The days on the other hand, they were surely going to be the death of him; the Yagi wasn't built for boiling hot conditions. Every time the sun appeared again, he struggled to remind himself why he continued to, well cope certainly wasn't the right word, and yet he remained here all the same. It had to be a sign of insanity, surely no one sane would actually force themselves to suffer?
On the contrary he was indeed not planning on leaving just yet. It wasn't the most liveable of conditions really, far from it but Jelani had some method to his madness, or at least believed that he did. All other wolves would suffer in the same way as him whether down to the cold air at night or blistering heat of the day, were they mad enough to simply embrace both conditions as Jelani was? He hoped not. Things would be quieter then. So far so good, though he hadn't been here long at all, second day maybe? Oh dear, the heat must have gotten to his head already.
It was definitely easy to decide that the Yagi wasn't quite right in the head, and combined with his other typical routines or behavioural patterns many probably would come to the conclusion that there was something wrong with him. Perhaps there was, but he would never admit to it, not even within his own mind. He'd simply continue to plod along, just as he was at this very moment. He continued to force himself to take a step, and then another walking across the seemingly endless desert, the sands simply stretched on before him for as far as he could see.
Admittedly, if he turned back and walked the trail his journey had taken him on the past few days he would easily escape the torture of Hotali and return to what might be considered better civilisation, certainly for the Yagi anyway. He was far too stubborn though, he wouldn't turn back even if a growling stomach commanded him to find better hunting grounds. Yes he'd likely leave the desert eventually, but not any time soon, that would be giving in, deserting his plan.

Once again, a place mostly devoid of life. Yet on the wind carried a thought, and the thought was enough to entice Apocalypse to venture over the barren land. The heat did not bother him, he was not able to feel anything in the real realm. All he could sense were vague thoughts and ideas from the burrowing desert rodents. To the soaring vultures. All painted a picture of the landscape.
For once he was glad he was a myth. A shadow of the past. His smokey form sailed through the realm of thoughts and dreams, using the measly thoughts of the prey as stepping stones to follow the trail of his interest. The harbinger soon felt the presence of the yagi mind. His smoldering eyes narrowed in suspicion. Why was a yagi, or any large wolf, out in this arid land?
He came to a stop and circled around the mind, mimicking the vultures with a half-amused smirk. No one could see him, if anything he was just part of the wind, brushing against the body. Apocalypse poked his nose into the mind of the yagi. He cautiously let himself in, staying on the outskirts of the mind. It was not that he was nervous, he just did not want to be detected just yet.
He skimmed the surface thoughts of the yagi, he did not have enough influence in the mind to push much past those. His four tails wavered, one of them standing out like embers against ash. His form was fuzzy, out of focus. Once he decided on what to say though, it became more like a smokey specter. He pressed his own thoughts onto the yagi's Why are you in the desert....? his firm voice was like a whisper.
The words would only float on the air, as if the yagi were thinking them himself. Until Apocalypse got a stronger foot-hold, his voice would not get much past this.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] | [atrb=background,http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/qq254/Eldarwen5/Wonder%20Why/Tables/Mid.png]The harbinger was of course completely undetected by Jelani, the yagi wasn’t all that familiar with other species though anyway. He had always been around other yagi up until the point he left them all behind, and well he certainly hadn’t been the most sociable of creatures after that. His lack of knowledge was very much understandable though; how was he supposed to be aware of so many facts about a species he wasn’t and didn’t pay much attention to?
For that reason, the only possible answer for the thought that the Harbinger forced into his mind was simply that; a thought and it had to have been his own. It was however rather puzzling for Jelani though because of course he knew his reasons for being in the desert, in fact it was one he had gone through in his mind time and time again, completely sure that this was the right idea. Angrily he chose to ignore the stupidity of his mind, not that he actually recognised his brain as being a stupid thing, and he was simply annoyed at the present time. No answer rose for the harbinger, Jelani refused to question himself. Ironically enough though, if he was aware of the harbinger, chances are he probably would have asked himself the question anyway; it seemed there was a small flaw to his plan; not all wolves were solid and had to suffer the conditions, some were shadows like the harbinger around him now.
Jelani’s step was heavier now as he moved, his paws sinking a little deeper into the sands, the already large prints growing more so before the grains slid back into their original positions. To any normal wolf, the yagi probably would have held a look of determination, and urge to escape the desert though the harbinger, able to see his thoughts would certainly be able to see the truth behind his strengthened stride, especially after his disapproval to the harbinger’s question.
Normally the yagi would have forced himself into check, taken better care of his emotions, even annoyance. Of course his mind wasn’t quite so controllable, and it wouldn’t have mattered so much, but perhaps he would have made a stronger effort to simply ignore things had he realised he wasn’t quite as alone as he had anticipated. He certainly didn’t feel that it mattered at the moment though,, though it did of course, his mood would probably only encourage this particularly harbinger, whereas complete ignorance may have made him tire quicker. At least such an idea was an easy judgement to make had he been aware of anything about Apocalypse.

