiny pelt was haggard and dusty from his wandering and his voice hoarse from growling in frustration.
The day loomed gray over his head, casting the prairie in a desaturated glow that much reflected his current state. Ever since his last encounter with Sandra he could not seem to escape the scent of the myou, the sound of her voice and even the sensation of her soft fur against his own sleek pelt. Like a nightmare he fought to wake from, the scenes of the event replayed over and over in his mind never allotting the male reprieve. Even during his few sleeping hours he was plagued with visions of having failed to save the female, watching with helpless horror as Sandra plummeted below and knowing that her body lay broken on the hard surface of the rocks below; his fault.
However, once and awhile the Great Spirit would take pity on Valkyrie and gift him with the dream of laying peacefully at her side and in these visions he could once again feel not only the comfort of her body against his body the peace of knowing she was near. The dreams were so vivid he could hear her breathing and smell the scent of her clearly instead of barely being able to grasp the illusive scent in reality. Illusions, Valkyrie thought darkly as he opened his wings to land among the flowers. With a graceful thud his paws were met with earth as he once again became a land dweller. The beauty of the flowers meant little to the tormented soul as he hacked viciously at them with a swipe of his razor talons.
It was not like him to be this aggravated over a female, especially Sandra. His long tail flicked out behind him, marking his distinct anger. Growling out in a dangerously low voice he raised a leg marked his territory, trying to gain control over something. Unable to stand still he paced, leaving dusty paw prints in the ground as his sleek body moved further into the distance.
Valkyrie had left the canyon, hoping the geographical distance would separate him from his thoughts, but to no avail as the gap between him and Sandra only seemed to worsen the symptoms. He knew they could never be, there had never been such an unlikely pair before! Sandra would never submit to him, he knew that now, but could he accept it? Perhaps it was best for the both of them if he did stay away? All these thoughts ran through his head, and for their sake he wanted to be the stronger one.
Oh but the voice of hope, and maybe that of insanity, always whispered that he might know as much joy with her as he did in his dreams. That little nagging presence that caused Valkyrie to almost turn about and search out the myou. The voice that always kept the male on alert for any signs of the female, only to be crushed by the voice of reason day in and day out. It could never be, Sandra despised him and he, well he could never convince himself that he despised her. In fact he cared too much to even admit it, for both of their sakes.

Her wings were stretched out on either side of her, pressing down on the grasses and plants with such ease that it was almost pathetic at how weak they could be. The smells were calming and when combined with the scents of coming rain, it was definitely a relaxing thing for the female. She had been overworking herself too much lately. Between being Gamma and helping Rhiannon with everything and stressing over things with Valkyrie, she was not too sure what to make of the world around her right now. Things were just...numb. She didn't feel happy or sad or anything of the sort. It was rather strange, really, as she was usually a bubbly being of sunshine all the time. It was weird.
Her ears pricked up in surprise when she heard something land not too far away. Of course, she was laying down in the grasses and could not be seen so well, so it was no surprise that the male did not notice her. As she peered closer with her pretty amber eyes, then she realized who it was and felt several major conflicting emotions spark within her chest. She didn't know what to think of the male, really. She wasn't sure that she disliked him, as it seemed that he had grown on her, and that she was beginning to like him more than just a packmate and a friend. Of course, Estoni was the one who had pointed this out to her before and she had almost hated coming to learn such things. She did not want to admit to herself that she was in love with such a...monstrosity, as others would put it.
Sandralina stood up slowly, padding over towards him until she stopped a few mere feet away, simply watching with a gentle understanding for a few moments. She was not sure how to act, either mean or kind. Valkyrie was something different to her and he provoked reactions and thoughts and emotions within her that not even she could describe. She swallowed the lump in her throat and watching him slash the flowers, mark his territory. As revolting as it was to see, she could not help but sigh lightly, knowing that he must have had his reasons for being this way. Well, at least he wasn't ripping apart the face of another pack member right now or, even worse, herself. The last thing she seemed to want was to be on his bad side. As of right not, that seemed to be unavoidable.
"Those flowers never hurt you, you know..." Her gentle voice said, just enough to catch his attention. If he were to turn and look at her, Sandralina turned her head away, staring at nothing in particular. She would not be able to meet his gaze, not with the way she was feeling about him right now. "Are you following me or something, Valkyrie? I hope you know that's a rude thing to do, especially to your Gamma."

Then there it was, vivid and caressing as the calm voice that he could never quite get out of his head and it washed across him. He froze in mid swipe, saving more flowers from a violent end as his claws lay extended from his raised paw. It would be something the Myou would say, the likeliness to reality his mind had created was concerning, and he almost kept walking when he heard the voice speak up again confirming his worst fears and his greatest hopes; Sandra had indeed spoken. Turning slowly he came to gaze at the female that had robed him of sleep and sanity, his tortured gaze refusing to meet hers.
