Narration "Talking"
[color=000066“C’mon Mari… Snap back into reality.”
|
The faded Cael’s eyes were closed, and they were darting rapidly under her eyelids. Her paw twitched, tightening the rope-like seaweed around her body. Her tail was gripped tightly by slicing-edged seaweed. Her lungs were searing with pain; she had been trapped underwater for more than an hour. Oomara had been swimming rapidly for the fun of it, and ran into a blindserpent. It almost knocked her unconscious but her adrenaline was pumping, so her reality hung on by a thread as she whipped and sped away with the red beast following behind her; snapping it’s jaws inches from her thin tail. Fear laced every fiber of her widened copper eyes. She looked back for a moment, noticing it had slowed down and lost interest when -SLAM- she ran head-first into a coral stone. From there she fell unconscious and sunk into a seaweed forest, not realizing this species had slicing edges when you tried to get out. And she was wrapped tightly in them.
Her eyes snapped open, and panic threaded every fiber in her body. She forced herself to stay calm as she looked at the wrapping and started pulling gently at the ropes. They cut deeper, and her blood floated into the water. She furrowed her brow in frustration and began gnawing on the weed. It did give way and the wraps began to loosen. But her tongue was getting sliced up all over; her own blood tasted sour. Eventually it was loose enough for her to rip herself out, cutting her skin in many places. She sped to the surface, and took in a rasping breath of air. Blood dripped in the water, and she painfully swam to the shoreline where she dragged her bleeding body onto the land and collapsed from exhaustion. She panted, and her copper eyes began to glaze over in subconsciousness. She lay there, between reality and dream, wondering how long it would take for her to heal or for something to find and kill her…
Her vision swirled with colors of purple, blue and silver as she looked around; from the soft sands that crept into her pelt to the palm trees that shaded her body from melting. After about an hour or so her back legs had dried and formed normal wolf legs. She tried to stand up, only to fail miserably. She collapsed again, her maw open and tongue lolling. She gave one more attempt, and stood on trembling legs. She took a few shaky steps forward before picking up her clumsy pace to go lay on a pile of large fern leaves, her blood dripping on the sand and leaving a glittering scarlet trail.”Oh I do hope someone can help me soon…”[/blockquote]

A white fawn sprung from the undergrowth, leaving its hiding place behind. It rushed through the trees, fear for its life pushing it to the fastest speed possible. Running behind the young animal was a black wolf with hunger in his fiery golden eyes. Air went in and out of his open mouth at a fast pace as he pursued his prey. Tsunami was ravenous for something other than fish, and when he happened upon this fawn he simply couldn’t help himself. His webbed paws thundered against the ground as the chase went on. The speed of the young mammal surprised the hunter, but he continued in spite of it.
Tsunami had the white animal beaten when it came to endurance, and soon his prey began to slow down. His hot breath fanned against the fawn’s hind quarters. He was so close, he could practically smell the adrenaline and fear radiating from his soon to be meal. His jaws clicked together as he bit down. He had only gotten a small piece of flesh from the fawn, and the taste of the fresh meat made his mouth water. Tsun hadn’t realized how well his hunger served as a distraction, until it was too late. His paw caught on a large root that stuck up from the ground and he faltered. In that moment the fawn picked up speed and dashed away. The male growled in frustration and embarrassment then stalked back toward the scent of the ocean. “Looks like fish is on the menu.” He grumbled sourly.
The rusty, tantalizing smell of blood reached the black wolf’s nostrils and he licked his chops. Maybe he wouldn’t have to resort to seafood after all. He trotted faster toward the beach, hoping that perhaps the fawn had collapsed from blood loss. It was unlikely, but a wolf could hope.
What he saw when he emerged from the tree-line both surprised and disappointed the male. It seemed a wolf had been injured and chose a pile of ferns to rest on. He relaxed slightly, what did he have to fear from a battered female? Then Tsun breathed in sharply; what if whatever had injured this female was still around? He looked around suspiciously then scented the air. As far as he could tell, they were the only two around.
The male loped toward the pale blue wolf, his eyes looking over her body to assess the extent of her wounds. “Are you ok?” A redundant question to be sure, but he didn’t really know what else to say.