Oh, this would be fun. He stretched out his limbs and planted himself right in the middle of the minds-eye, not wanting to miss a thing. He settled in, now a little more secure in the sense that he was not completely rejected or ignored.
As if sitting on an empty, black box stage, he remained alone. A spot light was dimmed, he was trying to make his presence a little more known. Feeding off the yagi's self-motivation to keep on going. He tried speaking again, this time there was a little more substance to his voice, but still a whisper, It is not polite to ignore a question.
His words hung like a potent incense, seeping into the current thoughts. His interest was piqued, his curiosity made him persistent. Tell me your story. Commanding whispers, his will became stronger.
Apocalypse enjoyed exploring new minds, he liked knowing the reasons behind words, actions, or the lack of it all. These mortals, each as unique as a snowflake, despite being made of the same materials. He wondered if his offspring, relatives, acquaintances, ever set foot in this mind. Not like they would leave evidence.
He needed a strong mind, someone that could give him the influence he needed to become corporeal, tangible. Real.

He shook his head slightly, a concentrated and agitated expression forming upon his features as he tried to throw the thoughts away, tried to find some kind of answer. It wasn't like Jelani to accept any kind of weakness, mental or physical though this was certainly something he couldn't simply ignore; this wasn't normal. It wasn't like feeling lonely or afraid, or falling and hurting yourself this was... well it was just plain madness.
He wasn't about to own up to the fact he was crazy though, that truly wasn't characteristic of the yagi, although even accepting that something was up wasn't normal for him. It didn't mean to say that this was a huge leap in his personality, something that would change the wolf forever. In fact, Jelani was rather sure that he had already found a perfectly good answer for the strange thoughts.
"The heat." He spoke the words out loud to himself, as if hearing them in the air would make it all the more clear; it certainly made him certain in some strange way though; he couldn't trust his mind at that very moment, making some rather odd demands.
Of course admitting that the heat was getting to him didn't mean that the yagi was giving in to anything. Sure he'd noticed a small flaw in his plan, although with not quite the right assumption as to what it was, but he wasn't going to be weak and give in. He'd carry on. And that was just was Jelani did, there truly was determination in his step this time as he set off across the sands at a different pace. He wasn't running away from the desert, simply from his momentary madness.

He felt like he could establish himself a little better with the doubt circling the wolf's mind. He made himself comfortable, in his temporary rest stop.
Now his voice had more consistency, he mimicked the yagi, "The heat. It does funny things to the mind doesn't it?" He chuckled darkly, laying down in the middle of the minds eye, twitching his tails like a cat plotting death. "Maybe you should take a rest, let your mind regroup itself."
His maw split in a menacing grin, "Or keep doing what you are doing, the shrapnel is quite amusing to follow" The dark shadow of a wolf enjoyed seeing the bits of thought fly before his eyes. It kept the yagi interesting to him. Made him want to stick around to mess with his head. Or maybe even form a bond with.
He had only one steadfast vassal. He needed at least three more before he could fulfill his plan. He needed generals, strong willed individuals to force Apocalypse into existence.