Turbulent icy waters was what the myou might have seen, their icy cover broken by the raging storm that she had ignited. But Valkyrie was cautious to guard this, but a brief glance upward was what he gave before redirecting his attention back to the ground beneath his paws. The determined keiyou knew he would have to work hard to maintain distance and so with a half hearted energy he managed to straighten his posture and pull back his shoulders. The result appeared as half hearted as the attempt for the male was in much too much of a scruffy state to pull the military composure off.
In a bland voice that he tried best to use to cover the emotions that threatened to over boil he replied, "They'll grow back." The response was rather devoid of his usual tact, a mere non committal response to simply try and appear composed. Trying his best he snapped back, "I do not waste my time following." In truth he would easily follow the female no matter where she went, if not in person then in spirit, but he hated to admit this even to himself. The male knew no other way then to react without emotion and with discipline, it was his experience and it was his way of coping.
It did little to appease his guilt and he could not leave it at that, somehow he needed to see, needed to know what Sandra was thinking, or perhaps it was feeling? Approaching the Gamma slowly he came to sit a couple feet away, wings tucked in dejectedly at his side. In a softer voice he added, "I was just ...getting away. And what about you Sandra?" He came close to cursing himself for not using her title, but the name felt good on his tongue and it had been a while since he had been able to say it out loud. But who was he kidding? There was no room for this softness, if if was to save them he had to be firm.
The inner war raged on stronger, and the voice of hope spoke much stronger in the presence of Sandra making it near impossible for Valkyrie to hold on to his false anger and disgust. How could this work if he couldn't keep strong? It would take little to make his defense crumble and part of him sincerely wanted the myou to do just that so that finally he could come to terms with it all. Maybe it was fear of what he could not control that truly held him back, fear that even if he did leap he might fail and they would both fall. But how good it might feel to relinquish control and enjoy the feeling while it lasted.

If it was physical, a flight or fight response ensued. If it were emotions, that person was a jumbled mess with nowhere to go and with many things to trip over as they attempted to find their way out of the never ending maze that consisted of emotion. That was at least how Sandra felt about the situation. Trapped in a thick web that she could not escape no matter how hard she struggled. The more she struggled, the more that web wrapped around her, keeping her from moving around freely. It restrained her in more ways than one, though did not stop her from doing her duties as Gamma properly, but there were things that she had trouble doing just on her own.
She managed to turn her head to Valkyrie in time to see him try to regain some sort of military composure, pulling his shoulders back and trying to stand straight. Even to the female, she could tell it was a weak attempt, meaning something was bothering him. Her heart ached slightly, wanting to know that pain, and wanting to list that pain from his shoulders. She knew she did not like to see him like this, she wanted to keep things all right for him. She had to wonder what truly bothered him, though. He was fully capable of being strong and alone, supporting himself. Yet, here he was, seeming weak as though he were being thrown underneath the weight of a boulder. He seemed to be struggling to get out, fighting just even to get some air so he could breathe. Was that her fault?
Sandra snorted lightly at his comment about the flowers. She knew they would grow back, but that was no reason to destroy their beauty, seeing as winter was approaching and if they were killed now, they would not grow back for many months until spring came again. "They will grow back, but not until spring. Winter approaches." That statement in itself would have been explanatory enough for the male. She knew he was smart enough to figure that much out. He was not an idiot, all things considered, despite that he was as aggravating as ever. "Then how is it that I arrive here this morning and, come afternoon, you show up? Is that not following?" At this point she was only teasing, getting back to some of her usual ways slowly, and only wanted to bother him.
Her breath caught within her throat when he moved towards her, stunning her somewhat. She was not sure how to react, for her emotions were already on a high whenever she saw him just across the field. He sat a few mere feet away and she tore her gaze from his, not able to hold it with the strength that she used to. Sandralina felt herself step back slightly, shifting her weight restlessly and somewhat nervously. "I was...j-just thinking." She had been thinking, indeed. About him, about her family. When the thought of her family came to her mind, she suddenly remembered that she had told Valkyrie about her past. Guilt rose in her chest, wishing she hadn't have done that. She didn't remember why she had told him, but she knew he had asked. Of course, she was unsure if she regretted it or was simply embarrassed. Estoni observed them silently from Sandra's mind.

This was good, Valkyrie could reply to this safely and he almost breathed a sigh of relief, though whether it would be relief or resignation one could never tell. "Sometimes the old needs to die to being in the new, frost will kill them soon one way or the other." What did it really mean? Perhaps Valkyrie was referring to the old him slowly dying to bring in a new one? Valkyrie himself would not understand such matters, but it certainly left room for musing deep within the back of his mind.