Narration "Talking"
Oomara's swirling vision locked focus when she saw a black and white wolf emerge from the trees. Still in shock from her wounds she flinched back into a sitting position, her eyes wide. Her copper orbs gazed back at him as if he was going to attack her. When he walked up to her she clumsily stood up and backed up a few feet, her legs trembling. She noticed his golden eyes looking over her body as if assessing his appetite. Purple swirled to black and Silver turned to rain in her vision. She shook her head, snapping herself out of the vision. She tried to look calmly at the other wolf, but her heart rate decided differently; the organ pumping blood gushing through her veins, dripping from her open wounds. He spoke to her, and it took a moment for the blue female to realize what he had asked. Her fear was not hidden in her voice as she stuttered.
"Oh umm I-I was attacked b-by a blindserpent in the water and was knocked u-unconscious then when I woke up I was wrapped in slicing s-seaweed that cut me up all over and it stings really bad and..."
She began rambling on, her voice cracking and rasping from fear and rawness. She seemed to have cottonmouth and flicked her tongue in and out to re-wet her teeth and tongue. The male didn't seem like he was going to hurt her, so she collapsed again on the edge of the seaweed. Her tongue lolled from the side of her mouth, and her eyelids were drooping from exhaustion. If she wasn't careufl she'd fall asleep and in her mind, she'd never wake up. Her copper orbs snapped open and she looked softly at the black male.

Tsunami listened to her babbling on about how she wound up as a bloody mess, and nodded every few seconds when she said something coherent. He hadn’t seen many blind serpents and had never had an encounter with one, so Tsunami harbored little fear for the predator. He silently wondered which had done more damage to this female, the serpent or the seaweed?
“Uh..is there anything I can do for you?” He walked closer to the cael, his pawsteps soft so that he wouldn’t scare her. Tsunami didn’t actually want to help, but he felt obligated to at least offer his services. After all, there was no one else around to take care of Oomara. Tsun had caused the deaths of a number of wolves, but never one who wouldn’t have killed him. He doubted that he could walk away from this wounded female when she was so clearly in need.
“I don’t really know anything about healing, but I might be able to get you some fish or take you to find some water?” The male was searching desperately for something he could do. He he felt so useless. The hybrid was a wonderful fighter, but a fool when it came to helping others. He sat down beside the light blue wolf, “Or if you want, I can just stand guard while you rest.” At least he would be a good body guard. Tsun shrugged, “Up to you.”

Oomara’s panic had slowly drawn to somewhat of a close being around this wolf. He didn’t want to hurt her; she could already tell. At his offer she nodded and thought about what he could do. She remembered some healing tips she taught herself. Ivyweed was good for healing saltwater cuts; she thought she remembered seeing some lying along the shore that she dragged herself through.
”Um yeah there is… If yo could run down to the shore and get a strip or so of the seaweed there that’d be great.”
She panted, her tongue lolling. Her eyelids drooped but she refused to let them win over. Her vision once again started swirling blues, purples and silvers. The only thing that she could focus on was the male hybrid before her. He was kind; at least she thought so. Great form, very toned; his black pelt shimmering and his white stripe glowing in her eyes. She smiled; this was very soothing. He offered to guard her and she nodded eagerly.
”You know what, just forget the seaweed; the wounds will heal themselves. I would simply love it if you could be my bodyguard…”
She drew her paws closer to her body and curled her back into a more comfortable position. She did not realize she had begun to curl around him and her tail fell gently over his long scaled one. She never did fall asleep, but she did rest and listen to the world around her, waiting to see if something else was going to hurt her or help her. [/scrolly]

When Oomara suggested that he fetch some seaweed, Tsunami almost jumped at the opportunity. If he did that then he could be useful for something and get away from the injured female. However, when she changed her mind and relaxed, he had no choice but to sit there with her.
He gave a small sigh, and watched her rest for a moment. She had a pretty face, and she smelled of the sea. Tsun breathed in her scent then looked out onto the shore. It appeared unoccupied, if only for the moment. The hybrid wondered how long he would have to stand by this cael, but it wasn’t like he had anywhere else to be. He felt the soft touch of her tail on his and glanced back there quickly. Was that on purpose? Surely not, what wolf would think of romance when they’re injured? Still, the male couldn’t help but enjoy the contact.
"I guess I can get seaweed for you later.." He murmured quietly. 'Since when did I become a good Samaritan? Well at least it's a female..'

AN HOUR LATER
Mari blinked her eyes open in the sunlight; the sky was beginning to turn pink and purple from the setting sun and the glowing orb was starting to sink toward the horizon. She lifted her head and looked around; her copper orbs catching everything around her in good focus. Her initial shock had gone, and she was relaxed although her wounds stung dully. It didn't bother her as much as she thought, and she was surprised to still see the hybrid beside her. She blinked in his direction before talking.
"I'm surprised you're still her. Wouldn't you have anything else to do?"
She tilted her head slightly, numb to the pain in her back half. She stood up slumsily, and ended up falling into a sitting position with both forelegs braced. Come on, I should be used to this by now! She stood up again on slightly trembling legs and shook off her pelt. She stumbled slightly but regained her footing. Looking at the male that was beside here, she looked at him softly.
"Hey. Since you seem to have nothing to do... Do you want to go walkin?" She could only hope this male would go with her, so they could talk hopefully. She wanted to know more about him, but was alright if he didn't want to talk. She took two or three hesitant steps.