They weren’t his, but then how could they be someone else’s? There was no one else around and his mind was his, only his. The yagi was truly rather uneducated on many topics, and harbingers was one of them. Apocalypse would have an awkward time trying to make Jelani see the truth at the moment, but perhaps that was a good thing in some ways, although not quite so much for the stubborn yagi of course. His poor mind would likely be a bit of a mess after the end of this event if the harbinger insisted upon the spot of fun option.
It was certainly in quite a mess already though, it would have been much easier on him had he heard of harbingers, had he known about the spectral wolves that couldn’t solidify without another’s help and then of course understood that at this particular moment, he would be said help.
Jelani chose not to speak back to the strange voice in his mind. If his head was going to be messed up for the moment, he wouldn’t argue with it would simply do what he had planned all along. Besides, where was there a place to rest out here, he might as well move across the desert rather than simply sit in the sunlight. He was bound to overheat no matter what he did.
He almost stopped as the voice continued however and found that it truly was an awkward thing to simply ignore. He’d try though, maybe it would simply go away if he did that, his mind would go back to its normal state; its empty state meaning no harbingers would be sat in the middle of it.

I'm not going anywhere just yet. Tell me your story." There was a slight growl at the end of his statement, he was trying to force his will. The stronger his own will, the more likely he could get a sturdy foothold. Really, it just seemed that this time he wanted to chat.
His four tails wavered in a thick mist, willing to be patient. He had always been patient. Which was part of why he still was in existence. it also helped him tolerate his female antagonist, Elpidia. Truth be told, she was the most consistent thing in his life, which was not saying much.
His mind wandered only momentarily, before coming back to the task at hand. "I am not your mind. That is all you need to know at current. Talk to me, it could be fun." He was poking at the yagi Trying a new angle of introductions. Boredom had that tendency....to force new ideas and games.

Answering would surely mean he was admitting to his madness, and he wasn't mad. Besides, he already knew his own story, no matter what craziness was going on in his mind there was no need for him to share it with himself. My this was a confusing subject, he truly would end up mad if he focussed upon it for too long.
There was a longer pause this time before the voice spoke again, and throughout that time the yagi thought perhaps he had won, reclaimed his sanity, though of course he had never lost it in the first place. There was just something, some crazy thought caused by the heat that was trying to make him lose it.
Of course though, the harbinger did speak to Jelani again, this time with some very confusing words. The yagi had already accepted that these weren't his thoughts, they weren't normal things for him to think of, and was happy enough to put it all down to the heat. He was imagining voices in his mind, rather than hallucinating some magical space before him.
Now however, this seemingly made up voice was actually telling Jelani that it wasn't his mind. Now in some ways he had known that, yet he thought it was at least a part of his mind, simply being affected by this dreaded heat. This was certainly a confusing matter.
"If you're not my mind, then what are you, and why are you there?" Why was he doing this, talking to it? It seemed that his other method of ignoring the thing wasn't working, but then this wasn't his thoughts, his emotions, he couldn't control them.

He was acknowledged. That was enough for him to relax a bit and get comfortable. He let the words float around him for a few seconds, relishing it. "What I am is not of consequence. Why am I here? Why not? It is interesting to see a yagi in the desert. You seem out of place. Thought I'd investigate."
He came out of the shadows of the mind and went more to the forefront of his thoughts, he was getting a little more access. He was like a specter, wisps of smoke and mist billowed around where his legs should have been. His red eyes were the most solid thing that was present.
He prodded the mind of the wolf, not trying to get too deep, he would rather have been told what was going on in his mind. He wanted to chat, "So why are you here? Where are you going?" He gazed out of the minds-eye, trying to see what things were like from this wolf's perspective.