His gaze now under some semblance of control he glanced solemnly at Sandra, tired eyes facing the female. Could he muster the nerve to retort? It now bothered him to hurt Sandra's feelings, but maybe if he gave a shot at his old self it would all fall into place. "Apparently we have different opinions of following. If I was following you, you would not know about it. And if I were following what is to say it would not be to ensure your protection Gamma?" Turning his head at an angle he regarded the myou with the hint of his usual glint in his eyes. What the did not entirely realize was that he was actually returning the tease in his odd fashion, completely unable to retort with as much cold frankness as he was use to doing.
The faintest smile tugged at the corner of his maw, a crooked grin that barely graced his face in the darkening day. The myou seemed almost flustered by his approach, Valkyrie supposed it was out of character of him to be acting in this manner. But it was her that caused him to act this way, could she not see what effect she had on him? Valkyrie was never out of character, never in shambles and never so torn! Bothered eyes bore into Sandra, no, he did not suppose she could and probably Valkyrie was quite alone with this sensation. Treacherous females and their sneaky ways of destroying male sanity, for all he knew the little she-devil had planned it all.
And as soon as the little spark of angered flared it was suffocated by a heavier feeling Valkyrie could not identify. This thoughts were irrational, with no basis or foundation to stand upon. Perhaps if he'd had a voice to talk to him or experienced the emotion to some degree before now he might have recognized it and even come to terms with dealing with it, but alas he had neither and was left stumbling without direction in the dark. He watched, feeling almost hurt as Sandra inched away and he raised a paw as if to recover the distance, but lay it back down gently on the earth.
The cooling breeze tussled the white fur along his neck as his slim tail twisted about behind and the clouds passed by unaffected by his problems. Valkyrie wished he could take flight and let the wind carry him away, calculated movements that might help him to regain his thoughts. But there was a sinful almost painful joy in being in her presence that kept him well grounded and quite unable to move away. In a more quiet voice he inquired,"And what thoughts would you be contemplating?" It was a potentially dangerous question in nature, but the keiyou could not stop himself from asking.

Such a contrast, like night and day, light and dark, white and black. Living and dead. She honestly would have preferred that he had not destroyed the flowers, for she would have liked to see them around awhile longer and not die so early within the season. Of course, it wasn't that early within the season, what with winter coming and all, but it would probably take them longer to grow back. That meant there would be one less patch of beauty to gaze at upon visits. Not that she would have much of the time to do so anyways, but she still cared enough to at least think about it. Being Gamma was harder than she had realized. The duties were higher and she had tons more responsibility. It was good to get away like this every now and then.
She snorted lightly to his rhetorical question, knowing that is something she would have usually done, but it was rather light hearted. "Protection?" The female Myou questioned gently. "Since when do you protect the likes of me, Valkyrie? Have you softened?" Estoni laughed lightly, tweeting with amusement in the back of Sandra's mind. She found her host rather amusing some days, even when she was trying to be funny and promptly failing. Perhaps at that point it was just the failing part that amused her, nothing more, nothing less. However, Estoni was an easily entertained bird, for she would be able to find interest in the littlest things, even the things most others found absolutely boring. That was just the way she was.
Sandralina saw him lift his paw after his strange smile, almost seeming to want to reach out to her, to recover the distance that she had put between them. She was not used to this sort of thing and honestly did not know how to react when this happened. She had not grown up in a loving environment, other than herself being the way she was, so she did not know a single thing when it came to this. She knew lack of love more than she knew love itself. She knew love from Rhiannon, whom had accepted her into the pack and allowed her to see her sweet pups. She was honored by many of the things the female had done for her, especially considering she could be rather annoying to anyone else. She had been to Valkyrie when they first met, but only because there were things on her mind making her a tad more snappy than usual. Of course, she probably wouldn't have liked him regardless.
Intuitively, her dark colored ears pricked and listened to the sound of the nearing thunder, turning her head towards it. Her nose twitched when she could smell the rain getting closer, darkening clouds ready to break above them. Flying was not safe at the moment, and shelter would need to be found soon. Scanning the prairie, she spotted a rather large tree, which seemed to provide plenty of cover. She would dart there should the rain start. Softly, she turned back to him. "It's going to rain..." That had been more of a mutter to herself. She felt herself tense uncomfortably at the question he had asked. Sure, she had shared her history with him once and was not keen on doing it again, but they had been delirious from exhaustion when this happened, so she wondered if he even remembered it. A drop of water hit her head. "N-nothing... It's n-not important anyways..." 'More like no one would care to hear it, so I'll keep silent about it.'

Softening? Valkyrie gave a barely perceptible nod, in many ways he had, but anyone stuck under the iron clad grasp of whatever was ailing the Keiyou would undoubtedly suffer similar symptoms. It was a reasonable conclusion, he supposed, but he was also fairly sure he had softened toward the myou, somewhere in between despising her and saving her he had grown soft. Not a safe state to be in all considering. Glancing up his steel gray eyes met with the darkening gray of the clouds, searching in them for answers he could not perceive.