Tsunami huffed and then looked away from the female. “Of course I have better things to do than nurse you back to health, but what kind of wolf would I be if I had just left you?” Tsunami was feeling a bit insecure about the fact that he didn’t have a pack, and that he actually didn’t have anywhere else to be. Not to mention, he didn’t like being seen as “soft” or especially caring.
He stood up and provided his body for Oomara to lean on if she wished. Tsunami yawned loudly and shook his dark coat of sand, “You shouldn’t assume things,” He cautioned, his golden eyes flashing. “But sure I’ll walk with you.” The hybrid chuckled deviously, “Although I’m not so sure walking is your thing.” The black wolf poked fun at her inability to balance herself and then began traipsing slowly down the beach toward the water.
“What’d you say your name was, anyway?” He asked after a minute or two, looking back at the light blue female.

Oomara clearly noticed his sensitivity to be seen as soft and kindhearted and gentle. She shrugged and started walking on shaking paws. When he spoke the next thing, it sounded sharp and she flinched slightly. She looked at him apologetically.
"I-I'm sorry I didn't mean to make it an accusation I was just saying..." she stuttered at the words and her tongue ended up tripping over itself so she shut up. When he decided to make a snappy comment about her walking she lowered her gaze and looked away, huffing so she could hide the hurt his words dealt. He started off and se hesitantly caught up to walk beside him; far enough away so she didn't touch him. He seemed to like having others think he was somewhat cruel and she was slightly afraid of that. If he had a soft side he was clearly embarrassed to show it.
"I never did say my name. My birth Name is Oomara Icetail but I like to be called Mari. It just works better... And you? what about your name sire?" She sped up her pace to a trot but slowed down almost immediately from the pain that shot through her legs. Seeming weak to this wolf made her almost terrified. Would he hurt her like the others have done? Or maybe he was gentle Like Brightness and Crow are?... she didn't know but wasn't too keen on finding out unless he wanted to show that side to her. Tsunami enjoyed the fact that his words impacted the female so greatly. The lowering of her head was not lost on the male, and he smiled proudly to himself. It turned out that he didn’t mind having her as company as much as he thought he would. Tsunami usually had a low tolerance for weak or injured wolves, but he could see that Oomara recovered quickly from her ordeal. Not only that, but she was pretty submissive and her words put him at ease.
The hybrid strutted along the crashing shore, his long tail waving like a banner behind him. Once the cael caught up with him he closed the distance between them and then made sure to walk slightly in front of her. His eyes were on the horizon and the fast moving clouds above. Tsun didn’t really pay attention to what she said, but he did catch her name. There was an awkward pause, and then Tsunami realized she was finished speaking.
“I’m Tsunami.” He said with a sociable smile towards her. In truth, the hybrid had no idea if he received his name from his birth parents, or from the pack he grew up in. ‘Not like it matters..’
After covering a bit of distance along the beach, the male spoke again. “So what’s your story?” He asked, slowing down slightly in case she was getting tired. “Every wolf has one, and most females I’ve met love to talk, so please, tell me.” He wasn’t actually that interested, but he thought it was better to keep Oomara occupied with something.

The blue cael watched the male strut along with either confidence or dominance; she couldn’t tell. She avoided looking at him, because it mostly made her a little self-conscious and a little… how is it put… afraid, possibly? She wasn’t one much to befriend the tough dominant wolves, although she was always told she brings out the soft side in the majority of them. She did have a thing for the tough ones; they quickly brought her down to earth and she submitted to them because that was how she was. Not many wolves have the tolerance for such a daydreamer, but it’s another story when they’re willing to try to get her to maintain her reality.
She heard his name and thought quietly, “the name matches the wolf.” She slowed her pace just slightly to keep a few inches behind his lead. The female caught the smile and smiled back for a moment.
“So what’s your story?”
She paused; she had a story, but not one worth telling. Every time she had told someone, somehow they used it against her. She wasn’t willing to have that happen again, so she lied. Lowering her head she spoke quietly.
”I have no story. I was never meant to have a story. And I don’t intend on finishing the one I’m living.”
Oomara sighed; she didn’t have much to lose. Nothing but a couple of wolves they considered as her ‘friends’ and a dragon scale she stole from the carcass of a recently killed dragon. She was always told if you take a scale from the body of a dragon it will give you any sort of spiritual strength you need. And she needed it a lot. The female needed to find someone or somehow to make some rope or something that she could wrap onto her tail or use it as some sort of necklace. That way, she didn’t have to worry about someone stealing it.

