There she sat, worrying. As she stepped up onto the tree stump, her paws shook. This was the most afraid she had been in years. Before her sat five wolves and a black dragon, all blindfolded. The Jury. She swallowed, and waited for someone to say something. "You have been summoned here for a reason, Equilibrium. Do you know why?" One of the wolves said. All the wolves were white. Why was the dragon black? Equilibrium gulped. "I-I'm here for an indecent that took place 20 years ago. The death of Sena." She said, her voice shaking. The wolves murmured. "Is it true, that you left her, even though you had a chance of saving her?" Another wolf said. "No!"Equilibrium said, then more quietly, "I would've died." She looked at the blindfolded wolves, waiting for a response. "Are you sure?" Another voice said. The crowed parted. There she was, sitting next to the dragon. Equilibrium looked away. Sena was horribly burned. The dragon hissed. Sena paused, then spoke again. "You had time, Equilibrium. Why didn't you save me?" Equilibrium's ears went back against her head. "You were there! Sena, I'm not guilty! I didn't kill you!" But Sena didn't listen. The wolves looked at each other, and took off their blindfolds. Equilibruim gasped. They were her victims, all of them. They had no eyes. Where are their eyes? "You are guilty of murder, Equilibrium!" The words echoed around the clearing, and the dragon smiled. "No! Wait! Please!" The dragon opened his mouth and fired.
Equilibrium awoke to complete darkness, gasping. She looked around quickly to check her surroundings, then relaxed. It was just a dream. She said to herself. Sena still haunted her dreams, now even more than ever. But this was the first time her victims had shown up. She stood up and shook out her fur, looking out from the rock she had climbed on, trying to find a constellation to distract her from the dream. She shook out her fur, fluffing it out to protect against the cold night desert winds. An owl hooted. Equilibrium lay back down, reassured that she was safe and in real life, and closed her eyes. A good dream always came after a bad dream, like a blanket after freezing in the arctic. She would just do as she had always done in the past when an obstacle showed up. Adapt. But even so, as she stared into the inky blackness under her eyelids, the words kept on echoing in her mind.
Guilty...
Guilty....
Guilty....