Perhaps this was a curse from the Great Spirit, chastising Valkyrie for his lack of servitude and faith? The keiyou did not believe in a pre-ordained life, he directed and guided his own actions and outcomes through carefully selected options and well prepared calculations. His eyes flashed out defiantly, and with his head raised he had unconsciously taken the pose that he chose before difficult battles; one that defied failure and accosted fear, daring to face what was deemed impossible.
All he received in response was blasted rain, falling to slide down his aristocrat snout as though to mock his show of defiance. Silent and invisible his unidentified tormentor ignored him and his plight. Curse them and this...this feeling, Valkyrie snarled silently. How could he fight what could not be touched, smelt, or seen? The keiyou had helped win many battles and spent his life fighting and never before had he met such an opponent.
He returned his gaze to Sandra and regarded her in an almost kind manner, eyes softening around the cold edges. Everyone needed protection, it was his job and his calling and his sworn creed. "Everyone needs protection sometimes, there is no shame in that. Surely you cannot think me so dastardly that I would not seek to protect? It is my life's ambition in many ways..." His response was honest and true, though his cold exterior spoke of frosted ways and a careless disposition it wasn't entirely so, in fact he had to remain so indisposed to protect himself. When raging a war to protect those that needed it there was much devastation and heart wrenching sadness to be witnessed. His training had involved building a solid barrier against the darkness so that the designated wolves could operate objectively. Did this make him the same monster that he had so often fought?
Valkyrie noted Sandra observing the tree and as it really was the only decent cover it seemed they would both have to share it. The rain was coming down more steadily, and he turned to make his way over with a slight tilt of his head to indicate where he intended to go. However, before moving forward he turned his head to say, "It is to me." With that simple admission he marched over to the tree, lean and toned body moving rhythmically as he was at ease with his own power. Crouching slightly he moved under the low branches to ease into the middle of the tree where the branches folded down like a canopy against the rain, watching and waiting to see if Sandra would follow. The space was sufficient for two wolves, but would not fit anymore and might even be crammed considering the nature of their interaction.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,422,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb390/Bluewillowtree/Sandramid.jpg]Her heart twisted like the swirling rapids of the river, moving and churning uncomfortably as though it were in a rush to be somewhere. It beat fast, pounding in her chest and causing her blood to flow faster, which in turn forced her breathing to speed up a little ways. She hid it by keeping her mouth closed, focusing on getting the oxygen through her nose. She did not want to reveal her anxiety with the situation, as she was ready to explode with her emotions enough as it was already, and she did not want to worry him of her condition. It was strange that he seemed to care, that he seemed to want to make sure that she was all right. She was not used to such a thing. From a female like Rhiannon, that was one thing, but from someone like him, all things considered, it was rather paranormal.
When the rain began, the female felt herself flinch from its sudden appearance. It pelted her back and wings, sliding off as though there were some type of shield there. She lifted her wings and folded them together above her head, forming a temporary umbrella until she could make her way over to the tree. She almost wanted to laugh at the way he responded to her, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips profusely. She had to push back the giggle that was working its way up her throat and she could only bring herself to sigh lightly in reply. "I do not find you....dastardly." She used his colorful choice of wording in something akin to mocking him. "No... You're just a pig-headed jerk." A tiny smile set on her maw, remembering their first meeting.
The rain was beating down harder now, and she was all too keen on getting to the tree. She loved the rain, but in this particular moment, it was being rather annoying to the world. Or at least it was to her. Here she was attempting to have a conversation with someone she was really not too excited to see and the rain decided to fall down upon them and spread it's wet joy. She sighed and turned to go to the tree, but halted when he went ahead of her. His words before his retreat had stunned her, forcing her into a frozen position right in the center of the field. She blinked several times, soaking in the words. Honestly, if they had not been spoken, she would not have believed it any other time. Even if someone else had told her, she would not have believed it. It had to be said from him, and it was, so she was shocked.
Sandralina finally regained her composure and walked off towards the tree, wanting to gain the cover from the rain that her folded wings were not providing her. She dropped her wings, allowing the rain to hit her head as she did so, and picked up her pace into a light trot to reach the tree faster. She paused at the branches, hesitating before she went in. Her wings were tucked against her sides tightly as she crawled within the shade of the tree. She remained as far from him as she could, despite the body heat she could feel from where she stood. She shivered, realizing how cold she was, but stopped near the trunk and laid down, curling around herself to keep herself warm. "No. It's not important." She was insistent on keeping the subject away from him, hiding her past again. She had been delirious the first time, but she wasn't now.