Sure he had paid attention to the thing in his mind, finally given some kind of response in return to it though it didn't mean that he wanted it there in the first place.
"You're out of place yourself, you're in my mind." There was a slight emphasis on the last two words, clarifying who the space actually belonged too. The situation certainly wasn't so comfortable for himself, no matter how steady he was at responding to this thing in his head.
He could feel it moving around now, a strange slightly different sensation as the harbinger prodded around his mind. It didn't help Jelani want to welcome him any more, and in fact probably would have only provoked him to add further emphasis on the 'my mind' part of his earlier sentence had it not already left his mouth, and it didn't really make him want to continue a conversation with this thing.
"I am here because I want to be. I'm not going anywhere." He could have answered in a nicer manner, though the yagi still wasn't pleased with the harbinger being in his head and didn't feel like being too detailed.

He did not appreciate the attitude he was being given. In his world, he was a harmless observer that was just a bit curious. He snapped back at the yagi, " I reside in the realm of dream and thought, any mind is mine to explore."
His strong tone was not lost in his anger. He had always been forceful, that was part of the reason he fed off of nightmares rather than dreams. He had been known to dig up someones worse fear and use it against them to establish his presence. He wondered if he would have to go that far for this wolf.
"I am here, because I can be. And I am not going any where, so you might as well talk to me." His dark maw split into a fiery grin. He felt he was established enough to remain in this mind, even if there was a little resistance. Then, just to keep things flowing, he offered his name, "You may call me Apocalypse."

His mind was his, no matter what this strange thing felt about having the freedom to intrude upon anyone, it just so happened that the yagi had absolutely no idea of how he could possibly be rid of him. Ignorance hadn't worked, and it seemed that back-chat wasn't going to be a wise tactic either. He wasn't really all that agreeable, not with strangers and he never allowed himself to get close to anyone in the first place, perhaps though he would have to make a little exception for this thing though, if his mind was to ever be his own again. How long did he plan on sticking around? Maybe Jelani could bore him, his story certainly wasn't an interesting one.
No matter what his alteration in conversation was, Jelani wasn't about to apologise for his previous treatment to Apocalypse, he would be a little more civilised though, if the thing in his head was polite enough to give some kind of introduction, it was only natural to respond, unless of course you had something to hide. Could he actually hide anything in his head right now? He couldn't help but wonder how much of his thoughts Apocalypse might have noticed, surely he could learn some of them, sat up there in his head.
"Jelani." The yagi responded simply. His tone was a little calmer than before, matching his new state of mind to try be a little more civilised in conversation, even if such a thing wasn't a normal strategy. Apocalypse was in his head though, he wasn't a normal being.

He actually liked the hardheadedness. It was refreshing. Apocalypse glanced over his own shoulder at the singly glowing tail among the three other dark ones. Maybe he could convince this fellow to join him.
"Tell me, do you fancy power?" Why beat around the bush? If he wanted to become corporeal he had to enlist more generals for his cause. He already had Conquest...or Pestilence there were several interpretations. He wondered what this yagi would be goo at. He was strong just be default...War? He was wandering through a desert for days... Famine? He seemed to not have a final ends to meet at the moment... Death? It intrigued the harbinger. He wanted to use this wolf to help himself become known. Maybe he could explain himself a little better....or maybe he would wait for qeustions to be asked of him.

Well, more the downside was enough for him not to want to bother at all with such control. He preferred isolation, no one around to bother him, no one to have to care about. Things were easier that way.
"Not overly." He answered the question truthfully, there was no use in lying to the strange creature in his mind. He could make out a few shapes things now; a rough outline of a smoky substance clearer in places than others. He wasn't sure whether that actually made it easier to talk to Apocalypse or not; did he want to seem that he was talking to himself, or did he really want to talk to someone else?
"I prefer to be alone." The answer was still short, a force of habit more than the yagi being rude. To be blunt, Jelani wasn't talkative, to be so open was unnatural, in fact answering truthfully was a fairly large step on it's own. If he was to admit anything about this strange meeting though, it was that it was certainly a benefit in some ways; distracting him from the heat of the desert. It made it easier to continue, across the sands, no longer concentrating upon the endless distance, or the unbearable warmth.