Well that was surprising, didn't females enjoy talking about themselves? Maybe Oomara was different in that way. Nonetheless, what she did say caused Tsunami to roll his eyes. He hoped that the female didn't see his expression of annoyance, but even if she had, he didn't really care.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked, his head tilted toward her and his brows scrunched up skeptically. Was she one of those sad-sacks with a death wish? If she had been male, Tsunami would have gladly helped her out and delivered the death blow himself. The hybrid had finished the stories of many wolves, and only recently began to feel any guilt.
Maybe Oomara had gotten into trouble on purpose? Tsunami's tail thrashed furiously at the thought. Was that just a ploy to get attention, or was she actually suicidal? Either way, the male found it contemptible.
He was aware that his temper was ballooning out of control rapidly, and only because he assumed too much. However, Tsunami hardly cared and allowed his anger to grow. If the cael continued to confuse and anger the male, he might just end up leaving her to find something better to do.

[scrolly:h(421), w(340),sy] What do you think it’s supposed to mean? I have a story but not one worth telling! How about the fact that my own father has been trying to murder me since I was a pup? Being told that I never belonged anywhere except the ground I am I to die on.
The rude brute rolled his eyes with annoyance and she snorted at that. She paused her walk slightly then continued on. She shot a cold look at Tsunami with silver tears soaked into her faded blue pelt. Her eyes glistened with fear and sadness as well as loss of hope. Clearly this hybrid next to her was losing his temper. She shook her head with irritation at herself and almost stumbled, sending pain racing through her body in waves. She stopped, her balance at risk on her trembling legs. Giving up, the blue cael shot another look at Tsunami and decided to wander before she pissed off the male even more.
Her webbed paws could not get a grip on the sand and they sunk, they tripped her, and gave her pain. Her ears flattened and she directed her sore body away from the brute. If he wanted to help her he’d follow; if not he’d continue on his way and leave. She wandered clumsily onto a spot under a huge palm tree, where the ground was softened by fallen fronds. She laid down gently, careful to not hurt herself again. After getting comfortable she raised her head and let out a melodious song, cascading across the scale in flowing tunes. Her voice rose and fell in crescendos and the decrescendos, following the beat of a slow tempo. Normally this mesmerizing song would’ve calmed her and lured some wolves to her but she was sure it didn’t calm her. She didn’t care if any wolves came to her at the moment. She just wanted someone to care and would be there for her.
Apparently, that was no one.

"That sucks." He said rather unsympathetically, "But you're still alive, so no use crying about it.." Then she did start crying..Great. Just what he needed, a weepy she-wolf to take care of.
"I'll never understand females.." Tsunami grumbled to himself as Oomara walked off. Artellia was much easier to get along with; this cael was far too sensitive. Tsun was never very good at dealing with the emotions or needs of others, so this would certainly be a learning experience for him.
The male took a deep breath and then followed behind Mari. He felt guilty for being so insensitive, but wasn't about to admit it.
He let out a soft whine of concern when she fell and was about to offer to help her up, but it looked as though she had gotten comfortable. Not exactly sure what to do, Tsunami took a seat beside her on the palm leaves. The hybrid was glad that Oomara broke the silence with her lovely voice, and the cael blood in Tsunami took over almost immediately. His own howl joined hers in chorus; it was the only way he knew how to apologize.

[scrolly:h(421), w(340),sy] Oomara was aware of the masculine voice that joined hers, yet was not aware of how well they sounded together. She wanted to stop abruptly and glare at him, but she let her song finish first and a silence hung in the air. She hated these silences; tension builds too quickly between her and other wolves. She bowed her head, locking her copper gaze on the ground at her feet. She couldn’t think of anything to say to the brute, nor did she feel like saying anything anyways.
The cael lifted her head and looked out over the ocean to the horizon, aware of the presence beside her yet acting like there wasn’t one. Her eyes grew distant as she lifted herself into a daydream where she swam in the cool water of a freshwater lake with other shadow wolves around her. One shadow was lightly golden with what looked like wings sprouting from his shoulders and blocking out the sun’s rays, making him nothing but a silhouette with light blue eyes. Sadness filled her once again, and she pulled herself from that haze back into reality.
Mari sighed; this male wouldn’t ever really care what she felt. Maybe she should just do what she’s always done and lock it deep inside. She took a moment to gain a confident composure and straightened herself up. At least she could stand confident, even though she couldn’t lock her emotions in like she hoped.
Tsunami, would you rather have me turn and run so you don’t have another wolf to take care of, or have me stay and work something out between this friendship? Because I get the feeling you don’t really care at this point.
Mari’s voice was shaking, yet melancholy without any sort of positivity hinting any of her words. If he didn’t want to stay she would watch him leave gladly without calling him back. If he wanted to stay maybe she had some sort of hope left. But at this point…
She.just.didn’t.care.