Valkyrie was well pleased to see Sandra join him, in fact the word was more akin to elated. Heart pounding his veins filled with adrenaline and he almost groaned as his nostrils flared catching her scent. Bittersweet was the word for the situation for as much as he was in terrible discomfort he was also incredibly at ease, the presence of the myou familiar. Avoiding allowing a splitting grin from appearing in relation to his relief he merely gave a tentative smile at the myou's arrival. He saw her shiver and even twitched to move closer before restraining himself. What good would it do? After all he was nothing but a pig headed jerk, which in his vocabulary transcribed to dastardly and repulsive, point blank.
Raising a brow he noted, "Pray tell what is the difference? T'would seem we both have this pig-headed, as you have so delicately put it, genetic tendency. Though tis a pity though not so much a surprise that my qualities also seem of a repulsive nature." In return he mocked her use of layman's terms, only to expand the use of his own unusual vocabulary. In fact it seem that even their speech did not correlate, among the long list of things that could simply never work in harmony. And even this frank reality could not serve to extinguish the pulse in his veins as he became all too conscious of the female at his side.
Her golden gaze seem to elicit a terribly powerful response that now that he was left vulnerable only seemed to intensify with the growing heat in the air. Taking a sharp intake of breath he could not help but keep his eyes transfixed on the sleek and graceful shape of the she-wolf curled up so near and yet so far. The rain on her pelt formed crystal droplets that only served to reflect the luminous shine of her dark pelt and her curled up position summoned basic male instinct, pulling at deep rooted needs that were never meant to be ignored. Valkyrie had been holding his breath and he let it out slowly now, completely stunned by the rush of desire. Blinking rapidly he cleared his eyes that had blurred over with the attack on his control.
He had not realized that he had inched closer, now lying down in a semblance of a relaxed position, his tail spread out beside him as it thumped and twisting on the ground with Valkyrie's growing restlessness. Trying in vain to hold on to sanity he had dug his front claws into the earth. Whatever could he possibly be thinking coming under this tree with the object of his current troubles? A volatile situation that left him wanting things he could not have, and the need was beyond basic lust, completely a mystery to the Keiyou.
Sighing softly he let the matter of Sandra's thoughts go, deciding some thoughts needn't be shared. She had told him her story and yet he had nothing to share in return, having decided of his own to join the military pack and follow his own chosen path. No tale of woe darkened his past, no story of abandon tainted his trust, and no count of horror blackened his spirit. Thunder rumbled nearer now, flashes appearing through the tree branches and as the sound of rain falling down on the branches it all seemed to violently protest the situation.
This was not what he had wanted, Valkyrie never relinquished control, never had any desire to do so. Up until now that is, and every fiber in his being screamed to stop thinking and start feeling. His lack of sleep did little to help the situation and his already jumbled thoughts created a fog that could not be dissipated. "Are you afraid of me Sandra?" He moved ever so closer, the teasing note in his voice a blatant surprise to him. The myou made him say things he would never even have thought about saying before, and he would not begin to contemplate his actions.

Honestly, she would have preferred to not have these feelings at all, for she did not know them. They were a foreign thing to her, the only kind of love she had ever received being from her brother, a crocodile Myou. Granted, he was just as cold blooded and heartless as her parents were. He showed love only to her because they were siblings, sharing a bond like no other. Siblings were strange in that way. Even if they bickered and argued so much in their time together, they were still connected on a deeper level than friends and even than lovers. It was one of the many mysteries of the world, something that would probably never be solved.
She released a slight laugh at his questioning upon her statement, though said nothing for a few moments, contemplating upon the best reply for the situation. After all, she was not one to take to losing so kindly, at least on the inside. He was just giving her something to think about, rationally and irrationally. She had to think every single way there was just to make a better answer than one that he could come up with. Sure, she was pig-headed, though she rather liked to call it stubborn more than anything else. It was just a nicer word. For the fact that pig-headed had come up, there was the difference in personality between them. She was light and bubbly and he... Well, he was just really a pig-headed jerk. There was really no getting past him and his ways, especially when he was so adamant in his position about them.
Sandralina glanced at him. "Call it pig-headed if that is what you prefer. It can be called anything. Stubborn, for example. The difference between you and I when it comes too the word "pig-headed" is the fact that you come off as a jerk to a lot of people, while I come off as a Myou with ADHD." That was the simplest way she could describe her view on it without causing offense to anyone. Besides, he had wanted her opinion on the whole thing, so she was simply giving it to him with full force. Lies were simply something useless to her. She found them completely unnecessary when it came to practically all things in the world. It only sugarcoated the truth and when the truth was found out, then it hurt so much more than it would have if it had been told in the first place.
She watched him with suspicion and mild curiosity while he laid down and slowly inched closer to her. Her dark, wet pelt bristled slightly, uncomfortable with the silent movement. She somewhat feared the unknown, not wanting to get involved with things that could possibly harm her. The unknown was something she could not defend herself from, for she knew not of its weaknesses, its strengths, and the way it would act. Many things were unknown in the world to so many people, and it was difficult to see them struggle through it so much. All she wanted to do was know what was within the unknown, though she was very well aware that such a thing was deemed impossible. Of course, she had a feeling she knew his intentions has he moved closer, but could not be entirely sure, so she remained motionless.
Sandralina felt the feathers of her tail twitch uneasily at the question he asked, though she found herself slightly offended. She was only afraid of a few things, and she had not revealed them to anyone, nor did she have any intentions upon doing so. She narrowed her eyes slightly, presenting something akin to a glare towards him. "There are only two people I fear, and you are not one of them. If I deemed it necessary, then I would not hesitate to engage you in a fight." She spoke the truth upon this, as this is what she would do to anyone who posed a thread to the pack. The last thing she wanted was for traitors within their ranks, especially with Rhiannon's pups around now. It would be important to make sure they were safe. Her expression softened slightly, "I do not fear you, Valkyrie, but I do fear the reactions and emotions your very presence provokes out of me."

Curious to hear her response Valkyrie was not surprised when she made the analogy and comparison between them, accurate as it may be it certainly elicited a rare smiled from his face. “Although that may true it certainly is more efficient and amusing to be a jerk. Though I am of the opinion that the words you search for, and that are more appropriate are dedicated and firm in one’s ways. ” Eyes alight with a faint spark he continued to pester the myou, making a rebuke once again to counter Sandra’s words. The rebuke however was odd, for he had not denied her accusations but rather transformed them to his will and his liking.
Valkyrie was rather efficient at transforming situations to his liking; it was a simple matter of altering the facts and changing the lighting, or the point of view of said facts. Having moved past fear of the emotion that ailed him the militarized keiyou was now in full exploration of the enemy, testing the limits and trying to find a weak spot from which he could attack it and eliminate the horrid symptoms that issued as a result. It was this desire to test the boundaries that caused him to act in such a peculiar fashion with Sandra, he did not fear what he did not know, but he certainly despised it; it was by exploring the unknown that he would master and conquer it, much as his own platoon had been responsible to do, though it was more in terms of lands and territories rather than emotions.
Ever the frank fellow he addressed Sandra’s response in a precautious manner, “Now you simply have mistaken the question, I have not the least doubt you would rise to the physical challenged that a sparring might provide, however I ask more of then that.” Her next response however answered this efficiently and he nodded in apt satisfaction, precisely the answer he was hoping to elicit. He could never be the first to admit a weakness of this nature, however he could follow suit should someone divulge the truth before him.
“Very well, you do not remain alone in this admission. The similar ailments that appear to ail you also plague my mind on a rather continual basis. Sleep does escape me, and the nature of this reaction, the root of it if you will, completely evades my attempts at finding it.” Valkyrie’s lack of sleep was indeed starting to affect his thinking and he was beginning to divulge information not characteristic of him in the least. “By why fear such reactions? Do you know what you do to me? I think you might be killing me…”He gave her the briefest of glares of reproach, “But you might enjoy that I suppose.” He laughed the sound low and almost painful in nature, not quite the sanest of responses.
“I think…I think…that you are awfully striking. Yes, there, you see? Disquieting madness, but there it is. You are beautiful.” His jaw snapped shut in a desperate attempt to impede the flow of words that might ensue and for the first time in a while his heartbeat rose, beating in rapid succession as he glanced hopefully at Sandra. Surely she would have something to say theat might put an end to the ridiculous feelings and thoughts twirling about in his head. It was painfully obvious he must be alone in this matter and opinion and perhaps his hasty words had been an attempt at self sabotage.

She would let it pass, the debate about the stubbornness that they both faced in their lives. It seemed to be something completely unavoidable, especially when they found themselves somehow together. How they ended up this way so often befuddled her most days, though she was definitely a strong believer in the Great Spirit, often finding her comfort in praying to the deity. She wondered if this was His doing, knowing very well that he was the greatest Matchmaker and ruler of all time, that none would ever be able to rise above Him. Even Estoni believed it was the Great Spirit's doing, causing the two of them to cross paths so often and to alter their feelings in such a way. Of course, the feelings were more left up to the wolves themselves, but the Great Spirit was a clever being.
Sandralina's ears twitched in utter curiosity and shock upon hearing what he was saying to her, about his feelings being messed with as well whenever they were around one another. At first, she had not taken him as the kind to share his feelings. Frustrations with someone were one thing, but feelings were another thing that she never thought she would see spew from him in such a way. Why fear such feelings? It was a good question indeed, and even she couldn't be sure as to why she felt so much fearfulness of these things stirring within her stomach. "Maybe it's because the word love is not something I know. Perhaps I am afraid to know it." She was only assuming this, knowing that it could very well be the case, all things considered.
When he said that she might enjoy killing him, a snarl graced her face and a growl tore from her throat immediately. Not only was she offended by the statement, it caused her worry and pain. She would never hurt anyone without needing to, and he was certainly the last person on her killing list, if she ever had one. "Don't you dare say things like that." She growled angrily, "I would rather save a life than take one." Estoni was silent in the back of her mind, knowing that the female was officially pissed off. Of course, she had intended leaving the Prairie without being on bad terms with the male, but there was a pretty fantastic chance that it would not be happening any time soon. Everything he said just found a way to irk her in the biggest form.
Furiously, she huffed and turned her head away to gaze at the falling rain with her blazing amber eyes. Her fur was fluffed out defiantly, showing that she was clearly not pleased with the situation or his words. As of right now, she was seriously fighting the urge to snap at him, nick some skin off his muzzle or something. Not that he could do anything about it, she was the Gamma for a reason. However, what he said to her next stunned her in every which way. He...thought...she...was...beautiful? The thought rang over in her head multiple times, clarifying each note and tune that was in them. He was being truthful and her ears flattened as she turned to gaze at him. Her own skin was on fire, thinking of this compliment, his thoughts, and his words. She was shocked, yet she found herself asking, "R-really...?" Flustered, her neck craned slightly to reach out to him, scooting closer. Her tongue flicked out, catching a drop of rain upon his brow just before it rolling into his eye.

ooc: Finally, finally I have answered, curse the killing of the muse.
There, she had said it, the feared and cursed, the powerful and the strong, the torturous and the agonized, the hopeful and the freeing; Love. Eyes fiercely observing the wolf in front of him, Valkyrie held on to every word frozen where he lay. Knowing what ailed the keiyou and defied his attempts at freedom was a must for the militarized male, without knowledge there would be no victory and no way to escape. He had certainly seen it time and time again, young bull headed wolves that failed to stop and make a reconnaissance before charging in, placing not only their fool hearty lives at stake but that of their compatriots and civilians. Death was usually the result, and Valkyrie sincerely hoped that would not be the alternative to refusing to accept this thing called love.
Sure, he was new to it, having never experienced the emotion himself though as an after thought he supposed he did feel love for his work. However he had certainly witnessed the powerful force time and time again; it was what kept families and friends together in times of trouble and allowed the other soldiers in his platoon to persevere knowing that they would see their mates and pups when they came back. Morosely he also noted it triggered desires for revenge and bloodshed, the strong pull of the emotion when disrupted elicited dangerously violent responses.
Nodding his head a slight crease appeared on his brow as Valkyrie began to wrap his mind around the concept, his reflection having helped him to realize that even though love could cause phenomenal disasters it was also the counter to these destructive forces and ultimately, though a volatile element, if properly wielded seemed to result in more good then bad. So lost in contemplation was he that he barely noticed that Sandra had not taken his comment about death too lightly. "But maybe this is why we should know it, perhaps this is the very reason for how can one conquer the unknown without knowledge and experience? Surely such a force cannot be all that destructive; a lot of souls do engage in its practice without horrid consequences..." The keiyou let the sentence hang as though the discussion was now within himself.
Another realization dawned on the male, late in coming but none the less just as powerful an impact as it should be. Sandra had made reference to her feelings as being the product of love, did that mean that she was implying she might love him? And consequently if her emotions were a direct reflection of his own he could deduce that logically what he might be feeling was love as well. Contrary to what he would have fore-casted his reaction to be he felt no repulsion, no despairing shock and no more fear. The knowledge of what he was feeling was freeing in many ways, lifting a weight from his lean shoulders and allowing room for progress. "Love appears to be it, the symptoms and signs are plainly written and the results quite indicative." Although his admonition was not poetic nor romantic is what at least honest and sincere in only the fashion that Valkyrie could conjure. As it were he had reciprocated his affections to Sandra and was now left stunned but free.
The light touch of Sandra's tongue on his brow caused a shiver of heat to flash down his spine, and his breath caught in his throat. "Twould seem so, but much more then words." He lowered his head, keeping his gaze on Sandra's amber one and softly licked her paw, a gentlemanly thing to do, running his tongue lightly over her wrist. As the tree was enveloped in a thick cocoon nothing reached his ears from the outside except for the rhythmic fall of raindrop and the continued crash of thunder. But now the inside of their reprieve was warm from their combined body heat, creating a fog around Valkyrie's mind that shielded him from the cold edge in his own heart.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,422,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb390/Bluewillowtree/Sandramid.jpg]Her heart was pounding such a massive uproar within her chest that the sound blasting within her ears almost blocked out everything else around her. Every instinct, every fiber within her very being was screaming something at her, something that she could not bring herself to understand. It was screeching at her of the words she had spoken, of the one that had slipped from her tongue so strangely, that seemed so foreign to her. As she spoke of the word love, she felt as though she didn't really know it. She showed love to others by being perpetually happy towards them. She wondered if that was the kind of love that she was feeling for Valkyrie right now, but she knew no other kind of love, as she had never received anything but hate from those she had in her life. Her family had only ever beaten down on her, except her brother.
"I am well aware of how dangerous love can be... I know I have given it, shown it to others, but it is a rare occasion that I do get it in return. When I was living with my family, the only thing I was ever given was a form of hatred, except from my brother. There is no bond like that of siblings..." That seemed to be the case in most situations, for it appeared as though a sibling bond was stronger than any other one in the world, even stronger than that of mates. It was a strange thing, something that existed beyond the borders of the physical and the mental, something more akin to the emotional. Siblings seemed to know how one another thought, acted, and did things so well that it was incredible. It was almost a supernatural glue that stuck them together so tightly.
Sandra wasn't too sure how to take his next sentence, turning her own thoughts against one another to decide how she truly felt. Her heart sped up, her breathing became labored, and she found herself constantly self conscious whenever he seemed to be around. What did that all mean? Of course, the little barn swallow in the back of her head knew all about it, having seen things herself that her host hadn't. 'Dear, just admit it! You love him, and he's right, you know. All of the symptoms are completely clear. Just ASK him already!' As much as the second soul could worry her, she decided to take the female's advice and her voice came out softly, "Does that mean... I should say that I love you?" It was an honest question, showing her clear confusion with the situation.
The soft caress of his tongue across her paw, her wrist, caused her to lose all senses for a moment, mind going blank and ignoring everything around her. It was a strange feeling, one that was warm and tingling as it crawled up through her body, heating her up just a little. She never broke his gaze, though, finding it difficult to look away at that point. So distracted was the female that as she slowly came back to her senses, lightning flashed nearby, followed by a massive crash of thunder. It hurt her ears and startled her greatly, causing her to jump and run for more cover. After a second, she realized she had curled herself into Valkyrie's side, hiding half of her face in his fur, panting heavily with a wide gaze. She tried to calm her heart down, but was anticipating another sound such as that one. She was not too keen on thunderstorms.

The storm that ragged outside caused his fur to bristle with an energy only found in the wildest of natural occurrences, filled with a powerful jolt of adrenaline that ran through Valkyrie's blood faster with every jolt in the sky. Ears pricked forward at rapt attention the sounds of the raging weather matched the beat of his heart as it rang out strong in his chest with every passing moment. There was always a rush when exploring the unknown, a slice of anticipation at the cutting edge of a pivotal moment during an operation and this same sensation seemed to ring true even for the strange emotions that remained turbulent in his head.
Free from whatever restrictive bonds that had been latched to his soul he felt his spirit soar, as if taken to the sky though his feet remained firmly planted on the ground. To a large degree the impassive Keiyou was at heart a bit on an adrenaline junkie, but more so a controlled one that knew how to receive the best jolt with the highest probability of success. However the ever present possibility of failing miserably under the circumstances seemed to magnify that feeling of soaring untouchable and raised the stakes. Valkyrie felt as though he had much more to loose now then he had ever before in his life, though he could not put a name to the invisible goal.
The male knew no sibling bond, let alone a family bond as he had left and not looked back, too absorbed with becoming better at what he did in his new life. Training occupied any space in his mind that might have been filled with longing for his family and his brothers were his comrades. Though the bond was not one of blood it certainly was a strong one for their lives depended largely on the efficiency of their partners. Still it could not be entirely symbiotic of a true sibling relation, he supposed, but it was a bit of a window into what that world might look like.
Sandra's question posed a trial for the male, how to answer was the challenge at hand. Taking a breath he began slowly, "I cannot very well tell you what you should do, though I can but say follow what you feel is right I suppose." Noticing Sandra's discomfort in the face of the storm he nuzzled her ear comfortingly, under their shelter they were relatively safe. Lifting one large black wing he rested it on the other side of the myou, forming a protective tent as if instinctively homing in on the side of him that needed to comfort others. His mannerisms and methods were cold, but his heart was in the right place.
Valkyrie had been in some of the darkest of places, fought with some of the most destructive wolves and survived some of the most perilous ventures at the side of his comrades, but never had he felt so right then at the side of Sandra. As for him, his heart was set, like a animal awakened from hibernation it knew the right course to follow once revived; the path that the Great Spirit had dictated for every single one of his subjects. He was not much of a worshiper, he did not engage in spiritual practices but there was undeniable a certain logic within the chaos of the world that led one to believe there had to be a certain plan. For one of the rare times his voice softened and warmed as he spoke, "As for my part, my heart lies with yours."
